CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 74: THEY’RE ALL CRAZY_1

"I can’t take it anymore, I’m so hungry...!" In a corner of "Zhongyang Hospital" in Lin City, an overweight middle-aged woman screamed at a skinny man in front of her!

"We... have already, and you still want to!" The skinny man stared at her in horror, instantly understanding what the overweight woman intended to do.

"I’m too hungry, darling, look how much I’ve lost..." The woman looked at the man with lust in her eyes, causing him to shudder, as her face was far from appealing!

In their hospital ward stood a pile of skeletal remains, presumably of a human, given the context of their conversation!

"No more! We can’t keep doing this!" The man protested loudly against his hideously self-serving wife.

Before the post-apocalyptic outbreak, their nephew fell sick. They were visiting him with their granddaughter in the hospital when a black rain fell from the sky, resulting in countless flesh-eating zombies!

Nervously huddled in their nephew’s ward after witnessing the bloodshed outside, their life turned out to be nightmarish in a world devoid of food. The wife, accustomed to throwing tantrums when starved, had gone for over ten days with nothing but swallowed insects and rats to sustain her.

A few days prior, while the man was out scavenging for food, his wife butchered their sick, bedridden nephew with a surgical blade and ate his flesh!

He caught her in the act. He’d never forget her first words to him upon his return.

"You’re back. Come, eat! He was of no use alive, so I thought I’d just kill him and eat him instead. That’s our only chance of survival, darling, don’t you think?"

Out of desperation, he ate too. Now, the gruesome scene kept haunting him, and he swore never to resort to cannibalism even if he starved to death!

Now, his wife had started eyeing their barely one-year-old granddaughter, shattering his moral beliefs!

What in the world was happening?

Everyone’s gone mad!

Seeing his wife’s angry, hopeful eyes bearing down on him, he felt uncertain of his opposition to her. How long could they survive without food? The cockroaches and rats they had consumed earlier might have been infected, but hunger had triumphed over reasoning, impelling them to take that terrifying risk!

A few days ago, news of a safe zone echoed through Lin City. He wanted to take his wife and granddaughter there. The safe zone wasn’t far, but it meant fending off a horde of zombies-- their heads ominously visible through the ward’s window.

Neither had the courage to venture out, preferring to wither away in the hospital!

"No? Say that again! Look at our son, only compounding our burden. Would you rather starve than eat her?" On hearing her husband’s stern refusal, the wife’s already frayed temper flared.

The man glanced at his sleeping granddaughter, torn. His inner demons and angels warred within him:

’Don’t eat her.’

’Eat her!’

Finally, the devil won. He shuddered, grabbing his wife’s plump hand, "Alright, let’s do it. We can’t starve...what’s the harm in eating one problematic child? Let’s do it!"

Incredulous at her husband’s sudden reversal, she stuttered, "What about our son? What will we tell him?"

"He’ll understand. He’s a dutiful son, he won’t blame us for this."

With a few determination-filled words from the husband, the wife let out a manic shout of joy. Picking up the surgical blade, she advanced towards the sleeping infant, her face a terrifying reflection of her crazed excitement.

"Sorry, little one. Grandma is just too hungry," she cackled, thrusting the blade towards the baby’s neck, only to be interrupted by a chilling snarl.

"Heh, a group of scum. It’s you who should be eaten."

Before they could react, long bone spurs ruptured the ward’s door, skewering the unsuspecting wife and husband.

"What’s going on? Aaaaaah!" the man’s horrified screams echoed through the room just as the bone spur drilled into his eye, his body withering as if being drained of blood.

The woman fared no better, her blade-wielding hand caught in a bone spur, pulling her to the ground.

Bang!

The hospital door burst open with an overwhelming force to reveal Ah Fu with Tang Ye, cold murder looming in his eyes, standing behind him.

"Aaaah! Zombies, help! Someone, save me. I’ll let you eat my granddaughter...don’t...don’t come near me. Stay away!"

Tang Ye’s slow, threatening approach intensified the woman’s screams until a swift motion silenced her. Ah Fu’s sharp claw had disemboweled her, leaving a pool of blood on the ground.

With a triumphant roar, Ah Fu lunged for the unconscious woman’s neck!

Swish!

Whimpering cries came from the bed. Startled, Tang Ye threw the withered corpse out the door.

Ah Fu, abandoning the plump woman, made to attack the crying infant, only to be stopped by Tang Ye.

Faced with the wailing baby girl, Tang Ye found himself in a predicament. Was he expected to play the role of ado-doting dad now?
