I Became the Mother of His Child
Chapter 465: What Happened?
CHAPTER 465: CHAPTER 465: WHAT HAPPENED?
Xu Xiuxiu and Song Yuanhuan were leisurely sitting in the living room watching TV just a moment ago, when, with a turn of their heads, they saw this scene—Xu Xiuxiu’s heart stopped for several seconds. "What happened, Little Moon?" she asked in astonishment, her entire being filled with anxiety.
"Mommy, you must save Little White, Little White got hit by a car, there’s so much blood, it’s in so much pain, it doesn’t have any strength left, wah, Mommy I’m so scared, Little White is so upset..." Little Moon’s face was covered in tears and, having gotten blood from Little White on her, her fair and tender cheeks were smeared with dirt and blood red. She held Little White in her arms and shakily ran toward Xu Xiuxiu.
"There, there, Chen Hao, don’t cry. Hand Little White over to Mommy, let Mommy take a look at Little White, okay?" Xu Xiuxiu tried to steady her racing heart and then, lowering her voice, gingerly reached out to take Little White’s body.
"Wu wu... then Mommy, Little White will be in a lot of pain, can you be gentle, okay?" Little Moon said with a sob, her tearful eyes fixated on Little White, looking extremely fearful that Little White would feel pain.
"Okay!" Seeing Little Moon’s worried expression, Xu Xiuxiu felt both frustrated and amused. This child didn’t know who else to turn to but her, yet still couldn’t quite trust her. Really now, "Little Moon, did you get hurt?" she asked. Even though seeing Little White hurt made Xu Xiuxiu very anxious, Little Moon was covered in blood and cried so pitifully, that Xu Xiuxiu couldn’t help but worry. Maybe the child also got hurt!
With that thought, Xu Xiuxiu instantly regretted letting her guard down, thinking that since they were just downstairs at home and that Little Huang was exceptionally smart, she had agreed to let Little Moon take the dog family out for a walk. It was a good thing that Little White was the one who had the accident, serving as a wake-up call for her. Otherwise, if something had happened to Little Moon, Xu Xiuxiu might have nearly been driven to beat herself up out of guilt.
"Mommy, Little Moon is okay, it’s just that the uncle riding the vehicle hit Little White and then ran away, wah! Bad person." Little Moon shook her head as she explained the cause of Little White’s injury, her expression one of gritted teeth.
Xu Xiuxiu felt some anger at the person who had hit Little White, but she also breathed a sigh of relief that, fortunately, Little Moon was unhurt. It was a blessing in an unfortunate situation.
"Woof, woof..." Carefully transferring Little White’s body from Little Moon’s arms into her own, Xu Xiuxiu examined thoroughly and noticed that Little White’s hind legs were somewhat twisted, clearly due to being run over by the vehicle. "Yuanhuan, looks like we need to take Little White to the hospital," she said. These weren’t ordinary injuries; the bones in both hind legs were clearly displaced and definitely needed hospital treatment. If they tried to handle it themselves at home, it would surely result in permanent damage.
"Mm." Song Yuanhuan, too, saw the protruding bones and nodded solemnly and seriously.
The little dog, Little Huang, was a stray picked up by their eldest son from outside, but Song Yuanhuan, being a soldier, also had a deep affection for military dogs and naturally liked Little Huang, who was sensitive to human nature. Despite his usual stern facade, he would occasionally bring treats for Little Huang, and he liked the three puppies Little Huang had given birth to as well. Especially Little Xiao Huang, Little White, Little Black—they too obviously had human-like intelligence. Every time he saw his youngest son calling out to the dog family to go out for a walk, Song Yuanhuan felt a sense of fantasy.
These dogs must surely be enchanted, right? Looking at them, it seemed they had enough aptitude to be trained as sniffer dogs or search and rescue dogs for the military!
"I’ll go get the car to take it to the hospital. You stay here with the kids," Song Yuanhuan turned around to fetch the car keys from home.
"Okay." Xu Xiuxiu had no objections, trusting that Song Yuanhuan would take good care of Little White. "Drive carefully on the road, or perhaps I should come with you? Little White looks like it needs someone to hold it." Although leaving several children at home wasn’t ideal, Song Chengguang and Shi Yu were sensible now, and leaving them alone at home seemed alright. Children had to grow up. If she couldn’t feel assured with them staying at home, then she would worry whenever the kids went to school. With three or four children, how could she manage all that worrying.
"Mama, can I hold Little White?" Little Moon, sobbing, reached out and tugged at Xu Xiuxiu’s rather thin clothes, and stammered out a request. All the while, her eyes glued to Little White, unwilling to move them in the slightest.
"Let Little Moon come with me then!" Song Yuanhuan, seeing this, didn’t strongly refuse. Instead, he bent down to be eye-to-eye with Little Moon and asked patiently, "Can you hold the injured Little White carefully so it won’t get hurt again, right?"
"Mm!" Little Moon, trying hard to calm her hiccupping sobs, nodded firmly: "Little Moon will definitely take good care of Little White."
"That’s good." Song Yuanhuan rose to his feet upon hearing this, looking at Xu Xiuxiu with an expression that said your son can take good care of Little White, rest assured.
"Okay, be careful on the road then," Xu Xiuxiu said and then saw Song Yuanhuan carefully pick up Little White, taking Little Moon, covered in bloodstains, out the door. Little Huang, with her two little puppies, also prepared to follow, bouncing along. Xu Xiuxiu began to speak to stop them, but then considering that Little Huang, the mother, must also be anxious, she swallowed her words.
But Little Huang was human-like in her concern, after all, having been quite worried when Little White got injured. She was ready to follow her owner and young master out, yet she didn’t forget to leave the two little ones at home under surveillance.
Originally, Little Xiao Huang and Little Black also wanted to follow, barking, but Little Huang stopped them with a sharp look and a call. In the next moment, Little Huang darted out the door, catching up with Song Yuanhuan and Little Moon, the father and son.
"Woof woof..." Little Xiao Huang and Little Black, left behind at home, seemed a bit aggrieved and called out with their milky voices, then they waddly went to find Little Baby to snuggle into.
"Little Xiao Huang, Little Black, don’t be scared! Daddy and big brother will make sure nothing happens to Little White," Little Baby, with a cute bun hairstyle, reached out to soothe Little Xiao Huang and Little Black: "Right, Mama?" Not completely sure, she then looked up at Xu Xiuxiu.
Xu Xiuxiu silently nodded, then went into the room to change her clothes, taking off the blood-stained garment she had on. She was getting ready to clean up the bloodstains in the living room when she saw Song Chengguang and Shi Yu had already taken care of it with mops.
"Cheng Guang and Shi Yu are really great," Xu Xiuxiu praised.
"Auntie, the teacher said we should respect our parents and help out at home with things we can do. This is what we primary school students should do," Shi Yu said with a beaming smile, patting his chest.
Song Cheng Guang, meanwhile, stood by watching Shi Yu curry favor with a look of barely veiled disdain.
Seeing this, Xu Xiuxiu laughed and teased a few more remarks, then she and the children began to patiently wait for Song Yuanhuan and Little Moon’s return.
