Chapter 45 – “Every Time I See Wanqing’s Boyfriend, I Get a Strange Impulse”

The roommates immediately started talking:

“Ye Fei, where the heck did you disappear to? We called you like a million times. Either your phone was busy, unreachable, or had no signal.”

“Come on, tell us the truth—were you sneaking around behind Wanqing’s back? That’s messed up, man.”

“Pfft, you think too much. Our Ye Fei isn’t like that. If he was going to sneak off for something fun, wouldn’t he bring us along? Am I right, haha.”

Ye Fei let out a sigh. Why did I end up with this gang of unreliable idiots?

He pouted, then said, “Alright, enough jokes. Just tell me what you want already.”

Guo Hua spoke up first: “Actually, it’s not us. Wanqing was trying to reach you and couldn’t get through. So she called us to ask if we knew where you were.”

“Maybe give her a call back? So she doesn’t worry.”

Ye Fei glanced at his phone. Sure enough, Wanqing had sent tons of WeChat messages and made several missed calls.

“No need. She’s probably in the dorm or the library. I’ll just go find her.”

With that, Ye Fei left the dorm.

Back inside, his roommates chatted:

“Man, having a girlfriend is life. Someone is always looking for you, twenty-four seven. Unlike us—we could drop dead in here and no one would even notice.”

“Bro, you sound like a depressed NetEase poet again.”

“Being born human, I truly apologize.”

Ye Fei first stopped by the girls’ dorm and asked Wanqing’s roommates.

“Ye Fei, looking for Wanqing? She should be in the library right now. Try the second floor.”

“Got it. Thanks, I’ll go check.”

As he walked off, a few fangirl roommates whispered to each other:

“Wanqing’s boyfriend is seriously

hot. Every time I see him from behind, I get this weird impulse.”

“Pfft—girl, you’re catching spring fever.”

“If Wanqing heard that, wouldn’t she flip out on you?”

Two minutes later, Ye Fei arrived at Qingteng University’s library. He went straight to the second floor and spotted Zheng Wanqing in a corner.

She was seated with an open book in front of her but seemed distracted. Instead of reading, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

Right then, Ye Fei’s phone started ringing.

Wanqing turned her head toward him.

“Hubby! Where have you been? I couldn’t find you all day! I was so worried.”

Ye Fei took a seat beside her and grinned: “What? It’s only been half a day. You already missed me that much?”

Wanqing blushed. “Don’t flatter yourself. I was just… curious, that’s all.”

Ye Fei laughed. “Then why are you blushing?”

“Blushing? Me?” She touched her flushed cheeks and quickly denied it. “I am not! Quit staring at me.”

“Hahaha!”

His teasing only made her more embarrassed. Her ears even turned red.

“Alright, alright—I’ll stop teasing. What did you want to talk about?”

“So, I recently started a company. It’s still in the early stages, and today I went to check things out.”

“I see.” Wanqing didn’t pry further about the company.

“Anyway, my parents want to have dinner with you sometime. When would you be free?”

Ye Fei smiled. “Anytime works.”

“How about tonight? No time like the present. Can we do it today?”

“Of course.” Ye Fei patted her head lovingly. “So this means… you’re officially introducing me to your parents?”

“Mm…” Wanqing nodded shyly, her face still red.

Just then, her phone rang—it was a call from her older sister, Zheng Wanyu.

“Hold on, I need to take this.”

She picked up. “Hey, sis—what’s up?”

On the other end, Wanyu asked, “Wanqing, is Ye Fei coming tonight? Did you talk to him yet?”

“Yeah, sis. I told him, and he’s free tonight. We’ll come over around 8 to have dinner.”

Wanyu’s tone was steady: “Good. Try to be early, don’t be late. Dad’s in a good mood today. Tell Ye Fei to make a good impression.”

Wanqing smiled. “Thanks, sis.”

“We’re family. Don’t be so formal.”
