I Really Am A Villain
Chapter 1646 - Countless Who Died In The Abyss
When Xu Zimo stepped into the crashing waves, the four Immortal Giants behind him followed as well, moving as if they had no consciousness of their own.
They weren’t truly alive. They were more like guardians bound to this bridge.
Because the bridge behind them was collapsing nonstop, Xu Zimo had no choice but to walk on air. If he were knocked down, he had no idea what lay at the bottom of the abyss, so he had been treading carefully the entire time.
The moment he entered the waves, even though he had already assimilated the Dao of Oblivion, the pressure coming from the water still felt as if it wanted to erase him completely. That sensation couldn’t be avoided.
An Immortal Giant stepped in after him. One massive hand tore through the waves and tried to grab Xu Zimo.
“The waves don’t affect them?” Xu Zimo was startled.
But taking a closer look, he realized the giants were being corroded, just extremely slowly. The erosion was starting from their feet.
Xu Zimo frowned. “Since that’s the case, I’ll help speed things up.”
The vast Dao of Oblivion around him fused into the waves. The water grew even more violent. Like a raging tide, the waves smashed across the endless sky, determined to tear everything apart.
Xu Zimo was like a lone leaf in the storm. Even the mighty Immortal Giants couldn’t stand firm, dragged and tossed around by the violent sea.
The giants roared, trying to escape from the torrent, but Xu Zimo would not let them slip away. The Dao of Oblivion wrapped around him, forming chains that shot forward and bound the giants, trying to drag them in.
The Immortal Giants howled upward, power churning around them. One sweep of an arm shattered the chains. They clearly feared the Dao of Oblivion and instinctively struggled with everything they had.
Xu Zimo’s blade intent surged like an ocean. Power swept outward as the blade intent stirred the waves, blocking the giants again and again. Borrowing the strength of the Undying Waves, he managed to stall the four giants for a short time.
The waves churned endlessly.
Finally, after time wore them down, three of the Immortal Giants had their legs completely corroded. They collapsed into the waves, still clawing forward, but were soon submerged and consumed.
The last giant, in its final moment, lunged straight at Xu Zimo. Both hands clamped tightly around his ankles and dragged him down into the abyss.
Xu Zimo felt the giant’s strength, it had already surpassed the Saint Sovereign level. The unstoppable power locked onto his legs and pulled him downward at a speed the naked eye couldn’t track. He had no room to resist as he was dragged into the darkness.
During the fall, he noticed that the walls of the abyss were covered in countless vines and branches. They wrapped around him, the sharp thorns piercing into his flesh. Xu Zimo felt faint, his strength sealed away, and soon consciousness slipped from him.
…
“Traveler who weeps from afar, forget pain, forget the past. We forever await you.”
“Traveler who weeps from afar, forget tears, forget death. We shall never see daylight again.”
Whispered voices echoed in his ears.
Xu Zimo didn’t know how long had passed. There was nothing in this darkness, no time, no space, just endless blackness wrapping around his numb body.
He slowly opened his eyes.
“Where is this?” he murmured, frowning.
His internal strength was sealed by some mysterious power. Aside from his physical body, he could use none of his abilities. He knew he had been careless. He shouldn’t have stepped into the end of the Dragon Sea so easily to seek the origin of Oblivion. But now he had no retreat, and the only thing he could do was follow the whispering voices and look for direction.
Following the murmurs, Xu Zimo walked for several minutes and finally saw a figure ahead.
It was a skeleton, impossible to tell how long it had been dead. Yet the bones still glimmered gold, lighting up half a mile of the surrounding darkness.
Xu Zimo stopped before it. In front of the bones, a line of words had been written in dried blood.
“I, the Supreme Imperial God, refuse to die in darkness. Trapped here for 3,800,000 years, but birth, aging, sickness, and death spare no one. At last I sit here to pass away.”
Seeing the words, Xu Zimo was stunned. This person had been trapped for 3,800,000 years and eventually died here. In this place, no matter how long your lifespan, you would eventually perish.
If he were trapped here as well… Xu Zimo didn’t dare imagine it. He continued walking forward.
After a few more minutes, he encountered another set of bones. This one clearly wasn’t human. It looked like some enormous beast. Even after countless years, he could still see its fangs inside the skull, and the sharp wings and claws attached to its spine.
The corpse was twisted, as if it had died in a fierce battle. There was a faint black glow on its bones. Another line of words was carved before it.
“I am the Abyssal Demon God. I fell into this place thirty million years ago. For thirty million years I tried every method, yet none could escape this land. Laughable, it took a life spent dominating all of Azure Mystic Heaven, defeating heroes across the world, only to wither here, dying unknown.”
Xu Zimo fell silent for a moment, then kept moving. He felt certain there was more ahead.
Sure enough, he soon saw more bones, not just one, but hundreds. Unfortunately, most belonged to cultivators of lower strength; their remains had decayed almost completely. Only a few strong ones remained intact.
Before them was another message.
“I regret it. I should never have brought my people here. Today, my Nine-Sun Phoenix Race perishes in this place. I am the greatest sinner. The temptation of the Dao of Oblivion, who in this world can resist it? Ridiculous. Pitiful. Tragic.”
Xu Zimo stood before the message, unable to fully describe what he felt. The Nine-Sun Phoenix, one of the Hundred Races, had been led into ruin by their progenitor. From this day on, their race likely no longer existed.
And judging from the skeletons before him, this was only a small portion. The weak had long since turned to dust. The average had mostly rotted away. Only those with truly great strength left behind complete bones.
