CHAPTER 263: SNOW WHITE WOLF

Generally, werewolves had the same fur color in their wolf form as their hair color in their human form. The shade could differ a bit, especially in werewolves with blond or red hair, but the discrepancy was never too big. Thus, it was to be expected that Cael in his wolf form would have white fur.

But Felix still couldn’t help but be a bit surprised. White fur among werewolves was extremely rare. Snow white fur and clear sky blue eyes were associated with the Frost Lake Pack, another one of the supreme packs. And even then, they were relatively rare, and a symbol of status...

Cael had high status. Although Felix still didn’t know the details - he hadn’t even tried to learn, as it was none of his business, and honestly, the less he knew about the Bloodmoon Pack’s affairs, the better it would be for him, thinking long term. He only cared about things that affected him - the Omega WAS referred to as a ’Young Master’, which meant that he was very high in the ranking, probably only just below Kade among the wolves of their generation.

Except that they were in the Bloodmoon Pack, not the Frost Lake Pack. So, Felix had thought that perhaps he was mistaken. Inter-pack marriages did happen, but rarely among the high-ranking members of the supreme packs since it could disturb the balance...

"Is there something the matter?" All of a sudden, Cael shifted back to his human form. "Do you want me to leave you alone, or...?"

"Ah." Felix blinked, snapping out of it. Only now did he realize that he had been just standing in place, staring at Cael’s wolf form, shirtless, and with his hands on his pants’ button. "S-sorry, I just spaced out a bit. I didn’t sleep well last night..."

That was a lie. He slept extremely well, actually, despite having a lot on his mind. It was all thanks to Remi’s soothing jasmine pheromones, possibly mixed with some spell, that calmed him down, and allowed him to sleep peacefully the whole night.

"Hmm," Cael hummed lightly, leaning against the lockers, not even the slightest bit embarrassed about being naked. He observed Felix’s face, as the younger Omega struggled with his pants... "Are you curious about my wolf form?" he asked, taking Felix by surprise once again.

"H-huh?"

"My Alpha grandmother is from the Frost Lake Pack," Cael explained, without being asked.

"Ah..." Felix didn’t really know what to say in response. Cael’s explanation didn’t explain all that much, and actually brought up even more questions. If the grandmother from the Frost Lake Pack was an Alpha, why did she marry into the Bloodmoon Pack, instead of the other way around? Who was the Omega parent that Cael and Fen had such high status in the Bloodmoon Pack? It was two generations ago, so it was understandable that Felix hadn’t heard about it, but it must have been quite a big deal at the time...

Felix bit his lip, hesitating. To be honest, he was kind of curious, even though it was none of his business. But he didn’t know if it was appropriate to ask...

"I can tell you the story, if you want," Cael said, seeing Felix’s hesitation. "But..." he glanced at his own naked body, "Perhaps now is not the best moment."

Of course, they could always both get dressed and sit down to have a chat instead of going into the forest, but since Cael hadn’t mentioned it, Felix didn’t bring it up either. It could have come off as him trying to push Cael to talk about his private, family matters, and that was the last thing Felix wanted.

So, he only nodded his head in agreement. "Right. Let’s go out now."

Then, he pulled his pants together with boxers, quickly folded it twice and stuffed in the locker, before finally transforming into his wolf form. Cael led them to the back door, pressing the button to open the sliding door.

And just like that, they were out of the pack house. They walked out slowly, their paws stepping on the beaten ground...

Immediately, Felix could feel eyes on the back of his neck. He lifted his head, following the direction the feeling came from, only to spot a little watchtower. There, in the window, there were two guards, staring straight at him.

Well, that was to be expected. Since that was one of the entrances to the pack house, naturally it had to be guarded 24/7. And Felix was bound to attract the guards’ attention. The Bloodmoon Pack’s members were watching him all the time, no matter what he did, often not even trying to hide it well, and it was the first time he had shown his wolf form since coming here, so it was understandable that the guards would be particularly curious.

And it’s not like there wasn’t much to look at. His wolf form wasn’t small, at least for an Omega, and it was quite beautiful, Felix was well aware of it. Especially on a sunny day like that, when his golden brown fur shone in the sun. However...

Next to Cael, he must have looked rather ordinary. His golden brown fur might have been pretty, but it couldn’t possibly compare to Cael’s snow white fur, which stood out in the green forest, beautiful, clean, and pristine. He might have been strong and relatively big (for an Omega), but he still couldn’t compare to Cael’s majestic form, which was about as powerful as an Omega could get. When put together side by side, honestly, there wasn’t even any point in comparing the two of them. That’s surely what the guards were thinking...

But Felix didn’t care. He just briefly met their eyes, then turned his gaze away without any interest, and followed Cael, leaving the pack house behind.

Even if he wasn’t as eye-catching as Cael, he was still beautiful. He had confidence in his looks. And he wasn’t envious at all. Maybe about Cael’s height a little bit... But other than that, he was fine. He was glad that he didn’t stand out so much.

Cael led the way, as they moved deeper into the forest. First, they walked at a casual pace, but once the pack house’s walls disappeared behind the trees, they gradually increased the pace, switching into a run. Not a mad chase, but just a comfortable, refreshing jog. A type of run you would do just for the sake of enjoyment, rather with any specific purpose. Cael was the one who dictated the speed, as he was the one who remained in the lead - for no other reason but the fact that he knew the terrain, while Felix didn’t - but the pace he chose suited Felix perfectly. His paws hit the ground rhythmically, his heartbeat increasing a bit, as the wind ruffled his fur...

When all of a sudden, his nose picked on a scent that had no place being there. Or, two scents, to be precise. They weren’t the smells of the forest plants or mushrooms, nor of any animals that lived there. Not exactly. One of them was a familiar, seductive sandalwood fragrance, while the other was a nutty scent with a hint of roasty bitterness, just as familiar, although far less pleasant. Not necessarily because the fragrance itself wasn’t good, but rather because of the association.

It was Wilder Embermane’s scent. While the former was, of course, the scent of Kade’s pheromones.

It seemed that Felix and Cael weren’t the only ones who had gone out to the forest that day.

Felix’s paws faltered, and he quickly came to a stop. A few steps ahead of him, Cael also paused. He must have noticed the scents as well, and recognized it, at least Kade’s sandalwood pheromones... Perhaps he had even expected it, as he didn’t look too surprised.

Maybe that was even the reason why he had brought Felix here in the first place.

Felix glanced at Cael. He couldn’t read the man at all. Still, he doubted that it was some sort of crazy coincidence...

It was fine, though. If Kade had brought Wilder to the forest alone, it was probably to have a talk. And since it must have concerned Felix, Felix would gladly eavesdrop on them... If there was anything he was unhappy about, then that was the fact that Kade hadn’t mentioned it to him beforehand. And that Cael just asked him to ’go for a run’, rather than openly say what was up.

But it was hardly a reason to complain. He exchanged glances with Cael to ensure that they were both on the same page, and they both nodded.

They were going to follow the trail.

...Of course, after preparing first. Kade and Wilder were also werewolves, and while Kade might be willing to ignore their eavesdropping, Wilder would not. So, instead of following the scent, Cael gestured with his head in a different direction.

It seemed that he already had a plan in mind.
