CHAPTER 196: QUESTIONABLE ORIGINS

"What pack are you from?"

Hearing Lyla’s question, Felix stirred uncomfortably in his seat. Of course, he knew that this question would be asked sooner or later, with how much werewolves cared about the packs, it was inevitable... But at the same time, it was one of the most uncomfortable questions he could have been asked.

Because the moment he admitted that he was a rogue, all those Omegas would start looking down on him.

Which could be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on how they reacted to it. If they thought that since Felix was a rogue, it was less likely he would become Kade’s mate, then that would be good - they would have less of a reason to be jealous then, and might leave him alone. But there was a chance that they might do the opposite and become even more jealous, since despite his lowly status, Felix had still managed to attract Kade’s attention...

Both options were possible, and Felix had no clue which one it would be. Well, not like knowing it would change anything...

Should he say that he was from the Moonhill Pack, then? But once he did, those Omegas would surely look for any information about him that they could find. And his status was probably still recorded as ’missing’... Then again, even if he didn’t tell, wouldn’t they find out the truth sooner or later anyway?

He should have discussed it with Kade beforehand. Now that he thought about it, he really wasn’t prepared for this situation, not at all! He glanced to his right, trying to catch Kade’s eyes...

Only to realize that the Alpha was already staring at him with a big smile on his face. It seemed that he was waiting for Felix to ask him for help. And the moment Felix had done it (kind of, if you can call that anxious glance ’asking for help’), he announced proudly,

"He’s from the Bloodmoon Pack, of course!"

...It was one way to answer that tricky question, that’s for sure.

A very... unexplanatory way. And perhaps a bit controversial one. Since when did the Bloodmoon Pack start accepting random wolves as their pack members? Even if Felix had given birth to Kade’s pup (or so it was believed), he hadn’t become Kade’s mate and married into the pack, so it was too early to say he was from the Bloodmoon Pack!

And the Omegas naturally picked up on this as well. Some of the slower ones were still puzzled, but the sharper ones realized that there was something suspicious about it.

One of those Omegas was Lyla. "Oh, from one of the side branches?" she asked, feigning polite curiosity.

Kade, however, shook his head in response. "No, from the main branch, of course!"

Now that was unbelievable. How many Omegas were in the pack? Well, it was a massive supreme pack, so a lot, of course. But, when taking into consideration only male Omegas around their age, the numbers dwindled significantly. Lyla couldn’t exactly say she remembered them all - because why would she? Her family was high in the hierarchy, there was no need for her to pay too much attention to the low-ranking pack members - she would have seen all of them at some point. A dull, unassuming Omega might have been forgotten by her, but not someone so beautiful, and with such unique eyes!

Lyla’s eyes narrowed, as she focused on the golden-eyed Omega in front of her.

Felix wasn’t from the Bloodmoon Pack, she was certain of it. If Young Master Kade insisted that he was... Then that must have meant his origins were... complicated, to put it nicely. Either he was from an unfriendly pack, or a rogue. Eventually, a small-sized, insignificant pack was also possible.

She didn’t question further, though. Even though she knew that the story didn’t add up... It wouldn’t do her any good to question Kade. She might not necessarily get in trouble for it, but she would get on the Alpha’s bad side. And it simply wasn’t worth it.

So, she just smiled. "Ah, is that so?"

"Yes, of course!" Kade confirmed.

After which, the table went silent for a while. The conversation had died, and none of the Omegas knew quite what to say next. They just nibbled on their cold food, pretending to eat, as they cast furtive glances at Felix and Kade...

Eventually, a male Omega sitting on Lyla’s left was the one to break the awkward silence. "You said your pup’s name is Vivi?" he asked, glancing at the pup resting in the baby basket. "How old is she?"

As if on clue, Vivi, who had been resting peacefully until now, suddenly woke up and started crying.

Well, it was honestly rather surprising that she had been able to sleep until now. Aside from all the walking around and the clamor, they were surrounded by so many different smells wafting in the air... And not such the smell of the food, but also the pheromones. Ever since Kade had entered the dining room, all the Omegas present started releasing their pheromones. They were all trying to be very subtle about it... But no matter how ’subtle’ each scent was, when so many scents combined, they created a suffocating mix. Even Felix was uncomfortable, barely holding himself back from scrunching his nose, let alone a little pup like Vivi, who wasn’t used to encountering pheromones, besides Felix’s, Remi’s, and Kade’s!

"I need to go feed my daughter!" Felix shot up from his seat. Truly, Vivi had such impeccable timing! At least this time. Felix was hoping he would be able to escape this situation for a while now. While he had expected that eating breakfast in the dining hall wouldn’t exactly be comfortable... All those stares had surpassed his expectations! Back at the Moonhill Pack, he was more often ignored, so he was used to the opposite of what had happened here... And adjusting to his environment might be more challenging than he already thought.

So, before anyone could do anything to stop him, he grabbed his daughter, and dipped out of the dining room, leaving Kade alone with the pack of Omegas, and their unfinished breakfast.

It shouldn’t be anything new for the Alpha, so he would surely deal with it just fine, right?
