CHAPTER 69: NO ROOM FOR FAILURE!

Chapter 69: No Room For Failure!

A devil’s roar wasn’t like a human’s shout.

Its reach was phenomenal, and for that very reason, Ken and Darek used it as a signal.

If Darek were to hear anything strange, or in this case, a roar, he should act.

Thus, the young man, fully ready and wearing black clothes, left through his room’s window and, with practiced technique, found his way to the second floor from outside.

He wasn’t going to give the doctor any chance, nor risk being found out.

He would take things slow and trust Ken’s plan to kill the wretched contractor in one fell swoop.

---------

"What a foolish kid." The doctor, in a room of his own, looked through a window, and upon seeing the red fog, shook his head.

In his confidence, he eliminated any chance of the devil’s shout being dangerous for him.

If anything, it was for his own good.

Now that people heard such a scream, their mood would fall down considerably, and in turn, Ken and his group would take even longer.

That is if Ken were to survive tonight.

"Who would have thought the lofty cultivators would be so dumb? Taking on a mission they knew nothing of... a being they know nothing about." The doctor thought of the many interactions he had with Ken and Darek.

The two of them looked utterly clueless, and if they weren’t smart enough to hide the truth, then nothing could save them from being his next victim.

His eyes landed on the corpse on his table.

His intestines were out, and many of his internal organs were taken out and placed on all kinds of containers, of which he had many.

The room was filthy, and it had a strong smell of blood and rotting, but the doctor couldn’t care less.

All kinds of syringes and glass bottles filled with strange liquids sat at hand’s length away from him, and for whatever reason he was experimenting on dying bodies...

Such actions would not be left without consequences.

In his focus, the doctor failed to see the silhouette of Darek, who had opened the door without any noise and was holding on to the wall, slowly climbing up until he was right over the doctor’s head.

His figure was black, and his hands, legs, and knees had special equipment that allowed him to do what he was doing currently.

In Darek’s eyes, the doctor was already dead...

From the moment Ken had told him about who he was... he died in his eyes.

However smart the wretched man could be... he had found himself up against a monster.

The smoothness at which Ken’s plan was unfolding was scary... far scarier than Darek could put his head on.

It was as if the entire situation of the village was between his arms.

As if from the moment they had set foot in here, he was like a puppet master overlooking everything from above.

Every move, every act, every word, and every gaze was calculated.

He directed his enemies, his allies, and even himself as if they were his own limbs.

’S-rank danger? If Ken is S-rank, then I’m not even qualified for G-rank.’ Darek brought his right hand to his belt and took out a bamboo blowgun.

And in a smooth, practiced movement, brought it to his mouth, and blew...

*Fwit* *THUD*

*Thump*

*Slash*

The poison dart hit the doctor right on his neck, but Darek couldn’t take any chances, falling down and breaking the doctor’s head open with a dagger.

Then... he looked out of the window.

’He should be done by now.’

----------

Outside of the village, Ken walked slowly towards the devil, who had unknowingly found itself bound by countless strings to the trees around.

"Human! Let Me Out! Free Me! I Will Kill Her! That Wretched Witch! That Succubus!" The devil’s eyes were still dark, unable to reason or use rationality.

Her focus was all on killing Marwa, but alas, it was too late.

Ken didn’t speak. He had no business speaking to his enemies.

Seeing that the devil hadn’t yet realized that its contractor was dead, he looked it dead in the eyes.

Dark horns longer than a baby’s arm, red hair that fell to its waist, big eyes, a sharp nose and chin, and pronounced lips.

If not for some dark veins going through its now red skin, it would easily pass for a human.

It was still wearing the dark dress it wore the previous day, and Ken couldn’t help but calm down.

So this was a demon? A warrior devil who’s supposedly unimaginably stronger than a human.

Countless cultivators on the late stages of the qi refining realms and even some foundation establishment core disciples died on their hands.

But for Ken... Its intellect wasn’t up to par, its instincts were so-so, and its emotions could easily be used against it.

It... didn’t amount to much.

With a single command from his hand, the devil was sliced into a million parts.

Its previously tough skin and muscles couldn’t even resist the sharp strings at the moment, let alone his chainblades.

With the enemy now dealt with... Ken sat cross-legged right where he was and looked attentively at the scene he had just caused.

His mind wandering away with thoughts.

"Mommy, Daddy! I was so scared!"

"Brother! Uuuuuuuuuh!"

Dawn came, and the entire village was gathered in the center, where Ralf and the young couple who was targeted before him stood.

Normally the devil took the father of the family before moving on to the mother, but occasionally it went for hunters or capable males like Ralf.

Thus, a happy scene like this, where a family won back its warmth, was realized.

Darek looked at everything from the side with Alex and Marwa standing next to him; their demeanor spoke much of their guilt for what happened the previous day.

The scenery in front of them went on for a good hour before, at some point, Ralf and the old village head were able to get out of the gathering to come towards the group.

"Esteemed sirs, we can never be grateful enough for what you’ve done for us." The village head spoke with his shaking cane. His emotions for gaining back his son couldn’t be controlled.

"It is merely our mission, Village Head." Darek watched as Ralf smilingly supported the old man and couldn’t help but think of his grandfather.

"If I may ask, where is esteemed Sir Ken?" The village head then asked the question that Ralf, who didn’t allow himself to speak in front of his father, wanted to raise.

"There he is." Just as Darek wanted to say he didn’t know, he came across the figure of Ken, who was walking slowly towards them.

"Good morning, Village Head." Ken smiled towards the old man and then Ralf, his face radiating warmth, and the two of them nodded.

"Esteemed Sir Ken, I want to personally thank you for what you’ve done." The village head and his son wanted to bow again, but Ken gestured for them to stop.

The two of them continued anyway, and Ken just waited until they were done before he spoke.

"Village Head, we are just doing our job." Ken stated.

Then he looked at his group and back at the village head.

"We’re happy to take care of this matter for you, but we’ll have to travel back right now."
