I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 250: Golden Shield
CHAPTER 250: GOLDEN SHIELD
For the next couple of weeks, Felix’s life was peaceful and quiet. The most peaceful and quiet that it had ever been since he had come to the Bloodmoon Pack. No one came to bother him or anything. Lyla straight out avoided him, to the point that Felix wouldn’t be surprised if he were to hear that she didn’t leave her room even for the meals - he hadn’t seen even the shadow of the woman anywhere, not even passing her on the hallways, or running into each other in the dining room. Or, it could also be that she had other people spy on him and constantly update her on his location. Otherwise, it would be just too odd not to even pass each other by in so long, when they were both living in the main mansion.
The others weren’t avoiding him like her, but their attitudes clearly had changed. They were much more polite towards Felix, bowing their heads in greeting when he passed, and calling him ’Young Master’. They also no longer whispered in his presence, not about him, and not about anything else - they didn’t want to appear suspicious by gossiping in hushed whispers. Thus, whenever he was around, they had the most boring conversations, all spoken at a normal level. Not too loud, as not to annoy the people around them (Felix), but not too quiet, so as the people around them (Felix) wouldn’t think they were talking about something inappropriate (or about Felix). It was mostly the young Omegas and the female Betas who had experienced this sudden change, but there was a general shift in the attitude towards Felix in other pack members as well, especially of the younger generation.
And it was all because Felix had won the table tennis tournament for the Omegas that Lyla had organized.
Well, alright, maybe it wasn’t exactly because of his victory. It was just table tennis, no one really cared. If it was hunting, then that would have earned Felix more respect, but for the pack members, table tennis was just a recreational game. It’s not like any of them were interested in pursuing a career in human sports or anything.
The real reason was a shiny, golden card peeking out of Felix’s pocket.
The favor voucher that Felix was allowed to use on anybody. Even the leader, the Luna, and the elders, although in that case, there would be far more restrictions as to what Felix wasn’t allowed to ask for. But the voucher had been officially approved by Lorelei after the tournament, so it was now the real deal.
And just so that no one would forget about its existence, Felix made sure to carry it around at all times, sticking out of his pocket, and almost making people around him flinch and squint as they saw its golden shine. It was a constant reminder that at any moment, Felix could pull it out, and use it on them if they even looked at him wrong. There were seven slots, after all, so it’s not like Felix had to be particularly careful with using it!
And thanks to that, Felix’s life was finally more or less like he wanted it to be. He spent most of his days playing with Vivi or in his pottery workshop, usually accompanied by Remi, and often spending some time with Kade, Cael and Fen in the evenings. It was kind of... nice. Although he still missed the quietness of his house in Silverfall, he could go on like that for a long time, until he finally figured out what he wanted to do. With the favor voucher, it was possible.
...Or so he thought.
It was around six weeks after the tournament. The weather was nice, and Felix was strolling through the garden with Vivi, enjoying the fresh air. When all of a sudden, he noticed another person not far away from him. It was a female Omega around his age.
Of course, that wouldn’t be anything odd on its own. A lot of pack members liked to go for a stroll, especially the Omegas, who didn’t have to train or hunt, so they had fewer physical activities on their ’schedule’ (if they even had any schedule in the first place). But the Omega’s behavior was just odd. She was shifty, looking around frantically, as if she were afraid of being watched...
Well, it wasn’t Felix’s problem. He fully intended to ignore the Omega...
But she approached him first.
"Young Master Felix," she greeted him, fiddling with her hands and still glancing around.
Felix nodded his head at her, and was about to walk away. Before he could, though, she spoke again,
"Have you decided who you are going to use your voucher on?"
Felix almost rolled his eyes. So that’s what it was all about. He recognized the Omega. Her name was Sophie, and she was one of the Omegas who often hovered around Lyla. Did Lyla send her here to feel him out, because she was getting nervous?
"I haven’t decided yet," he said, wanting to end this pointless conversation.
He had no plans to use the voucher at all, not unless someone were to push him too far. Then, he might use one slot to teach them a lesson, and to show everyone else not to mess with him. But other than that, he was only using the empty slots as a shield, and wanted to keep on doing it until he finally decided to leave the Bloodmoon Pack...
But Sophie wasn’t done. As Felix turned around to walk away, she said, "Oh, I was just curious... Because it’s been six weeks already... And the expiration date..."
Felix couldn’t help but stop in his tracks, turning back to look at the woman. "The expiration date?"
"The voucher’s expiration date."
The voucher... had an expiration date? Lyla hadn’t mentioned anything about it! Felix quickly pulled the golden card from his pocket, flipping it open...
And there it was. At the very bottom, there was a date.
An expiration date, after which the voucher would no longer be valid.
