CHAPTER 73: A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LIBRARIAN!

Chapter 73: A Day in the Life of a Librarian!

The day was passing smoothly and similarly to all previous days.

"Brother Ken, I’m in need of a book about beast anatomy." A girl wearing the white outer sect robe came towards Ken.

"It’s on the upper shelf, the 3rd to the last from the right, Sister Lisa." Ken, who was reading a book on a table right in the middle of the library’s first floor, replied with kind words.

The dark-haired girl, upon hearing these words, smiled brightly and bowed slightly before she went back.

Ken was used to her, as she was one of the disciples who frequented the library since he started working here, and after some time she came to learn of his name and started calling him ’Brother Ken’.

After some time, Ken finished his book and closed it, then he got up to return it to its place while his mind was thinking of several important points he came across while reading.

Just as he was about to put the book, his eyes fell on a male disciple from his batch who was standing and looking at the same shelf he was on, seemingly looking for something.

"Can I help you, fellow disciple?" Ken walked towards him and asked.

"Ah? Oh, it’s you! Fellow disciple Ken, what are you doing here?" The disciple saw Ken and was slightly taken aback, then he asked the question that came to his mind.

"I’m working here." Ken replied calmly, his face not showing any expression, but he was quite amused.

"Oh, you do? I didn’t know." The disciple showed slight surprise, then he remembered Ken’s first question and asked:

"Ah, you told me what I’m looking for? This is the history section? I’m just looking for a book about beastmen. I have this debate with some of my friends, you see? And they were going on about how beastmen used us as slaves and whatnot, but that can’t be right? We’re the ones who use them as slaves; how come they were better than us?" The disciple went on and on, seemingly not wanting to stop, but when his eyes opened for a second to see Ken’s amused face, he stopped.

Ken didn’t talk; he only stretched his hand and took out the book, then, without a word, he opened the book right on the first dozen pages, on a page that spoke of many of the historical facts regarding the beastmen and humans.

"Your friends are right here." Ken handed the open book to the disciple and let him read in surprise.

"What?? They were right? No! I’m going to lose 1 spirit stone! That’s all I managed to save last month!"

As the disciple couldn’t believe what was happening, Ken tapped him on his shoulder and said, "Other people might be disturbed." Making the disciple realize his loud voice.

Once he calmed down, Ken went an extra step and added...

"It’s not wise to take a bet on something you didn’t research about."

"Right..." Feeling the stab of a spirit stone, the disciple was able to take these words easier to his heart.

"Let me leave you with some words that will benefit you." Ken paused for a second before he spoke.

"Don’t believe your thoughts nor the words of someone who hasn’t researched or is speaking from the opposite side until you do your own research and listen to both sides." He said.

"It’s also best if you ask about their sources and proof; if a man makes a claim without valid proof, then they can’t be trusted."

With these words, Ken left the young man and went on with his day, working honestly and in the best way he could.

He was planning on visiting the elder after work and then going back to practice with Spirit Forging and spending the night cultivating.

However, some very eager and happy faces from his seniors reminded him of Adam’s promise, which could possibly change his plans a little.

---------

They had about two to three weeks before the sect starts its selection of the disciple who will go to the secret realm.

He learned from the elder that not only would they be going but also 20 disciples from each of the two batches before them, as well as 25 inner disciples, 5 core disciples, 5 official disciples, 4 outer sect elders, and 1 inner sect elder.

This was the complete information regarding the secret realm.

Some adjustments were made because the core and official disciples weren’t supposed to go, and only 1 outer sect disciple was going, but since the sect made a statement, they went with it.

In any case, Ken believed that there wouldn’t be as many casualties as his first information provided promised.

All in all, it had nothing to do with him; his plans were set, and his goal of subjugating the abomination should be carried out to the best of his abilities, regardless of the outcome.

He simply couldn’t miss out on the benefits.

-------

Once the shift ended and Ken went to the staff room, all seniors, girls and boys, attacked him.

"There is our BOY!" Lu Chansheng was the first to launch himself at Ken, but Ken just dodged slightly and caught him by his shoulder.

"Senior Brother Lu, please don’t make me embarrassed." Ken said while shaking his head internally.

"Aha, ahaha, Junior Brother Ken, I can’t help it." Lu Chansheng laughed awkwardly as he straightened his posture and said.

"We’ve been craving the delicacies in that VIP room for YEARS!" Alissa also had a hard time jumping at Ken in joy.

Ken looked at the other seniors who were also beaming with happiness, looking at each other and then him, but their relationship wasn’t strong, nor were their personalities as lively and childish as Lu and Alissa.

"Ken... you’re really safe." Adam’s voice came from one of the doors inside of the staff room.

The man looked slightly shocked and almost fearful.

Ken looked at him, and his expression, as well as that of everybody else, changed.

They’ve never seen Adam like this...

Ever!
