CHAPTER 32: CHAPTER 32: MELODRAMATIC INCIDENT
"This is the spot!"
As Xia Liang surveyed his surroundings, he nodded with satisfaction. Although he had climbed for half an hour, he didn’t feel tired at all. On his way up the mountain, he had already activated the Field of Wind and was now enveloped in a shimmering shield.
As Xia Liang circulated the energy within him, a visible green barrier began to spread out, slowly expanding from his position. Frowning at its speed, he increased the infusion of Soul Power. The barrier’s expansion quickened significantly, forming a domain with a hundred-meter diameter in just a few seconds.
Green specks floated in the air within this domain, where a rich concentration of the wind element swirled around him, and fierce gales blew. Xia Liang touched the winds, feeling an extraordinary affinity with them.
"It’s no surprise that it’s an SSS Level superpower. It really is overpowered!" Xia Liang muttered to himself.
Unfolding this domain hadn’t consumed much of his Spiritual Power, and it required very little to maintain. The quarter of his energy he had spent was purely to accelerate its formation. Otherwise, the domain would have formed on its own by absorbing the wind element from the world around him. With a mere trace of his Spiritual Power as a guide, it could form by itself; the only difference was the speed.
What’s more, by continuing to infuse Spiritual Power, its range could further expand. However, any further expansion would draw directly from his body’s reserves of Spiritual Power. With his current level of Soul Power, he could expand it by an additional twenty meters at most. That was his limit.
At first glance, this superpower seemed to be nothing more than a simple Field of Wind with no special enhancements. But that wasn’t the case at all.
Within the domain, Xia Liang could manipulate the wind element at will, which meant he could use it for offense.
This realization spurred him into action. Inside his domain, Xia Liang felt like a god, able to control everything. With a mere thought, the wind element gathered before him, forming a meter-long Wind Blade. With a point of his finger, a green afterimage streaked through the air, and a waist-thick tree in the distance crashed to the ground.
Seeing the power of the Wind Blade, Xia Liang was ecstatic. After all, this was his first time possessing superhuman strength, and its might was self-evident. Moreover, the wind element in the entire domain was enough for him to launch a hundred more attacks just like that one, all without expending a single shred of his own Spiritual Power.
That was right. He wasn’t using his own Spiritual Power; the attacks were formed purely from the wind element within the domain. The gathering speed was slow, but only because he was unpracticed. With more training, it wouldn’t take so long. In fact, by infusing the attacks with more Spiritual Energy, they could even become instantaneous.
As a transmigrator, he’d be far too basic if all he could do was form Wind Blades.
As an avid reader of various novels, he naturally knew how to invent skills. Compressing the wind element into a wind needle that would explode violently upon impact. Gathering the wind element to form a small tornado that could both attack enemies and absorb their attacks. Applying the wind element to run faster with the wind, and conversely, using it to hinder an enemy’s advance. Using the wind element to conjure wings, allowing him to fly within his domain. Transforming the wind element into a green tiger that roared as it charged forward.
There was no "coolest," only "cooler."
As if addicted to creating techniques, Xia Liang exhausted the wind element in the area. Without hesitation, he moved to an empty clearing and began to form the Field of Fire.
Compared to the Field of Wind, Xia Liang didn’t dare make the Field of Fire as large. After all, fire wasn’t like wind—if he set the whole mountain ablaze, that would be a serious problem.
Just as with the Field of Wind, a red barrier expanded to envelop a five-meter radius around him. The entire domain filled with a massive amount of the fire element, instantly setting the trees and grass within it ablaze.
Seeing this, Xia Liang quickly gathered the fire element and dismissed the Field of Fire. Once the domain was gone, a five-meter radius around him had been scorched black.
By the time he finished testing the other two domains, the sky had grown completely dark. His excitement finally fading, Xia Liang remembered it was time to go home.
Having collected himself, Xia Liang headed down the mountain. He wasn’t far from the foot when he heard a panicked voice from a distance.
"What do you want? Why did you bring me here? You... you... don’t come any closer!"
"Huh? What?"
Xia Liang, who was descending the mountain, suddenly stopped. He touched his nose, his expression turning strange.
"Heh heh! Tough luck, girl, running into me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a feast; I’m going to really enjoy myself today."
Then, another, more vicious voice sounded.
Seriously? I run into something like this?
From their conversation, Xia Liang could guess what was happening. It was highly unlikely a couple would be so bored they’d come to this desolate wilderness in the middle of the night to role-play. He sighed and shrugged.
"Still, since I’ve stumbled upon this, I can’t just ignore it. After all, I’m a good, patriotic youth," he said to himself as he started walking toward the source of the voices.
In the distance, a young girl had fallen to the ground, desperately shuffling backward.
"Help! Is anybody there? There’s a pervert!"
In front of her was a man with a scar on his face, looking incredibly fierce.
"Heh heh! I didn’t expect to be so lucky today, to find such a top-notch girl. It seems taking the risk to grab you was worth it after all."
The man advanced, his eyes gleaming as he stared at her. He gulped, his gaze fixed on her curvaceous figure.
As Xia Liang drew closer, the moonlight revealed the girl on the ground. Her delicate face was contorted with panic and fear.
It’s her? Xia Liang thought, a name escaping his lips instinctively.
"Qingxue?"
"Hmm?"
Hearing her name, Qingxue instinctively looked over. When she saw Xia Liang, she cried out with excitement.
"Xia Liang!"
The scene grew somewhat eerie. For a moment, the fierce-faced man was too stunned to react. He certainly hadn’t expected a kid to suddenly appear in this desolate, wild place so late at night.
Was this kid following me? Did he call the police? I can’t stay here. Thinking this, the man squinted at Xia Liang and spoke in a hostile tone.
"Kid, I advise you not to meddle. Go back the way you came. Otherwise, you’ll regret it!"
His fierce appearance, combined with the centipede-like scar on his face, made him look as if he were about to devour someone whole.
