CHAPTER 88: CHAPTER 88: SYNDICATE CHANGES

When Alex finally woke up in the evening, Lucy was nowhere to be found beside him.

He had a good nap with her that afternoon which is both good and refreshing.

She must have gotten up earlier to take care of her usual household matters or maybe she is just shy with the time they spent their time together, so she quietly left him to rest without any disturbance to disturb his sleep.

As for what had happened at noon, that was a secret known only to him and Lucy, something that will be never be going to explained to anyone else anytime soon.

He stretched a little moved his body a little, stretched his sore waist a little to ease his cramped muscles and it took him sometime to notice to his surprise that he has healed so much in such a short time period from the sword wounds by the Assassin.

"The medication that Jacob gave Lucy really works wonders, Don’t know if I can mass produce it and sell it in my world, it will be surely a hit." he muttered to himself and made a mental note to ask Jacob about it.

After just an afternoon of rest, the wounds on his body had already begun to scab over, and the bruises that had covered him had faded noticeably.

He examined himself carefully and the more he looked at himself the more he couldn’t help but feel amazed at the rapid recovery.

Feeling better, Alex stepped out into the living room.

Just as he did, the door opened, and Nathan Hartwell, The son of Mr. Hartwell walked in.

These past few days, Nathan had been acting under Alex’s guidance and taking the goods from the warehouse to sell on the black market from time to time.

Most of the week while he was gone, Nathan was managing the loot that he has got from raiding the old Axe Gang stronghold.

With both profits and victories piling up, Nathan’s confidence had risen sharply by it, and he returned home today in high spirits, leading a large group of his gang members behind.

The moment his eyes landed on Alex, Nathan’s face brightened up instantly.

The crew behind him instantly straightened their backs, and then, as if on cue, shouted in unison with big booming voices:

"Greetings, Big Boss!"

The sound of hundreds of people shouting together was deafening, surging up like thunder and echoing throughout the Hartwell household.

It was obvious they had rehearsed this beforehand, the uniformity and timing of their shout so precise that it almost shook the windows.

Alex raised his eyebrows slightly.

"Quite the spectacle," he thought. "It’s certainly impressive... but the volume is too much, it’s enough to make my ears ring."

As they entered the main hall, all of Nathan’s men kept their eyes on Alex with visible respect in their eyes and admiration written plainly across their faces.

Noticing this detail, Alex could only smile bitterly to himself.

It looked like, whether he liked it or not, he had firmly secured the role of some type of gang leader in their eyes.

If these people ever learned that he wasn’t even from this world, he thought to himself, they would probably be frightened out of their wits.

"Brother Alex, these people are all willing to follow me and become my followers.

Earlier today, I treated them to a good meal at a restaurant, but I didn’t expect that when we came back, We would run into you here, Brother Alex after so long.

What a coincidence!"

Nathan’s face was full of excitement and joy the moment he saw Alex.

In his heart, he was very clear about his position without Brother Alex’s guidance and help, he would never have achieved today’s results.

To him, Alex was not just a mentor but a benefactor for their family.

Seeing the sincerity in Nathan’s respectful eyes, Alex gave a slight nod.

At least he felt that he had not misjudged him back then; Nathan had indeed lived up to the investment he initially made in his earlier days in this world.

But when Alex looked again at the crowd, his brows furrowed slightly.

Something didn’t add up.

The last time he fought Simon’s gang alongside Nathan, there had been only twenty or thirty men.

Yet now, after just two days, Nathan had somehow gathered hundreds of people.

How could their numbers have multiplied so fast? Could it be that they were just a bunch of drunkards or street loafers brought together for show?

The thought made Alex a little uneasy.

Right now, it felt almost as though he had stepped into the role of the Godfather from those old movies, sitting back and instructing the next generation on how to expand their "family business."

The whole situation was strange to him, yet at the same time oddly exciting.

"Nathan, come with me into the room," Alex finally said, gesturing with his hand for Nathan to follow him inside.

Once they were seated in private, Alex didn’t hold back and spoke bluntly:

"The Syndicate’s numbers are growing too fast. I just looked, and by my estimation, there are already at least several hundred members.

What exactly happened during these past week?"

Nathan blinked his dark eyes and leaned forward, almost eager to explain.

"Brother Alex, do you remember when we defeated that Simon that day?

I took it as a chance to expand our power. So afterward, I led my men to raid Simon’s lair.

We found that his gang had stored away thousands of taels of gold. I wanted to bring it all here to give to you, Brother Alex, But you have already left nowhere to be found.

And those dozens of men who originally served under Charles—when they saw that we are becoming strong and capable, they immediately defected and came over to our side.

I figured the Viper syndicate is at the stage where it needs expansion, so I accepted them all without hesitation."
