I Bought The Exiled King
Unchained 139

A group of people had entered the royal hall, a convoy of sorts that seemed angry. And in front of them was standing Maelyn.
She was wearing a long silky gown, but she looked utterly bedraggled. There were bags under her eyes and her hair could use a brush.
Martin’s smile fell upon seeing her, and he immediately went to quiet her down.
“Maelyn what are you doing here?” He asked and pretended to care about her, but she aggressively shook his had off her shoulder and retorted.
“That is what I wish to ask you, prince Martin of Elorin.” She spat viciously, and Martin’s eyes bore into her.
Lord Bastian took a step forward and tried to assuage her.
“I believe Lady Maelyn is not doing good, health wise. We should probably get her checked by the royal healer.”
But she pointed her hand at that man and shook it threateningly.
“Just like you are looking after King Aecidus. Spare me your games, you lot. I know exactly what is going on here and I am going to expose you, Martin.”
She was seething in rage and Martin looked around, the first sign of fear crossing his face.
Another man who was standing behind her stepped forward to pat her shoulder reassuringly.
She looked iat /ihim with tears threatening to leak out of her eyes.
“I told you he was not going to honor his word, didn’t I father yet you wouldn’t believe me. Here is your proof.”
She pointed her finger at Martin and continued to cry out loudly.
“He promised me all the riches and glory if I helped him keep his father sick by administering all the wrong medicines. And then threw me away once I was of no use”
Martin glowered at her.
“How dare you use me of trying to kill my own father? I haven’t been able to eat or sleep properly ever since his health started to decline!”
However, her father, who was supposedly a neighboring King tried to calm them both down.
“Maelyn gets a little emotional and then says things she shouldn’t. I wasn’t aware of King idus declining health and wanted to pay him a visit.”

“Of course, please doe. Had I known you were going to pay a visit in person, I would have arranged for a royal chariot to escort you here.”
He said, looking at the crowd to ensure he still had a chance of keeping his mask on that Maelyn had tried to pull apart.
“Father, don’t fall for his lies….” Maelyn began but her father held both her shoulders and said something to her softly.
He was probably ensuring she would not try to cause a scene. She still looked displeased and disgruntled but she finally gave him a weak nod.
The others members of the convoy exchanged nces with each other but stood watching without uttering a word.
Martin extended his hand and bowed to the King to pay his respects.
“I am not quite pleased with the circumstances leading to our meeting but, I am d to have you by my side, King Beric of Amaldine.”
Martin then pped his hands to get the servants to bring refreshments for the King. Meanwhile, Maelyn kept shooting murderous nces at Martin.
“Thank you for your kind hospitality, Prince Martin.”
They both approached the King’s bed as they conversed with each other politely. Nina bowed to Martin who gave her a side nce and she nodded before going away to get something.
“What is the reason for the King’s sudden illness? What do the royal healers say?” King Beric enquired.
King Aecidusy on the bed looking thinner than a stick. His cheeks had sunk so hollow that they were just limp skin stretched over bones.
“They have no idea what is causing this. However, they are trying their best.”
Martin said, his eyes getting moist as he raised his hand to ce it on hsi father’s.
“You should have informed us about this earlier. Our kingdom would have been more than happy to lend you our healers. They are known for their healing prowess even beyond the ocean.”
Martin looked like somebody had just punched him in the gut because he was absolutely bewildered with the suggestion.
He tried hard to think of a reply and only managed to smile weakly.
“Oh, I ddin’t want to seek favors from you, King Beric.”

“There is still time, father. We can help King Aecidus regain his health. We can provide him the best possible treatment as a goodwill gesture to strengthen the bonds of our two kingdoms.”
Then she looked at Martin and said. “Right betrothed?”
Martin looked visibly confused and I was truly impressed at how things were ying out. I was happy to get the front seat to this shit show.
Though in the back of my mind, I hoped they would just kill each other quickly so I could go find Killian.
Martin loosened the stiff cor of his expensive robe, cape, whatever he was wearing and looked at her.
“Maelyn, I am not sure we can afford the treatment. The royal coffers have already been drained significantly since the King’s health declined.”
I couldn’t help but stay silent and blurted out.
“Oh on what exactly? Because I have been to your father’s room twice and nowhere did I see healers from other regions brought in. In fact, our best bet, the Crone, Elder Amara are nowhere to be seen while you gloated to me about how you would turn me into your ve or else get the people I love hurt.”
That mask Martin had put on had toe down. I no longer wanted to just be a curious bystander.
The crowd began to whisper and murmur amongst each other once again as Martin shot nces at his men in the court who scampered to keep the rumors from turning into a wildfire.
“Just because I gave you refuge instead of throwing you in the dungeons does not mean you speak to me like that, witch.”
He finally took out some of his frustration on me. But that did not make me angry. Instead, a slow smile appeared on my lips.
I had to ensure he fell into his own trap and revealed what a useless bastard he was. I wasn’t going to let him walk away from this.
