CHAPTER 65: NEPO HUSBAND

"SUNBAE-nim, let’s say someone is cast in a movie that’s predicted to be a hit. But, all of a sudden, you got the opportunity to audition for the same role. Will you take it?"

"Of course. Why wouldn’t I?"

Right?

Wonyoung knew he was asking a silly question.

After all, he couldn’t tell the truth.

It’s not like I can tell Dujun Sunbae-nim that An Baekya is about to audition for a role that belonged to someone else in the past.

But, come to think of it...

Someone else has been cast in the role that I’m about to audition for. So, does it mean I’m also stealing the opportunity from someone else?

Now Wonyoung was deep in his dilemma.

"Hoobae-nim, if they are holding an audition for the main role, that means they haven’t found the right actor to play it yet," Yun Dujun said, pausing for a moment. "Have you heard that another actor has already been cast in the role offered to you?"

"Huh? You already know the show I was offered, Sunbae-nim?"

"Well, Writer Shin is pretty famous. She’s the assistant writer of the drama where I made a cameo. But she finished her first script as the main screenwriter recently."

"And that script is the show offered to me?"

"Yeah," Yun Dujun said while nodding. "You’ve already heard what kind of role they want you to play, right?"

Wonyoung nodded. "They want me to audition for the role of an Omega pretending to be an Alpha."

To be honest, Wonyoung thought he suited the role 100%.

I’m an Omega, but I often get mistaken for an Alpha. The stereotype that male Omegas are ’pretty,’ ’petite,’ and ’androgynous’ exists because many male Omegas have that feature. But I’m handsome and tall— features that many Alphas share.

"Do you want me to tell you what the show is about, Hoobae-nim?"

Wonyoung’s eyes widened a little in surprise. "You already know about that, Sunbae-nim? Is that information already available to the public?"

"It’s still confidential, but I have my ways."

Aigoo.

To be fair, I’m not surprised. Dujun Sunbae-nim is well-connected in the industry, after all.

However...

"No, I want to be surprised, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said while shaking his head. "It’s enough that I know what kind of character they want me to play. I want to know about the plot once I go to the audition."

"I knew you’d say that."

"But is it true that they already have an actor in mind for the role that Writer Shin offered to me? Why would Writer Shin approach me if that’s the case?"

"I believe it’s the investors who are pushing the actor they want for that role. But Writer Shin probably doesn’t agree with the investors, and so she asked you to audition. If my hunch is correct, then I think Writer Shin wants to use the audition as a way to convince the investors to choose the actor that she wants."

"Oh, that sounds scary. What if the investors pull out because Writer Shin wants me instead of the actor they chose?"

"Then I’ll invest in that show if you pass the audition."

Wonyoung let out a gasp. "You’re turning me into a nepo husband, Sunbae-nim."

"A nepo husband?" Yun Dujun paused for a moment, and then he burst out laughing. "That sounds about right."

Oho?

Wonyoung was pleased to see Yun Dujun laughing freely like that.

I always joke about how expensive Sunbae-nim’s laugh sounds. But, in all seriousness, it’s nice to see him laughing like that. He’s often stoic, so seeing him smile widely like that makes him look more humane.

"Well, I’m a nepo baby myself," Yun Dujun said after a while. He had already stopped laughing. But, even though the Alpha had already calmed down, his face remained beaming. "My mother is a veteran actress, after all. I never directly used my mother’s influence to get the roles I wanted. But her connections gave me easy access to auditions when I was young."

"I would have hated you if you were a talentless nepo baby, Sunbae-nim. But I’ll give you a free pass because you’re one of the best actors of this generation. That level of talent isn’t something you’ll get just because your mother is a veteran actress."

"Thank you for your generosity, Hoobae-nim. I’ll remember your warm words once my family background is exposed. I’m sure the general public will start criticizing me for being a nepo baby. And, oh, for being the illegitimate child of Chairman Yun as well."

"You sound calm, Sunbae-nim. Are you ready for that moment?"

"Yeah. I’ve already established myself as a talented actor. I don’t think what I’ve built for the past six years would crumble easily."

"What if your fans find out about me and Yun Yuhyun? They’ll hate you for lying to them."

"I never said I was single, though."

"You never did?"

"In the first place, I never allowed questions about my personal life. So, I didn’t really lie to the public. I just didn’t talk about my private life, that’s all."

"Sunbae-nim, you’re so good at gaslighting."

"Thank you, Hoobae-nim."

Pfft.

