CHAPTER 266: REMEDY TO THE MYSTERIOUS CONDITION

...What?

Felix frowned, his whole body tensing up, as he stirred anxiously, struggling to stay still. He couldn’t quite wrap his head around what his father was saying... Or rather, he was struggling to figure out how much was the truth, and how much was just a story told to Kade to coax him into letting Felix go without too much of a fuss.

So his father knew what his mother’s condition was? Since when? Was it something he had found out during his travels, or had he always been aware of what was wrong with her health?

And why bother leaving the pack to go search for the remedy, when Felix’s mother had long been gone at that point? For Felix? But Felix had also...

"I appreciate your concern, but Felix is doing well. Whatever condition he used to suffer from as a child, it doesn’t affect him anymore," Kade said slowly, trying his best to maintain his polite but firm facade. There was an uncertainty in his voice that was still slipping through, though, and it didn’t escape Wilder’s attention.

"He might be fine at the moment, but there’s no guarantee that his condition won’t deteriorate in the future. His mother’s health also used to fluctuate... What they were suffering from is no simple illness," he said, increasing Kade’s concerns. And, as if it wasn’t enough, he added, "Besides, while Felix himself might be doing well at the moment, Vivian is a sickly pup, isn’t she? It is likely that she has inherited the same condition Felix and his mother had..."

Felix momentarily froze, as if struck by lightning. If he were in his human form, he would undoubtedly turn deathly pale.

He... didn’t think about it. Aside from the fact that Vivi had been born prematurely, she had never had any health issues, quite the opposite, she was quite strong for her age. And since he had never been diagnosed with any illness - even as a pup, he had been simply called ’weak’, that’s all - he thought that they were both going to be fine. But if there truly was some mystery illness coming from his mother’s side of the family... If he had it, it would already be bad enough, since he might have a relapse in the future and pass away early, leaving Vivi behind, but if he made Vivi inherit it on top of it all... That was something he didn’t even want to think about.

But he had to. Because waiting and hoping for the best wasn’t an option. He had to do something about it before it came to it...

"...Alright. Let’s say that they truly suffer from this... ’no simple illness’," Kade spoke up in the distance, carefully picking his words. "I still don’t understand why Felix has to return to the Moonhill Pack. If you have already found the remedy, why can’t he just receive the treatment in the Bloodmoon Pack?"

"I’m afraid I can’t tell you that. This is the Moonhill Pack’s confidential information," Wilder instantly shot him down.

"Felix is my future mate, and the mother of my pup. I believe I have the right to know." Kade’s voice sounded more and more strained with each word, as if he were speaking through clenched teeth.

"I understand your position, but I still can’t reveal anything to you, as it doesn’t just concern Felix..."

Felix scratched the damp ground with his claws, growing annoyed.

Yeah, it also concerned the whole Winterfell family.

Out of whom Felix and Vivi were the only living descendants!

Kade didn’t know, or simply didn’t think about this argument, though. He simply stayed quiet for a moment, before asking, "Are you going to put Felix and Vivi’s health at risk because you’re reluctant to reveal any alleged confidential information about MY future mate and MY pup to me?"

"We still don’t know if Felix will ever become your mate, Young Master Kade," Wilder corrected him calmly. "And I would like to point out that you’re the one putting their lives at risk, refusing to send them to the Moonhill Pack, where they would be able to receive proper treatment."

CRACK!

Something broke in the distance, followed by a loud thud. It seemed that Kade had finally lost his cool, and ended up breaking something... Possibly a branch, or even a whole tree.

Well, it was understandable. Felix also bared his teeth and let out a low growl, his fur standing on its ends on his back. He couldn’t stand listening to his father any longer.

It was obviously just an excuse. Confidential information or not, it wasn’t that Wilder couldn’t tell Kade about it, he just didn’t want to. He wanted to use it to bring Felix back to the Moonhill Pack, even if that might potentially put them at risk if Kade still refused to let them go, no matter what. And the way he spun it around to make Kade look like the bad guy? Absolutely detestable!

Felix scratched the ground a few times, before taking a step forward. He no longer cared that he would have to show up in front of Kade and his father naked if he wanted to interject into their conversation. He just had to speak his mind...

Before he could make more than two steps forward, though, another wolf blocked his way.

Cael.

Honestly, Felix had completely forgotten that the Omega was there with him... And seeing him suddenly block him made his heart stop for a moment.

Although Cael was one of Kade’s two best friends and close confidants, Felix didn’t quite know how to feel about him overhearing Wilder and Kade’s conversation. He was fine with it before, but now, with everything that the two Alphas had talked about...

Still, what was done was done. He made a move to pass Cael by, but the Omega just blocked his way again, shaking his head. ’No, you can’t go to them now,’ his eyes seemed to say.

They had stayed in hiding for so long, it was hardly the right time to reveal themselves.

Felix hesitated. He still was eager to go, but...

Perhaps Cael was right. He took a deep breath, and followed after Cael, who was gesturing at him to let him know it was time to leave.

And just in time, because they barely walked a few steps, before they heard Wilder’s voice coming from far behind them,

"I don’t see any point in continuing this discussion right now. We should return to the pack house."
