Chapter 99: LUCK HAS TURNED
CHAPTER 99: LUCK HAS TURNED
WHY IS Hyung suddenly releasing sweet pheromones while I’m crying my heart out here?
Wonyoung removed his hands that were covering his face, then he got up and looked at Yun Dujun.
Oh?
The sweetness of the Alpha’s scent matched the honey dripping from his eyes while looking back at Wonyoung.
That caused him to suddenly feel self-conscious.
"Why are you looking at me like that, Hyung?" Wonyoung asked, feeling shy. "And you’re spilling sweet pheromones. Are you happy that I’m crying? Is this you coming out as a sadist?"
"Wonyoung-ah, your imagination is too wild sometimes," Yun Dujun said while getting up, sitting on the bed while leaning against the headboard. Then the Alpha effortlessly lifted Wonyoung and put him on his lap. "I’m not happy that you’re crying— I am happy that you are crying for me."
Oh.
Yun Dujun then started wiping the tears off Wonyoung’s cheeks with his fingers. "I can feel how you care about me, and that makes me happy. You must really like me a lot, huh?"
Aigoo.
"Yeah, I really like you, Hyung," Wonyoung said. He wasn’t shy about expressing his feelings for Yun Dujun since they were already together anyway. Plus, after hearing about the Alpha’s tragic childhood, he wanted to be more vocal and expressive about his feelings. "If I could turn back time, I would like it if we had met earlier."
"Uh, I’m not sure about that. You were still in middle school when I became an adult, Wonyoung-ah. I would have probably ignored you then. I’m not into minors..."
"Hyung, get your head out of the gutter. I’m just trying to say that I wish I were your friend when you were a child."
"We couldn’t have been friends because I am four years older than you."
Seriously, this hyung...
"Let’s say we met when you were four and I was eight. I can’t imagine a kindergarten comforting an elementary school student."
"Hyung, you’re being annoying now."
Yun Dujun chuckled. "Wonyoung-ah, I appreciate the fact that you wanted to be there when I was a child. But, to be honest, I prefer the way we met. After all, anyone could be my friend back then. But only you could be my husband— it has to be you and only you, Bae Wonyoung."
Okay, that melted Wonyoung’s heart.
Aside from the fact that Yun Dujun just said something so romantic, the Alpha’s face and voice were also full of love as he said those words.
Honey dripping from Hyung’s eyes, and his voice has never sounded as sweet as this.
Ah, someone was in love.
And I think I just fell for Hyung all over again.
"You’re right, Hyung— I’m your husband, so I should be consoling you as a lover and not as a friend," Wonyoung said, cupping Yun Dujun’s face between his hands. And then he pressed a firm kiss against the Alpha’s lips. "Hyung, it’s a shame that I can’t change your childhood. So, I’ll just focus on the present and our future. I’ll make sure you’ll never feel lonely and unloved ever again."
Yun Dujun smiled, cupping Wonyoung’s face this time. "I’m looking forward to it, baby."
Wonyoung wanted to complain about the cringey endearment, but all his complaints were swallowed by Yun Dujun’s deep kisses.
Okay, I’ll let it slide for now.
***
"I DON’T think the shaman could make it today."
Aigoo.
Wonyoung actually didn’t know what to feel.
He was relieved that they didn’t have to meet the shaman today, but he also felt a little disappointed.
I have questions for the shaman, after all.
"It seems like I invited you here for nothing, Wonyoung-ssi."
"That’s not true, Father-in-law," Wonyoung said politely while smiling at Yun Hyuk. "I’m having a nice time here."
He still felt awkward around his Alpha father-in-law.
Fortunately, Han Hyunjin and Yun Dujun were also there.
After all, the four of them were having tea in the fancy reception room.
"I think the shaman is just avoiding us because she knows we’re going to grill her after what Eomma did," Yun Dujun said, frowning. "Even Grandfather suddenly doesn’t want to see us."
Oh, right.
We’re supposed to be meeting Dujun Hyung’s grandfather, too.
"Wonyoung-ah, you must have been surprised when you found that spy camera on the plane," Han Hyunjin said. "We’ll make sure that it won’t happen again."
Wonyoung smiled and nodded. "I know, Appa. Dujun Hyung also assured me that it won’t happen again, and I trust him."
As if on cue, Yun Dujun suddenly got a call.
And so did Wonyoung.
Yes, at the same time.
Yun Dujun checked the caller ID on his phone. "It’s a call from Uncle George."
Didn’t George, the chief of staff, accompanied An Baekya to the acting academy?
Meanwhile...
"Coach Kwon Taeyoo is calling," Wonyoung said nervously. "Hyung, go and pick up the call— both Uncle George and Coach Kwon are at the acting academy. And, yet, both of them are calling us at the same time."
Something must have happened then.
Yun Dujun, who quickly realized that fact as well, nodded before picking up the call.
Wonyoung did the same thing.
And it seemed like the two of them got the same message.
Wonyoung and Yun Dujun said the same thing, after all.
"My mother-in-law is there?"
"Eomma is there?"
Wonyoung and Yun Dujun looked at each other, both shocked and worried.
Dammit.
***
"I KNOW you’re worried, but I’m keeping an eye on Baekya. I’ll make sure that Chunja won’t hurt the child in any way. Moreover, George is here."
Wonyoung was relieved to hear that.
Even so, he couldn’t stop worrying.
I know Dujun Hyung is already driving past the limit, but I still wish he’d drive faster.
