I Became the Mother of His Child
Chapter 299: Sending Off Father and Mother Song
CHAPTER 299: CHAPTER 299: SENDING OFF FATHER AND MOTHER SONG
Xu Xiuxiu knew too little about the space, and the effects of the pink fruit were not extraordinary, let alone possessing life-altering, bone-regenerating powers. It seemed to be just a fruit, but if one were to say it had no effects, that wouldn’t be true either—it was excellent at removing scars. That’s why she firmly believed that the pink fruit would be effective for Song Yuanhuan, otherwise, given the severity of his leg injury, he couldn’t possibly have woken up feeling completely revitalized.
Song Yuanhuan stayed calm and did not press Xu Xiuxiu further, "Hmm, I have always trusted you." He also never pried into the secrets she wanted to keep hidden.
"Mr. Song, trust me and you’ll be lucky, may Buddha bless you." Xu Xiuxiu winked playfully, adopting the air of a hermit.
Seeing this, Song Yuanhuan just smiled warmly at her, "Stop messing around," his tone gentle like that towards a beloved daughter, which instantly made Xu Xiuxiu feel over the moon.
Helplessly, with Song Yuanhuan’s doting nature ingrained in his bones, his unconditional trust, and allowing her to keep her little secrets, Xu Xiuxiu truly adored him.
"Oh." Puffing her cheeks, Xu Xiuxiu smirked and shrugged, her eyes challenging with a I’m-going-to-mess-with-you, what-can-you-do-about-it look.
Song Yuanhuan shook his head, letting her continue her mischief.
"I’m leaving now, will you be okay by yourself?" Xu Xiuxiu asked, seeing the jokes had been enough and Song Yuanhuan seemed more at ease. She then started packing, preparing to head to Soup City.
"Hmm, take care of yourself," Song Yuanhuan instructed.
"Okay." Xu Xiuxiu replied, picked up her bag, and left the hospital, heading straight for Soup City, where she swiftly handled a myriad of tasks large and small throughout the afternoon, only stopping as it got dark to head home.
Dinner was still lively. Xu Xiuxiu also briefed Father Song and Mrs. Song about Song Yuanhuan’s injury and some army arrangements, which greatly eased their worries.
The next morning, as soon as dawn broke, Xu Xiuxiu got up, joined Aunt Luo in making breakfast, steaming pork buns, and also put a big bone soup on the stove for Song Yuanhuan.
After Father Song and Mrs. Song had breakfast, Xu Xiuxiu and the others took them to the Z city train station. Fearing that Father Song and Mrs. Song might get lost, Xu Xiuxiu carefully guided them to their sleeper compartment seats.
"Dad, Mom, I bought sleeper tickets for you, which should be more comfortable than the hard seats. This bag contains big pork buns steamed early in the morning by Aunt Luo, and there are also two bottles of fruit preserves. Please take them with you, and if you get hungry on the way, have some to fill you up. Call us immediately when you reach the county so we can rest assured," Xu Xiuxiu said as she handed over the small package.
"You and your spending! Why buy sleeper tickets? Your dad and I are sturdy as ever, we don’t need sleeper tickets, a hard seat would have been just fine. Don’t waste money like this in the future, you hear?" Mrs. Song took the small package and placed it on the nearby sleeper, chiding Xu Xiuxiu verbally but her face was all smiles. She appreciated the gesture of her daughter-in-law buying sleeper tickets, but it was just her habit to fuss a bit, not really picking a fight.
"Alright, alright, your daughter-in-law bought you a soft-sleeper ticket, so just enjoy it! Why are you making such a fuss?" Father Song scolded Mrs. Song, displeased. This woman was getting too cocky.
Mrs. Song glared at Father Song, then took Xu Xiuxiu’s hand and instructed her worriedly, "Xiuxiu, Yuanyao and Yuanying are still quite naive. As their sister-in-law, help me keep an eye on them." After saying that, she glanced sharply at the Song siblings, "You two just behave and don’t cause any trouble for your sister-in-law, you hear?" Mrs. Song warned them with a threatening tone.
"Yes, Mom! Don’t you trust us?" Song Yuan Yao obediently nodded in agreement, and Song Yuanming followed suit, nodding earnestly.
"Good! That’s settled then. Xiuxiu, you mentioned yesterday that Yuanhuan’s injury had almost healed and that he would be going to the military academy for further studies. He might not have any income for the next two or three years. Mom knows you’re capable and busy with your career, but as a woman, you still have to prioritize your husband. Try to be more accommodating these coming days. It’ll all pass, you know?" Although Mrs. Song still couldn’t completely let go of her worries about Song Yuanhuan, knowing that her second son would be going to the military academy in Imperial City reassured her a bit. But she was afraid that Xu Xiuxiu might feel overwhelmed, so she offered a few comforting words.
"Mom, I understand. You and Dad just take care on the road; we’ll be fine," Xu Xiuxiu nodded.
"Okay, then get off the train quickly! The train is about to leave. Your father and I are here together; you’ve already escorted us to our seats, so we definitely won’t get lost," Mrs. Song, hearing the train announcement that it would leave in five minutes, urged Xu Xiuxiu and the others to get off the train.
"Mom, even so, once you and Dad get off the train and are home, you must give us a call," Xu Xiuxiu gestured for Song Yuan Yao and her brother and Xu Jingjing to get off the train first, and then reminded again. To Xu Xiuxiu, who tended to worry, she wouldn’t feel at peace until she knew they had arrived home safely, so she repeated her instructions.
"Alright, alright," Mrs. Song agreed promptly.
Xu Xiuxiu finally breathed a sigh of relief as she got off the train. By the train window, they exchanged a few more reminders while the train hadn’t yet started moving; soon after, it slowly left the station.
"Jingjing, I’ll go directly to Soup City with Yuanying later. You go to Sichuan Pavilion, but stop by home first and take your brother-in-law’s bone soup to the hospital. Make sure he drinks it all up," Xu Xiuxiu entrusted Jingjing with the task of delivering the bone soup.
"Okay." Xu Xiuxiu was well aware that Xu Xiuxiu insisted on her brother-in-law drinking the bone soup daily, although she could see he was nearly nauseated by it. Nevertheless, Jingjing would diligently complete any task set by Xu Xiuxiu.
Carrying the bone soup, Jingjing leisurely made her way to the hospital. Recently, various financial issues at the Sichuan Pavilion had been resolved, so the weight on her shoulders had significantly lessened. Suddenly, a tall man hurried past her.
"Wei Jiaqiang," Jingjing unexpectedly called out to Wei Jiaqiang, who was carrying a fruit basket.
"Oh! It’s Miss Xu from the Xu Family! Sorry, I was lost in thought just now and didn’t notice you," Wei Jiaqiang stopped in his tracks, turned around, and his eyes lit up when he saw her, scratching the back of his head awkwardly as he explained.
He always had a habit of scratching the back of his head when he was nervous or at a loss, and he almost never managed to drop this habit whenever he saw Jingjing.
"What are you doing at the hospital? Are you here to visit a friend or for yourself?" Jingjing couldn’t quite figure out why she had such a deep impression of Wei Jiaqiang or even why she had spontaneously called out to him.
