CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45: OBEY

"Zhizhi?" Fu Yinli’s voice came through the phone’s speaker.

Su Lingzhi replied, "It’s me, this number belongs to Xiaoxi."

"Where are you hurt?"

"Optic nerve, the doctor says the vision can be restored in at least two months."

"Does it hurt?"

"It’s alright now." Not wanting to seem too delicate, nor let him worry too much.

But, the moment her voice fell, there was a long silence on the other end.

Su Lingzhi’s heart cooled down inch by inch until his voice sounded again.

"Zhizhi, wait for me for another half a month, I’ll come back to see you," Fu Yinli’s voice was heavy, his brows furrowed tightly as he took a hard drag on his cigarette, unable to quell his inner frustration.

At this moment, it was pouring rain in England, and he stood atop an office building.

He paused the meeting upon receiving a call from Housekeeper Zhao and returned to the office to confirm the situation.

Upon hearing about her accident, despite his frustration, it was not yet time for him to return, and it had nothing to do with the billion-dollar project.

Su Lingzhi’s face fell, "What if I say I can’t wait?"

The line went silent again, a rush of sourness filled her nose, and her headache intensified with her fluctuating emotions.

"It’s not that I need your care, I just hope that when something happens to me, you’d be by my side immediately," Su Lingzhi said calmly after a moment of silence. "Perhaps I’m not as important to you as your career."

She tried to make her tone sound calm because she didn’t want to seem overly vulnerable in such matters.

It felt as though she discovered something, realizing her boyfriend didn’t like her as much as she imagined, causing a sense of disappointment.

"Yinli, I won’t force you, if you’re busy, it doesn’t matter if you come back or not, just hang up."

The voice from the other end said, "I’ll arrange someone to care for you until I return, alright?"

"I said I don’t need anyone’s care."

"Be good."

With a simple "be good," he managed to dismiss her, and the pent-up sorrow in Su Lingzhi’s heart surged like a flood breakout.

Zhuang Xiaoxi peered through the transparent window, sensing something was wrong, and hurriedly opened the door to rush in.

"Zhizhi, what’s wrong with you?"

At the same time, Su Lingzhi groped around, hung up the phone, and wiped her tears away with her hand.

Noticing something was off about her face, Zhuang Xiaoxi furrowed her brow and quickly called the doctor over.

After injecting a sedative, the doctor reprimanded Zhuang Xiaoxi, "How are you taking care of the patient? Didn’t we remind you that the patient shouldn’t be subjected to any stimulation in her current condition?"

Zhuang Xiaoxi looked remorseful, "I’ll be more careful."

The doctor watched her cautiously, "What is your relation to the patient?"

"I’m her best friend, sorry, I didn’t watch over her just now, I’ll make sure she won’t touch the phone again."

Seeing her sincere attitude, the doctor eased his vigilance, "Be more careful from now on."

Zhuang Xiaoxi nodded quickly, "Alright."

After sending the doctor off, Zhuang Xiaoxi felt a bit relieved and looked worriedly at the still figure on the bed.

Knowing it wasn’t her fault, but that phone call had triggered Zhizhi’s emotional breakdown, she decided to wait until Zhizhi woke up to discuss it.

An hour later, there was a knock on the door.

Zhuang Xiaoxi rose in puzzlement and went out.

A man in a suit accompanied by a doctor in a white coat and a female nurse appeared at the door.

"Who are you?"

The man introduced himself, "My surname is Shao, a friend of Fu Yinli, and this is an ophthalmologist..."

Mentioning Fu Yinli, Zhuang Xiaoxi didn’t even let him finish and said "get out," decisively shutting the door on them.

Shao Ming’s expression froze, a faint, indifferent smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

He turned to glance at the doctor he had brought along and said, "Wait for me here for a moment, I’ll go see the attending physician."

Later, he made another call to Fu Yinli, detailing Su Lingzhi’s condition to him.

"Now her friend won’t let us in." Shao Ming chuckled, sighing, "This is the first time a woman told me to get out, tell me, what should I do with them?"

"Wait outside the door, contact me with any developments, there will be benefits for you."

Shao Ming quipped, "When did you start caring so much about a woman?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the other end hung up.

... Shao Ming was speechless for a moment, and didn’t pursue the matter further.

Returning to the ward, he happened to bump into a suddenly arriving man, who also had brought a nurse.

The two parties sized each other up for a moment.

Shao Ming spoke first, "President Jiang, visiting Beijing for leisure? What’s this?"

Jiang Chenglin asked in confusion, "Are you here to see Lingzhi?"

"Am I not allowed?"

Jiang Chenglin remained silent, brought the nurse inside, closed the door, and isolated them outside.

Shao Ming’s face darkened a bit, he called back the doctor and nurse he had brought, staying outside alone.

Inside, Zhuang Xiaoxi saw someone change clothes and return, momentarily unsure whether to make room or not.

Jiang Chenglin glanced at the person lying on the bed, "Asleep again?"

Zhuang Xiaoxi replied truthfully, "Her emotional fluctuation was quite strong, the doctor gave her a sedative."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Chenglin frowned slightly, "What is her boyfriend’s name?"

As soon as he said that, Zhuang Xiaoxi was momentarily speechless, unsure whether to tell him.

But thinking carefully, about Zhizhi’s boyfriend’s identity, she only knew a name, not his family background.

Noting her hesitation, Jiang Chenglin didn’t press further, but continued to ask, "Does she know the people outside?"

Zhuang Xiaoxi shook her head, "I don’t know."

Unable to get any information, Jiang Chenglin stopped asking, placing two dinners on the table, "Have dinner first."

...

Soon after, Du Qin and Su Yao arrived together.

Upon seeing the two of them, Shao Ming’s face registered a hint of surprise, politely rising from the cold seat outside, "Uncle Su, Auntie."

Su Yao was perplexed, "Shao Ming? Do you know Zhizhi?"

Honestly, he hadn’t even met her, so how could he know her?

He knew Su Yao had a daughter but had never seen her, nor heard anything about her attending any events, didn’t expect Fu Yinli’s girlfriend to be the Su family’s only daughter.

Shao Ming replied, "I’m here on behalf of a friend to visit Miss Su."

"And your friend is?"

"Someone from the Fu Family."

"The Fu Family?" Both Su Yao and Du Qin were taken aback.

Shao Ming nodded, "He’s currently abroad and can’t come back right away, so he asked me to come and help take care of Miss Su."

Upon hearing abroad, Du Qin had a guess in her heart, "Since you’ve seen her, you can leave first, Zhizhi’s fiancé is taking care of her, nothing will happen."

"Fiancé?" Shao Ming looked astonished, asking, "Are you referring to Jiang Chenglin?"

Du Qin nodded, "Yes, have you met him?"
