CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 21: GETTING RICH WITH THE POCKET DIMENSION 3
"Are you really the city girl from the Jiang Family?"
The man sitting across was in his thirties, with an ordinary appearance, but something about his eyes made people uncomfortable.
Jiang Mingyue had seen all sorts of people in later years; nothing surprised her. This man was just a lecher.
Imagine, if he were just an ordinary villager, he wouldn’t cause much trouble, but with the authority of a village leader, he could easily exploit some, especially women. Whenever Jiang Mingyue thought of girls like her third sister potentially falling victim, she felt uneasy.
While observing the man, Jiang Mingyue heightened her spiritual power and immediately saw through him.
Sun Heqing: Thirty-one years old, married for ten years without any children. He often sneaks through the back gate to seduce the neighboring widow and has a couple of flings in the neighboring village. He’s never had any trouble, partially due to his caution and partially because his flings are consensual; this is Sun Heqing’s only redeeming quality.
Jiang Mingyue felt slightly less disgusted knowing he wasn’t forcing himself on others.
"Yes, the village head should’ve heard that my cousin’s family is splitting. I need to go to the city to call my uncle back. Could you write me an introduction letter, please?"
While the village head might have been intrigued by the city girl, he was also cautious. In all his years of experience, he knew not to reach for the impossible. If he did, it would not only cause trouble but might cost him his life; he’s always been a sensible man.
"An introduction letter? Sure, I’ll write it now. Tell your cousin to come and visit when he’s free."
Jiang Mingyue thought to herself, my cousin doesn’t even know you, this was clearly him hinting at wanting a bribe.
"Alright, I’ll relay the message. But my cousin is still bedridden; not sure if he can make it."
In the village, a death was considered bad luck.
With only a hundred or so households, the news of Jiang Ming’an’s accident the previous day had circulated several times; Sun Heqing naturally knew.
He never imagined it was so serious; otherwise, the old lady would’ve taken him to the hospital. Since he’s still at home, it implies no immediate danger. However, this seems opposite to what he thought; perhaps he’s in grave condition and going to the hospital would only waste money, so they didn’t go.
The village head felt a jolt of bad luck even touching the paper, wanting to quickly discard it. Consequently, Jiang Mingyue soon obtained the letter.
"Thank you, village head. I’ll come to you again if I need anything."
Sun Heqing almost wanted to broom her out; the initial astonishment had long since vanished into thin air.
He wished this girl had never visited.
Leaving the village office, Jiang Mingyue headed home, grabbed a basket from the yard, threw a cloth over it, strapped it to the bike, and prepared to go to town—only for her clothing to be tugged by something soft.
She looked down and, as expected, it was that kitten.
"Xiao Ran, is there something wrong with big brother?"
The little one shook his head.
"No? Then let me guess; do you want to go to town with me to find your dad?"
This time, the little one spoke up: "Brother said you won’t find him, so I should take you."
Jiang Mingyue: "..." I’ve lived in Nanxi City for eighteen years, and I don’t know where the machine factory is?
"Ha! You’re making that up. You just want to sneak along with me to town, right?"
Caught in a lie, the little one blushed, lowering his head as if attempting to burrow into the ground.
"Sigh! I’ll take you, but no more lying next time. Good kids need to be honest, and I only like honest kids. If something happens, tell sister directly, or no treats for you."
The little head tucked down suddenly perked up like a sunflower after rain.
Jiang Ran was so small, Jiang Mingyue worried he might get lost hanging onto the back, so she decided to put him on the front bar instead.
"It might be bumpy on your butt; when we get to the department store, I’ll buy you a soft cushion."
With Xiao Jiang Ran accompanying her, the time passed quickly, and soon they were in the city.
First, Jiang Mingyue went to see Uncle Ma. Luckily, there were no shift changes in this era. Uncle Ma was like a tree; you could visit him anytime.
"Grandpa Ma, I’m here to see you!"
"Oh! The little girl is here?" Uncle Ma looked her over several times, confirming she hadn’t lost weight, her spirits were better than in the city, so he felt half relieved.
"Yes." As she spoke, she discreetly took out a bowl of sliced pig’s head meat and sliced braised sausage from her space, using a big blue cloth cover.
"These cooked dishes are made by my mom. She insists I bring them for you since you’ve been taking care of me. Here, the dipping sauce is also ready. And there’s this." Jiang Mingyue took out two rabbits from the basket.
"They’re easy to raise, a male and a female. I heard they breed quickly, so soon you’ll have plenty of rabbits to eat. Oh, I brought an identical portion for my dad; could you please pass it to him later?"
"Girl..." Uncle Ma hesitated, glancing at a window on the second floor. "Your dad’s here too; aren’t you going to see him?"
"No." Jiang Mingyue waved her hand. Until Mr. Jiang understood some things, it was not appropriate for father and daughter to meet.
"Sigh!" Uncle Ma sighed, wanting to say something until he noticed Jiang Ran by Jiang Mingyue’s feet.
"Little girl, this is..."
"My little brother."
"He really resembles you."
"Grandpa Ma, I have things to do. I’ll visit you next time."
"Alright, alright, alright."
In the end, the old man pulled out an oily paper package from who knows where and stuffed it in her hand. After thinking, he also doled out a few candies for Xiao Jiang Ran.
"Thank you, Grandpa Ma."
This amused Uncle Ma, "Little girl, you’re clever, but your little brother is even more so."
Jiang Mingyue thought: She agrees.
After bidding farewell to Grandpa Ma, Jiang Mingyue walked down Mingkong Alley as per the original memory, crossing the road to reach the entrance of the machine factory.
But before she could ride out of the alley, three or four people gathered ahead.
From afar, urgent shouts were heard: "Manager Zhuang, Manager Zhuang..." Alongside the young voice were two elderly figures, fumbling to help a person on the ground.
"Don’t help!" When Jiang Mingyue saw the person’s face on the ground, she quickly shouted to stop them.
Perhaps it was her commanding presence, or maybe others were also helpless, but when she yelled, they all froze.
The young one thought they had encountered a doctor, only to see a young girl with yellow hair, becoming furious.
"If you don’t know, don’t cause trouble. Lives are at stake, you know."
Jiang Mingyue seemed as though she hadn’t heard him, parked the bike, quickly placed Xiao Jiang Ran down, casually let the bike drop, and squatted down to assess the situation.
After careful observation: fortunately, the person was still breathing.
She felt around the patient’s body, found no medicine, and then asked, "Where’s his medication? Who are you to him?"
"I... uh, what medication?"
Seeing no helpful response, Jiang Mingyue wasted no time, grabbing several things from the basket. She opened a bottle, took out two pills, pinched the person’s jaw, and fed them in.
