CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49: IDENTICAL FACES

Never really understood what this terrifying inner self truly wanted.

Looking out the window, I saw a kindergarten right across the street. Parents’ cars came and went, and the little ones bid farewell to their teachers.

Landon Lawson would stop by the roadside every day when the kindergarten let out, silently watching Evan Quinn. Although he was too far away to see his features clearly, it was as if he could sense it — he recognized him at a glance; he was Sienna Quinn’s son.

The rain suddenly came pouring down, and my vision blurred instantly.

Landon’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. Nolan Shaw was really right; it actually started to rain. With dark clouds overhead, no one knew how long this storm would last.

Danielle Carter drove Sienna Quinn’s car to pick up Evan, feeling annoyed at herself for not checking the weather forecast and bringing an umbrella for this incessant rain.

With clothes draped over her head, she made a run for the kindergarten.

Evan placed a tiny figure he molded in craft class on Chloe’s desk. Chloe was pleasantly surprised, hugged it close, and with a bright smile said, "Thank you, Chloe’s brother, it’s so beautiful!"

Chloe blushed, turned his head away from the overly happy girl, and his expression was somewhat embarrassed, "It’s so ugly. I don’t even think it looks good."

"Whatever Chloe’s brother gives, Chloe thinks it’s pretty." Chloe said sweetly, overjoyed.

Seeing Danielle appear just in time at the door, Evan grabbed his backpack and dashed toward Danielle, as if finding a lifeline.

Danielle crouched down, embraced the petite Evan, and filled with wonder, asked, "Why so eager today?"

"Just wanted to see Sister Danielle, let’s go before the rain gets heavier." Evan’s sweet talking always made everyone in the company adore this cute little child. Although Sienna often brought Evan to work, no one spoke ill of her. These days, Sienna’s work skills have also been fully displayed.

The two of them, big and small, ran into the car through the rain. Watching Evan, who was now drenched with rain-soaked bangs, Danielle stared in a daze for a moment. Instinctively, she reached out and combed Evan’s heavy bangs back, revealing a smooth forehead. Despite the baby fat, the indifferent gaze, the sensual thin lips, and familiar eyebrows and eyes were remarkably similar to a mini Landon Lawson.

"Really looks so much alike, exactly the same!" The woman murmured to herself.

"What’s exactly the same?" Evan asked curiously while drying off the rainwater.

"Noth...nothing, let’s go back, President Quinn is still waiting."

Feeling a bit guilty, Danielle held onto the secret of Evan being Sienna’s biggest secret. Though she didn’t know why Sienna claimed Evan’s father had died, it’s clear she didn’t want anyone to know that Chloe’s biological father was actually Landon Lawson.

If this matter were exposed, the consequences would be unimaginable.

And Danielle wasn’t foolish enough to speak recklessly. This secret was best kept to herself.

The car just started, and the two chatted and laughed about things happening at the kindergarten.

Across the road, Landon Lawson watched as Evan and Danielle got in the car. Just as he was about to drive away, a loud crash sounded from behind.

The sound of rain mixed with honking, creating a chaotic scene in an instant.

Landon turned his head to see the car that was supposed to leave collided with a small oncoming truck. His brows furrowed slightly, just about to take action, when he saw a small figure staggering out from the passenger seat of the compact car, running towards him through the rain.

Knock knock knock!

Evan stretched out his little hand, desperately knocking on the car window.

"Uncle, please save Sister, her head is bleeding, there’s so much blood." The tender voice carried a quiver, even if normally mature and knowledgeable beyond his age, this was Evan’s first time seeing such a bloody scene.

Reason told him not to cry at this moment, no matter how scared, otherwise, Danielle wouldn’t be saved.

The car window slowly wound down, revealing a man’s indifferent expression.

Seeing the face often seen online, the small hand tapping the window paused, white teeth clenched on his lip.

"Uncle, we had an accident, Sister is bleeding a lot, please save her." At the sight of Landon Lawson, the tears Evan held back finally poured down like a burst dam, merging with the rainwater dripping to the ground.

This moment, the strong Evan uncharacteristically showed vulnerability, as if finding a person he could rely upon.

Landon had not intended to get involved since parents around were already beginning to gather and call the police. But when he saw this small figure staggering towards him, he surprisingly refrained from driving. As the car window wound down and he saw the little face so much like his own, Landon’s mind exploded.

Why do they look so alike? Why does Sienna’s son bear such a resemblance to him? Landon couldn’t figure it out. Could it be...

A huge assumption emerged in his mind, and Landon got out of the car. Holding an umbrella Nolan prepared beforehand, he crouched down, pressing his lips, looking at Evan stubbornly clenching his lips, trying not to cry out loud.

Without a word, he embraced Evan in his arms, gently patting his shoulder, "Don’t worry, I’m here, your sister will be fine."

The already frightened Evan, the moment he lay on the man’s shoulder, every fear inside burst out, and he buried his little head in the man’s neck.

Feeling the little one’s trembling body and the occasional sobbing sounds in his ear, this cold, ice-like man, Landon, surprisingly softened, gently patting his back.

"With me here, don’t be afraid!"

"Mm!" Evan’s choked voice sounded in the ear, and Landon gently patted his back, gradually soothing his emotions.

Evan eagerly lay on Landon’s shoulder.

Mommy, sorry, just for a moment, just leaning on Papa for a moment.

This long-lost feeling of being held by Daddy, it turns out to feel like this, ever since France, watching other kids being picked up by their fathers, how much he wanted to feel what being held by Daddy would be like.

Originally thought it felt the same as when Uncle Felix Orwell held him, but when Landon Lawson picked him up, there was an unprecedented sense of familiarity and comfort, every move so fluid as if the two had known each other for years.
