CHAPTER 384: FALL OF AN ALPHA? [2]
It wasn’t just any regular rope, but a looped rope—a lasso, to be more exact.
Lillian watched as it flew through the air at a speed capable of reaching the mage party before they were crushed. Then, she watched as the hole in the lasso expanded outwards to a size that was enough to fit the three-person group.
And as swiftly as it came, the lasso pulled them out of the way. Its speed even left Lillian stunned as she had only realised that her decision had already been answered for her.
Her vision of the slow world returned to normal as she morphed her body back to water.
BOOM!
After dodging the falling rubble, Lillian reappeared again and quickly leapt back again—her black cloak fluttering around her. Lillian coughed, accidentally breathing in the dust.
Once she landed, Lillian had intended to buy a potion before feeling something get into her eyes. She cursed out loud and rubbed her eyes.
After a moment, she managed to regain her vision. However, Lillian found herself dangerously under the Alpha, who had already reeled back its right arm to deliver another strike at her position.
Lillian widened her reddened eyes. She didn’t have enough mana to dodge this next blow!
Twisting on her heel, Lillian spun and intended to outrun the attack, which she fortunately managed to do.
However—
DUM!
—The radius of the blow caused her to be hit with several shattered stones. And after she had managed to escape the dust cloud, the Alpha was already prepared to send out another attack.
And this time...
Lillian feared she wouldn’t be able to dodge this next one on her own.
As the large metallic claw, with a size that dwarfed her multiple times, zoomed in on her, she felt something wrap itself around her waist.
Then, with a tug, she felt the lasso fling her out of the way—
DUM!
—Managing to pull her away fast enough to avoid the crushing blow.
Lillian’s body was pulled over the massive hole. She then harshly landed on the solid, rough ground with a groan—something she much preferred over being turned into red paste.
Slowly sitting back up, Lillian glanced to the side with a brief look of fatigue and also gratefulness.
Standing beside her was a woman several inches taller than her with a leather cowboy hat, jacket, and cowboy boots. She had long brown hair, green eyes, and a small number of freckles.
It was Viesta.
Pushing up her hat, which had caused a dark shadow on her face, Viesta grinned at Lillian’s current state and found it quite humorous. Spitting out the toothpick she had in her mouth, she spoke:
"Well, hello there, Partner... You’re lookin’ lost-for-wear right now. So this was what you’ve been up to, huh?"
Releasing the lasso around Lillian’s waist, she pulled the girl up to her feet before adding, "You also looked like someone who took on an entire horde on her own... What? Ya still haven’t figured out how to work with others?"
Lillian stared into Viesta’s eyes and watched as the woman raised an eyebrow at her, which obviously signified a hint of disappointment. Lillian smiled wryly.
"It’s a bit hard to work with others, if you’re being chased." Lillian then took a quick glance around them, finding that both Millis and Brexten’s group were standing around them.
She then glanced towards a conspicuous-looking machine hovering right above them with a camera. It was a drone.
The people working at the surveillance station had sent Viesta in with a drone to spectate the battle.
Lillian turned to the side and found the entrance—that Millis had blocked up earlier—destroyed and broken through; Viesta’s doing.
"Heh, I guess you’re right, little Missy. But that’s still not an excuse..."
Patting Lillian on the shoulder, Viesta moved and situated herself at the front of the group and looked over towards Alpha, who stood on the other side of the room.
Viesta shook for a moment, taking in the monster’s crushing Predatory Aura. She unconsciously imagined several scenarios of her death caused by its claws.
But instead of cowering, Viesta remained steadfast with a small smile of confidence as she continued to stand with her back straight, unwilling to look bad in front of her junior.
With a lasso held in her right hand and a powerful revolver in her left, she spoke in an inspiring manner, "To face anything that you can’t take on by yourself, you will need to rely on those capable enough to shoulder it for you; regardless of the situation."
Viesta then went silent and looked around, noting how all of the Barrel Moles beside the Alpha had now either been crushed or escaped.
"Although, I do have to give it to you all, you guys had cleared up the other variables quite nicely~..."
Lillian, who heard this, smiled slightly as she found her plan had truly worked. She then glanced to the side and found a Millis’s hand patting her shoulder.
Lillian raised an eyebrow and found the Heroine smiling at her slightly. Lillian wondered the reason why for a split second, but nodded back in response as she prepared for another round with the Alpha.
Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Viesta and Millis, Lillian looked forward, staring into the multiple eyes of the Alpha across the nursery.
She then took a brief glance back and found Brexten and the twins slowly inching their way back through the exit of the nursery. This left Lillian to scowl and sneer at them.
However...
She couldn’t help but feel that her brief thought of saving them wasn’t in vain. She didn’t regret thinking about saving them.
Sighing at the sight of their escape, Lillian watched as Millis stretched her body and Viesta adjusted the hat on her head.
Seeing this line-up, Lillian felt a "tad-bit" more confident.
And with that same confidence, she looked across the gaping hole in the ground and into the many eyes of the Alpha, who seethed at the sight of both them and at its deceased kin.
Lillian gave a cocky grin and muttered inside her mind, ’Time for round 3...’