Of course, he didn’t say that out loud.
Yun Dujun was driving fast, but he was driving carefully as well, so they wouldn’t get into an accident.
I should trust Uncle George and Coach Kwon.
Moreover, An Baekya was a smart ’kid.’
An Baekya won’t let my evil mother-in-law hurt him.
That thought helped him calm down.
"Thank you, Coach," Wonyoung said, calmer this time. "Dujun Hyung and I will be there in a minute. I’ll hang up now, Coach."
"Alright, see you later."
Wonyoung ended the call because he didn’t want Coach Kwon Taeyoo getting distracted.
I want him to keep an eye on An Baekya.
"Wonyoung-ah, I’ll ask George to bring An Baekya to you later," Yun Dujun said. The Alpha looked and sounded calm, but his stinky pheromones said otherwise. "I’ll talk to my mother."
"No, Hyung," Wonyoung said firmly. "I want to talk to your mother. If it were just the spy cameras, I would have let you handle it. But your mother showed up at An Baekya’s school. I can tell that she’s doing this to mess with me. If your mother is picking a fight with me, then I’ll humor her." He looked at the Alpha and gave him a warning gaze. "Don’t even try to stop me, Hyung. And, if you take your mother’s side again, I’ll really get mad."
"Wonyoung-ah, I’m not taking my mother’s side. And, fine, I won’t stop you," Yun Dujun said, sighing. "But if you’re picking a fight with my mother, do it next to me— I’ll make sure I’ll be able to protect you this time."
***
WHEW.
Wonyoung didn’t want to admit this, but he started getting nervous while they were in the elevator leading to Kwon Taeyoo’s office.
My brain is telling me not to be scared of my mother-in-law, but my body isn’t listening.
"Wonyoung-ah, stay close to me," Yun Dujun said while holding Wonyoung’s cold and shaking hand. "Uncle George said Eomma came alone, so she just probably went here because she knew we’d come if she showed up at An Baekya’s academy."
Yeah, that was his conclusion, too.
"Hyung, if your mother hurts An Baekya in any way, I’m going to sue," Wonyoung said firmly. "I’ll do anything and everything to put her in jail, even if your grandfather and the shaman try to stop me. And I’m going to use my alimony to fight your family."
"Why are you suddenly bringing up alimony? We’re not divorcing, Bae Wonyoung."
"I’ll divorce you if you protect your mother again, Hyung."
"I’m not protecting my mother anymore."
"Prove it, Hyung."
Yun Dujun nodded, and then they got off the elevator when the doors opened— still holding hands.
Wonyoung braced himself.
I’m not going to let my evil mother-in-law scare me ever again.
"Are you ready, Wonyoung-ah?"
"Yes, Hyung."
As soon as Wonyoung answered, Yun Dujun opened the door.
Ah, she stands out.
Well, it wasn’t just because Kang Chunja was the only woman in the room.
It was also because of the veteran actress’ refined aura that made her stand out.
I hate to admit this, but my evil mother-in-law aged like fine wine.
Kang Chunja was a beautiful old woman, who was elegant from head to toe.
"We finally met again, Bae Wonyoung."
Wonyoung bowed his head politely. "It’s been a while, Mother-in-law."
Kang Chunja scrunched her nose, obviously displeased that Bae Wonyoung called her ’mother-in-law,’ even though he was just trying to be polite.
Tsk.
I should have just called her ’grandmother’ since she’s one.
"Appa... Abeoji..."
Wonyoung immediately turned to his side and was relieved to see An Baekya standing between George and Coach Kwon Taeyoo.
Ah, they really protected An Baekya.
"Yun Dujun, why would you let a random child call you ’abeoji?’" Kang Chunja scolded Yun Dujun angrily. "Did you really adopt that kid whose origin is unknown?"
"Eomma, stop it," Yun Dujun said firmly. "An Baekya is mine and Bae Wonyoung’s son."
"It’s that baby maker’s idea to adopt that peasant child, isn’t it?"
Wonyoung rolled his eyes because it wasn’t the first time Kang Chunja called him a ’baby maker’ instead of acknowledging him as Yun Dujun’s husband.
"Eomma, take that back and apologize to Bae Wonyoung," Yun Dujun said coldly while walking angrily towards his mother. The Alpha’s stinky pheromones exploded in the room. "Bae Wonyoung is my husband, and it’s going to stay that way forever."
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND, YUN DUJUN?!"
Aigoo.
Wonyoung flinched when Kang Chunja suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs.
Now all the elegance around the supposedly refined woman disappeared, just like that.
I’ll let Dujun Hyung handle his mother.
Wonyoung walked towards An Baekya and was about to ask the child if he was okay, but...
"Eomma!"
"Appa, watch out!"
Wonyoung was confused when George and Coach Kwon Taeyoo suddenly ran towards him, but he was more curious as to why Yun Dujun yelled at his mother.
And, so, he turned to his mother-in-law.
Much to his shock, he saw the old woman pointing a gun at him.
A gun, in this country with strict gun control regulations?!
Wonyoung flinched when Kang Chunja pulled the trigger, bracing himself to be shot.
However...
BANG!
"ARGH!"
Kang Chunja let out a blood-curdling scream a few moments after the gunshot echoed.
Wonyoung was shocked by the turn of events.
Yes, he was relieved that he didn’t get shot— that none of them was hurt. But he was still bewildered by what had just happened.
The gun exploded in my evil mother-in-law’s hand...?
