CHAPTER 108: CHAPTER 108: (THIRD UPDATE, PLEASE VOTE)
Looking at that house that was just intact moments ago, now mostly buried under yellow earth, and the other part collapsed, this sudden change left the young couple standing there dumbfounded!
"Oh my heavens! My old mother is still inside!" A loud wail suddenly rang out as a man dropped the shovel he was carrying on his shoulder and rushed madly towards the house buried in the yellow earth.
Of the three houses down there, one was completely buried underneath, another was struck by a massive falling rock which broke the roof beam and caused the whole house to collapse from the center, and the young couple’s house was half-buried and half-collapsed.
The other houses a bit further away weren’t affected by this landslide.
The commotion was too loud, and soon many people, shocked, gathered around. Upon seeing the disastrous scene, many immediately and spontaneously joined in the rescue efforts.
The little baby must have been startled by the noise and burst into tears, waking up the young couple. The woman hurried forward to embrace her child, holding him tightly in her arms.
The man stepped forward to hold his wife and child, the three of them huddling together, still in shock, yet feeling fortunate to have survived.
The surrounding area soon became chaotic, with many men holding shovels to dig at the soil. The man who was frantically digging was pulled up by others, his hands blistered from the intense digging, and if he continued, it would ruin his hands.
As for his old mother, it’s feared she wouldn’t make it out alive.
Village Chief Xu Youcai, hurriedly throwing on some clothes, came rushing over; seeing this scene, his face turned pale. Kao Village hadn’t experienced a landslide in many years, primarily because there hadn’t been continuous rain for more than a month for a long time.
Beisitian, holding Zhuangzhuang, silently observed the scene. She had issued a warning the moment she noticed, but people’s vigilance was low; no one cared about what she shouted, and even if they heard, they simply didn’t believe her.
She could only do so much on her own and could only do what she could.
Beisitian didn’t rush to leave; if anyone inside could still be saved, maybe she could help, although the possibility was quite small.
The family completely buried was unlikely to have anyone survive, while the family she warned survived because of her. The other house hit by the big stone was the main focus for most villagers.
Unfortunately, inside were one adult and two children, none of whom survived.
People around were crying and sighing, but only the relatives of the victims continued digging desperately, unwilling to give up even though hope was shattered.
Beisitian quietly turned and left.
Because the villagers were in a hurry to save lives, they couldn’t pay attention to everything. Now that the people were dead, they naturally didn’t want to risk staying in a dangerous place, in case another landslide happened.
The next day, seeing no immediate danger of further landslides, Xu Youcai organized people to retrieve the bodies from the debris for burial, providing some closure to the families.
As for the house under the yellow soil, it was not to be dealt with for the time being. If the rain continued, there would still be danger here. Xu Youcai focused his efforts on the other families, who didn’t need much persuasion to pack up early and plan to stay temporarily with relatives.
Such a natural disaster hadn’t occurred in a long time, and now the entire Kao Village was on edge. Other villages also reported landslides, but fortunately, no casualties.
Mrs. Qin, at home, was talking to Luo Anguo about how the future would be for the family that lost one adult and two children.
As they were speaking, there was a noise at the front door, and Zhuangzhuang called out.
"I’ll go have a look." Luo Anping put down his pencil and ran out, soon bringing five people inside, four adults and one child.
Beisitian recognized three of the people; they were the family of three she saved that day.
As soon as the young couple saw Beisitian, they knelt down with a thud.
Beisitian quickly stood up to help them up, "What are you doing!"
They seemed to have something stuck in their throats and couldn’t speak for a moment. The two elders behind them bowed repeatedly to Beisitian.
"If it weren’t for you, their whole family would have been buried inside. We have only this one son. If it weren’t for you that day, our Lao family would have been without descendants!" the old man said, choking with emotion.
No matter when or where, being without descendants is a serious matter.
The old lady beside him, wiping her tears, said, "When I saw the scene that day, my legs went weak. This girl is our savior!"
The two elders, upon hearing about the landslide, almost couldn’t get out of bed, and were eventually helped to the landslide site, where their son’s family was buried!
Both elders fainted at the sight, later learning that out of the three families, only their son’s family of three was saved.
They continuously thanked the heavens!
Upon asking how it happened, they exchanged glances before recounting the events, and the elders, upon hearing it, immediately brought them over to thank Beisitian.
They said Beisitian was their savior, and they weren’t exaggerating. If it weren’t for Beisitian’s quick thinking, rushing out with their child in her arms, merely shouting wouldn’t have worked; she would have been buried too!
The elderly couple knew Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo, being from the same village, though they didn’t interact much before this. After this incident, they became quite friendly with Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo.
After the four adults expressed their immense gratitude, they left with their child, and Beisitian saw them to the door before turning back inside.
Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo had smiles on their faces, happy to have helped save that family and proud of Beisitian’s quick thinking and bravery.
However, Mrs. Qin still reminded her, saying that next time, unless she was absolutely sure, she shouldn’t recklessly rush in.
Beisitian felt warm inside, smiling as she agreed.
Just as she finished speaking, there was a sudden loud bang as the front door was slammed open. Beisitian looked out through the raised window, feeling startled—how could it be her?
The person was Liu Chunyu, panting as she ran over. Looking closely, her face was wet not just with sweat, but also with tears.
"Chunyu..." Beisitian had just lifted the curtain when Liu Chunyu ran inside.
Liu Chunyu grabbed Beisitian’s arm, her hand trembling, and with a sobbing voice said, "Little Tian’er... wuwu, save my mother! Save my mother!"
Beisitian was startled, "What exactly happened?"
"My mother was punctured by a nail, Uncle Yang says there’s no saving her. I know you can heal, I’m begging you, save my mother!"
Liu Chunyu seemed on the verge of a breakdown, and her words were incoherent. Beisitian couldn’t quite determine her mother’s condition from her words.
