I Have A Solo Mommy Plan, But Daddy Refuses to Let Go
Chapter 358: A Bucket of Cold Water
CHAPTER 358: CHAPTER 358: A BUCKET OF COLD WATER
Sienna Quinn handed over the gift she was holding. "Mrs. Warren, I heard from Axel Yates that you and Mr. Warren love tea, so here is some West Lake Green Tea for you. I hope you like it."
Axel Yates was pleased to see Sienna trying to win over his parents. Earlier in the car, Sienna insisted on transferring the money for the gift to him, which he thought was too formal at the time. But now he understood, Sienna wanted to be able to give the gift with confidence, and also please his parents. Her thinking was indeed considerate.
"Mom, don’t just chat with Sienna, let them sit down first," Axel said with a smile.
Mrs. Warren nodded and gave Mr. Warren a look. After Sienna and Evan Quinn sat down awkwardly across from them, Mr. Warren cleared his throat and began to speak.
"Miss Quinn, if you have time, bring your parents over to visit more often."
"My parents have both passed away." With Evan in her arms, Sienna replied one question after another, though the lonely look on her face was genuine.
Mrs. Warren’s eyes flashed with a calculation before quickly changing the subject with a smile.
Then she continued chatting with Sienna, "Is this little one your child? Oh my, he’s truly adorable, but the little one’s face doesn’t resemble our Axel Yates at all."
Of course, he couldn’t resemble Axel Yates, because he wasn’t Axel Yates’s child at all.
Sienna forced a smile; she didn’t believe that at all. Besides Mrs. Warren, everyone who knew Landon Lawson said Evan looked like him. She had even checked out childhood photos of Landon online, and in terms of looks, Evan indeed took after him.
If he resembled Axel, that would really be bizarre.
But she didn’t correct her, "Yes, this is Evan Quinn. Chloe, quickly call grandma and grandpa."
Evan showed no expression but obediently greeted the Warrens, "Hello, grandma and grandpa."
Mrs. Warren couldn’t stop smiling. Happily, she handed an apple to Evan, watching him intently.
After some time, Mrs. Warren’s face showed a sympathetic expression, "I had already heard from Axel about you. I know you and Evan have had a tough life; such a young age to live in a single-parent family. Sigh, let’s not talk about that. I’ve always wanted a daughter but ended up with two sons. If you don’t mind, can I take you as my goddaughter?"
"Mom!" Axel anxiously interrupted Mrs. Warren’s words. "Sienna doesn’t want to be your goddaughter!"
Goddaughter? What was happening? Had his older brother not clearly communicated their intentions to their parents? He didn’t bring Sienna and Evan here to establish family ties!
"Are you rebelling?" Mrs. Warren scolded loudly, then turned back to Sienna, "Axel has been spoiled by me, having no sense of propriety. He wants to make decisions for himself, but doesn’t know how devastating impulsive actions can be! He truly doesn’t measure up to you; you’re so well-behaved and sensible. I just like you."
It was only then that Sienna understood; the Warrens didn’t approve of her at all.
Although there wasn’t a blood relation between them and Axel, they had lived together for so many years. It was clear that Axel would go to great lengths to meet any request from this pair of parents.
That’s understandable since Axel needed them as a mental anchor.
Today, the Warrens used the pretext of taking her on as a goddaughter to block the topic of marriage discussions, allowing her to save some face.
"Mrs. Warren, thank you for your affection. I am naturally willing to recognize you as a godmother."
"Sienna?" Axel knew immediately how serious this was, calling her name with a pale and panicked look in his eyes.
Sienna turned and looked at Axel sincerely, "President Yates, I still hope you can return to being that carefree gentleman, instead of living so burdened."
Axel was taken aback, then lowered his head in deep thought.
Then Sienna turned back to the Warren parents with determination, "Mr. and Mrs. Warren, I believe you misunderstand me. I’m not here to discuss a marriage with Axel, I want to tell you that it’s impossible between Axel and me because there is already someone in my heart."
Sienna feared saying the wrong thing might backfire, eliciting their favor, and inadvertently making her Axel’s wife. Though she hadn’t yet finalized the divorce with Landon Lawson, right now, he wasn’t involved in these matters.
Evan was stunned to see his mom so candid, thinking how cool she was!
Suddenly, Evan had a tricky idea. With a mysterious smile, he sneaked away quietly, while no one noticed.
Sienna found it awkward to stay, so she bid farewell to Axel and left directly.
Behind her was Axel’s desperate gaze.
What Sienna didn’t know was that without her, Axel couldn’t live carefree; he slowly clenched his fist.
Landon Lawson! He must take Sienna away from him.
Leaving the Warren home, Sienna couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
She finally said everything, and although rejecting Axel this decisively felt unfair to him, dragging it on would only hurt him more, right?
Sienna had just walked out of the Warren’s gate and unexpectedly saw Chiara Thorne waiting for her.
Her friend Chiara was right on time; it had just been a moment since Sienna sent her location, and she had already arrived.
"How could you just come alone? Aren’t you afraid something might happen? Consider your own comfort, if not for yourself, then at least for your son."
Seeing Chiara, Sienna’s mood felt heavy.
Chiara was sure to ask endless questions.
Suddenly, Sienna realized the rejection from the Warrens was something she could understand and sympathize with, whereas Chiara’s concern felt burdensome.
Sure enough, when Chiara saw how quickly they were leaving, she pressed for answers till Sienna had to tell the truth.
Chiara, upon hearing it, grew unsettled, "I think Axel must’ve had ulterior motives. Don’t fall into his trap."
"I know, don’t worry," Sienna said softly.
"As long as you know. But the Warrens are really something else." Chiara said with annoyance.
"They’re just a family Axel funds as a mental anchor, yet they act like they’re his real parents? And they’re clearly not accepting you!"
Sienna smiled faintly. Chiara’s intense emotions couldn’t be calmed by her words or actions.
Seeing Sienna’s nonchalant demeanor only made Chiara angrier.
Actually, Sienna was quite satisfied with this outcome; at least it crushed Axel’s marriage hopes, thus removing some troubles.
This way, it was best for everyone involved.
And with that, Sienna could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
