CHAPTER 26: WYVERNS CHARGE

Alalric stood at the center of the chaos, his blade dripping with dark, thick, red dragon blood. Around him, wyrms and drakes lay around scattered like broken toys.

His breathing was controlled and steady despite everything that was happening at the moment.

"Adrian!" Alaric’s voice cut through the maelstrom of battle. "How are we holding up?!"

Adrian drove his greatsword into the skull of a charging drake, the impact sending tremors through the ground.

"We’ve killed maybe two hundred of these bastards, my lord!" He yanked his weapon free, and the crimson tide spattered across his black armor.

He planted his feet and slammed his gauntlet into the muddy ground. "Stone Wall!"

The ground rumbled and groaned as large slabs of rock erupted from the ground that stretched thirty meters wide.

The stone was jagged and each slab that rose up stood 10 meters tall. A group of drakes slammed into the barrier at full force. The sound echoed across the field like a bolt of thunder.

"Impressive as always Adrian," Cassius called out as his crimson wyvern landed beside him. "I’ll double your salary if you work for me!"

Haha!

Adrian laughed. "You jest my lord. I only follow Alaric."

Cassius clicked his tongue in frustration. "Look up my friend!" Cassius shouted as he pointed upwards.

All three men raised their heads to the storm darkened sky.

What they saw made even Alaric’s expression darken. Hundreds of winged shadows moved through the clouds.

Each one was the size of a small house. Their wingspan casted large shadows across the battlefield.

"By the gods!" Adrian let out a deep sigh before continuing. "There must be at least a thousand more of them!"

Cassius’s wyvern let out a low growl. Even she recognized the predicament they found themselves in.

Alaric rubbed his forehead. "Typhon sent this many dragons. He must really feel threatened by my son." Alaric began gathering dark mana around his blade.

The first wave of wyverns dove from the sky like falling stars. They screeched in unison, the earth wall began to shake from the sound. Some soldiers dropped their weapons to cover their ears.

One massive wyvern landed next to the men, creating a crater that was six meters wide. Its head was bigger than a truck.

As it opened its mouth a soldier dropped his weapons as he started at the three rows of teeth in its mouth.

"Spread out!" Adrian shouted. "Don’t cluster together!"

Roar!!!

But, before the beast could strike, Cassius raised his hand toward the sky. Golden Light began to pool in his palm growing brighter and more intense with each passing second.

"Solar Lance!"

A concentrated beam of pure light erupted from his hand, piercing through the wyverns chest like a freshly sharpened knife through paper.

The wyvern roar turned into a death rattle as the holy light consumed it from within.

"One down!" Cassius said with a grim smile. 999 more to go.

Alaric chuckled darkly. "Always the optimist."

Another large wyvern dove toward them in the middle of their conversation.

Tendrils of purple Darkness erupted from the ground, wrapping around the wyverns wings, neck, and legs. The beast struggled against the chains that had formed around its body.

Alaric rays of Sword above his head with both hands. Dark mana swirled around the blade until it looked like a fragment of darkness.

"Dark Cleave!" Alaric’s voice boomed through the battlefield. The strike was fast and true.

One moment the wyvern was thrashing against its bonds and in the next, it had been severed cleanly from head to tail. The two pieces of the massive beast hit the ground and puddles splashed on the men.

Adrain shook his head in amazement. "I’ll never get used to seeing that."

Before anything else could be said, wyvern body parts started raining from the sky. Alaric had just slain over 50 wyverns with a single strike!

"Adrian you’re up." Alaric said with a slight smile.

Adrian slammed his great sword into the ground. He then ran past Alaric and jumped as a giant earth spike formed below his feet.

Adrain launched himself off the spike and pushed his hands together hard.

"Stone Prison!"

Suddenly the earth below came flying upwards wrapping twenty wyverns in an earth cage. Adrian punched the stone prisoner down into the ground.

When it made impact with the ground, large six meter spikes released in all directions impaling wyrms, drakes, and wyverns together.

"Wow Adrian, you make me look like the guard captain."

Alaric laughed at Cassius’s remark. "This will be a long night, but at least it won’t be boring." Alaric said.

System, how many of these things are there?

[Enemies: 1,317]

[WARNING!!]

[Multiple dread class enemies approaching!]

System put all available stat points into Magic stat.

[Magic stat increased to 53!]

System, what’s the difference between the drakes I’ve been fighting and these monsters?

[Vile class monsters have 300 - 800 HP on average. Dread class monsters have 2,000 - 5,000 HP with significantly more offensive abilities. It varies by beast.]

Finn wiped the blood from the spear and gave Jack an appraising look. "You fight well for someone so young. But we need to talk."

’About what?’ Jack said as he tilted his head.

"Because it’s my job." Finn said simply. "I owe your family a great debt."

Jack studied Finn more closely. Despite being so strong his body was malnourished. He thought his stats might be reduced like his were when he first woke up.

’What kind of debt leaves you a prisoner that would be so willing to help me?"

Finn’s expression darkened.

"I was left for dead, I was punished by a god. He took my right eye as punishment for my sins. I was hunted by inquisitors of Sanctorium. Your mother pleaded with the King to let me live as a prisoner for the rest of my life."

A shriek above interrupted their conversation. Three wyverns circled overhead waiting for a moment to strike.

[Enemy Detected: Storm Wyvern.]

[WARNING!! These creatures have increased resistance to lightning.]

’Well that’s just perfect.’ Jack muttered.

"What’s wrong?" Finn asked, noting Jack’s change in expression.

’These wyverns have increased resistance to lightning. That’s my advantage against dragons.’

Finn grinned, flames began to gather around his body. "Let’s see what you can do boy."

The first wyvern dove toward them, its claws crackled with purple lightning.

Jack rolled to the side as the wyvern clawed the ground, leaving large claw marks in the ground.

’Lightning Steps!"

Jack teleported behind the wyvern and stabbed its wings to immobilize it. While he generated static electricity in his other hand and hit the wyvern across the face.

’Thundershock!’

[Damage calculation...]

[-819 HP.]

The wyvern roared and spun around swinging its other wing toward Jack. He ducked, but the wing was so big it still managed to hit him and sent flying into a boulder.

[-100 HP]

"Kid!" Finn shouted, launching himself towards the wyvern. He concentrated his magic into the tip of his jagged spear.

"Flame Touch!"

The second the spear went into the wyvern’s neck, the wyvern’s neck exploded. Leaving a headdress beast to fall on the ground.

[-4000 HP]

Wow, even with a physical resistance, he can one shot a dread class. That’s crazy!