It was Wonyoung’s turn to laugh.

"That wasn’t a compliment, Sunbae-nim. Gaslighting is bad."

Yun Dujun just shrugged. "Are you feeling better now, Hoobae-nim?"

Oh.

Is Sunbae-nim giving me a pep talk to make me feel better?

"You’re not stealing another person’s opportunity when nothing is set in stone yet, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said. "If you don’t want to have doubts, then all you have to do is crush all your opponents during the audition. The best actor gets the role— that’s all there is to it."

That actually made a lot of sense.

Yes, I do feel bad for the original actor in the ’future.’ But this timeline has already been a mess since An Baekya and I returned. To ease my guilt, I’ll just do my best.

Moreover...

"I shouldn’t count the chickens before they hatch," Wonyoung reminded himself. "It’s arrogant of me to worry about stealing someone else’s opportunity when I haven’t passed the audition yet."

"I’m sure you’ll get the role, Hoobae-nim," Yun Dujun said confidently. "You are my hoobae, after all."

Hehe.

***

OH MY GOD.

Wonyoung was horrified by seeing how many sticks were on his plate.

That meant he ate that many wagyu cubes.

Was I possessed by a starving ghost?

"Just how much meat did I eat?" Wonyoung said, patting his protruding belly. "I’m going to get fat..."

On top of eating a lot of meat, he also ate a lot of rice.

Diet.

I’m going on a diet starting tomorrow.

"Papa, you’re skinny. It’s okay to eat more," Yun Yuhyun said firmly. "You’re going to turn into a stick if you don’t eat, Papa."

"I’m not that skinny, Yuhyun-ah..."

"But compared to Daddy, you look like a stick, Papa."

"That’s because your daddy is built like a double-door fridge."

Yun Dujun was tall and very fit— broad shoulders, wide expanse of chest, washboard stomach, slim waist, and taut hips.

No wonder noir dramas and films suit him very well.

"You actually need to gain weight, Hoobae-nim. In case you haven’t noticed, you haven’t gained your previous weight yet before your accident," Yun Dujun said carefully. "I’m not telling you to gain weight for aesthetic purposes— I’m saying this because you need to improve your stamina once you start acting. So, you might need to bulk up a little."

Of course, Wonyoung already knew that.

I just get anxious since the industry I want to enter values visuals and fitness.

"A balanced diet is the key, Appa. And exercise," An Baekya said cheerfully. "Appa, you just have to exercise with Abeoji to stay fit."

Huh?

Suddenly?

"That’s a great idea, Baekya," Yun Dujun said, praising An Baekya, before looking at Wonyoung. "Let’s run later, Hoobae-nim."

Wonyoung gasped softly. "But you run like an athlete, Sunbae-nim."

***

"HOOBAE-NIM, you’re already tired?"

"I’m dying, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung complained while lying down on the grass, staring at the beautiful starry night sky. It was cold, but his body was warm from all the running they did for thirty minutes. "You can just leave me here. I don’t think I can move anymore."

"It’s because you lack exercise," Yun Dujun scolded him, and then the Alpha sat next to him. "You should start working out starting tomorrow morning. Use the gym at home."

"Yes, Sunbae-nim."

After saying that, Wonyoung stared at Yun Dujun’s handsome face.

Then his gaze wandered down the Alpha’s body.

He couldn’t help it because Yun Dujun started removing the jacket of his tracksuit— revealing a tight shirt under.

Ah, this man is so sexy.

"Hoobae-nim, your pheromones..."

"I know, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, embarrassed. "I’m toning it down now."

As a Dominant Omega, Wonyoung was usually good at controlling his pheromones.

But not around Dujun Sunbae-nim!

"Hoobae-nim, I know a type of exercise that you might enjoy."

"I don’t think I’ll enjoy any kind of exercise, Sunbae-nim."

"But you did enjoy it whenever we did it five years ago."

"What do you mean..."

Wonyoung trailed off when the realization hit him, and then his face flushed from embarrassment.

Sunbae-nim is talking about sex!

"Your face looks so red, even in the dark," Yun Dujun said teasingly. "I’m sorry. Did I go too far with my joke?"

"That was just a joke, Sunbae-nim?"

"Hmm?"

"You don’t want to sleep with me again?"

"I do, Hoobae-nim."

Oh.

Wonyoung knew that he was the one who started it, but he was surprised when Yun Dujun answered that fast.

Well, this is something we should discuss, anyway.

"Hoobae-nim, can we be intimate until our divorce?"

Oh.
