CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 25: A FOREBODING SENSE OF EXHAUSTION (PART 3)
Even though the girl didn’t seem to care much and didn’t show any intention to pursue the matter, just as she was easygoing before... However, embarrassment is never about others but the feeling one can’t bear themselves.
......
The carriage stopped on a flat terrain within the riverside forest, under the dim glow of the lanterns hanging from the carriage. The surroundings were silent, with only the murmur of the river.
Fujikichiro was busy feeding and watering the tired horses, while the black-haired girl stood by the carriage, performing her duty of lookout. Although she seemed distracted, gazing dazedly at the brilliant starry sky, any movement within the area couldn’t escape her perception.
Perhaps after a whole day on the road, encountering several attacks by Demon Ghosts, Fujikichiro also knew that when the girl appeared to be in a daze, it was actually the safest moment, meaning there was no danger around, so he tended to his two horses without a worry.
—This is also the legacy of Thirteen Sakura Village. Although not any good horses, they are quite a fortune, and bringing them back to Mino would earn a profit.
By the riverbank, Gu Mo was filling a leather water pouch with water. He volunteered for this task because it was the only thing he could help with, not understanding much else; he also wanted to take the opportunity to check his system interface.
That was his greatest confidence in this not-so-unfamiliar, yet particularly magical world, and only by checking could he feel at ease.
The character panel showed no changes, currently still at a total Level 4, with four distributable attribute points—one allocated to Power, three to Constitution... Hmm, at least he wouldn’t be a weakling unable to truss a chicken in this war-torn world.
At least his physical condition should be much better than most soldiers or farmers who barely have enough to eat or wear, with unbalanced nutrition.
But this was still far from enough...
He took a breath and hesitated for a moment before opening his equipment page, finding it still empty, without any equipment recognized by the system... Does this mean his Guardian Spirit isn’t on this page?
With a hint of worry, he sensed a reassuring presence right beside him and then opened the skills page, finally letting out a breath.
As expected, there it was, on the skills page. At the very top of the silhouette of a human figure, a new groove appeared, containing a gleaming badge with the image of a fiery red fox totem.
But it did not directly merge with the previous ten skill slots; instead, an additional groove was added on top to display it. Does this indicate that his golden finger added an extra subsystem for the Guardian Spirit?
With this thought, he opened the interface of his Guardian Spirit.
A page like an illustrated book appeared, showing a three-dimensional image of a majestic fiery red fox on the left, with nine tails swaying gently, surrounded by floating Fox Fire, exuding authority, accompanied by a textual description—
"The Nine-tailed is a fox Guardian Spirit with nine tails; it’s said that each tail harbors immense Demonic Power, able to manipulate Flame and possesses Divine Power that can bewilder others. After the appearance of the Nine-tailed, a period of change in the world is imminent."
Gu Mo didn’t pay much attention and turned to look at the right page.
"Leveling up."
"Equipment."
"Skills."
"Appearance."
Hmm, why does this look a bit familiar? He tugged at the corner of his mouth and opened that skills page, seeing a silhouette of a fox sitting poised, with nine tails fanning out like a peacock’s tail, each matching a round groove.
Gu Mo suddenly felt a twinge in his liver. Shouldn’t Guardian Spirits be fully formed? Why does his seem to need nurturing from scratch? Does he have to level it up? Grind for equipment and skills?
