CHAPTER 382: AN UNFORESEEN ENTRY?

When Lillian had first destroyed the egg and claimed the "soul" of it, the whisper from the enchantment [Curse of Murder] was barely conceivable and hard to make out.

The whisper was quiet. But with each death caused by the volcanic shockwave caused by her scythe, it grew just a bit louder.

However, it wasn’t enough to drive her mad, or anyone for that matter. It was still bearable. However, Lillian didn’t quite enjoy the thought of it.

After regaining her balance and flipping through the air with unnatural athleticism, she gazed down at her scythe—a look of unease revealing inside her sparkly blue eyes.

’I should refrain from using the scythe...’

Although the scythe was indeed powerful for "Crowd Control", it wasn’t good if she kept on increasing the number of souls it claimed and the volume of the whispers.

How could she give it away afterwards?

Putting away the scythe, Lillian switched back to using her shortsword.

As Lillian fought on, she occasionally threw glances towards Millis’s general location and wondered how the Heroine was doing.

Fortunately, the woman seemed to be doing well.

Hiding behind a wall of stone soldiers, Millis let out a yawn as she lazily swung her sword "here-and-there".

If Lillian hadn’t already been aware of Millis’s potential and what she was capable of to a degree, she wouldn’t have been slightly offended and in awe at how calmly she was taking the situation.

’Well, not like I am not anyway.’

[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Barrel Mole]

After ripping her sword from a Barrel Mole, Lillian watched as every single one of them froze in unison. Millis too noticed this and commanded her soldiers to cease their attack.

And surprisingly, even Brexten noticed and stopped his attack, although he eventually ran out of time in his strengthened form.

Everyone looked towards the massive, gaping hole in the centre of the nursery floor.

They felt the ground tremble—shudder, even. It was on a much greater scale compared to the appearance of the hundreds of moles around them.

Lillian breathed a sigh—a nervous sigh, but still one of anticipation.

The Alpha was coming.

Lillian had already destroyed most of the eggs, which the Alpha would devour to evolve. It was fine, she was sure that with their current odds, they all could take it down, even with the other moles in the way.

’Any moment now... It should pop out of that hole just like how all of these moles di—’

BOOM!

"LILLIAN!"

As Lillian monologued, her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a loud sound to her right and an ear-piercing scream to her left.

With her senses becoming fully heightened, she felt the world slow down as she slowly drifted her eyes towards her left, watching as Millis’s eyes were shot wide open and her hand stretched out to her.

Confusion flickered into Lillian’s eyes.

She flashed them to her right, then up once she noticed a large shadow looming over her.

What she found was a massive piece of stone rubble falling towards her location. Lillian’s eyes widened as her mind raced.

This hadn’t happened before.

With a flick of her wrist, she summoned a blob of water and shaped it into a drill. After destroying the piece of rubble, the world returned to normal, except...

She felt an unnatural and... Somewhat primal fear fall upon her existence.

Looking up, she found a massive wall of dust standing before her—slowly gliding and settling down.

Once it had become less concentrated and murky, Lillian noticed a large dark figure standing inside the dust cloud. The sight of this caused her to break out into subtle sweat.

It was big—15 metres big. It was far bigger than her...

And...

She feared it was much stronger than anything in this general location.

This was the Alpha...

Lillian, managing to get a glimpse behind it, found a large hole in the wall—it was brand new and was the exact same size for it to fit through. But the question wasn’t whether it was for it, but rather...

’Why... Why did this thing appear through this way—?’

Right before Lillian could even conclude her horrified thoughts, the dust cloud suddenly bursted outwards as something shot towards her like lightning.

Lillian’s eyes constricted to a frightened degree.

The distance between her and the hidden Alpha was at least 10 metres and yet...

"S-shi—!"

At that moment, when she was face-to-face with a claw that dwarfed her entire body and would be crushed just one tenth of a second later...

Her body turned fluid.

DUM!

Millis watched as the Alpha struck down at Lillian’s position, then saw the ground break apart into web cracks.

With no delay afterwards, a cloud of dust formed as a deep crater was left where Lillian previously stood. This sent a wave of concern and worry through her eyes, but she sighed in relief as she watched something slip out.

Several narrow streams of water slithered out from the cracks of the crater and exited the dust cloud, reforming back into a humanoid figure.

Once Lillian had returned to her regular form, everyone who had managed to sneak a look at her face would find a darkened expression—furrowed brows and narrowed eyes.

And as her face wrinkled, so did her mind as she wondered what was going on.

Why had the monster changed the way it appeared randomly!?

Before Lillian could get a momentary breather from almost being crushed to death, she was surrounded. Her eyes flashed with worry as she found their speed to become concerningly heightened.

Lillian raised her sword—

CLANG!

—And managed to block a powerful swing from one.

Lillian continued to block swing after swing. But the monsters that had previously been barely able to contest with her in terms of speed were now giving her some struggle.

’Fighting an alpha is such a pain in the ass...!’

[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Barrel Mole]

After managing to kill one and freeing her weapon from their forehead, Lillian couldn’t help but notice that her arms had become somewhat numb from the force behind her blows.

Looking down at her hand and noticing that it shook slightly, Lillian winced slightly.

But then, she caught sight of a large shadow looming over her once again...
