Chapter 158: Too Late
CHAPTER 158: TOO LATE
They were all confused for a moment, as they didn’t really grasp what she had said. However, there seemed to be some surge of emotion.
Rhea, who seemed to be a hired assassin, was shedding uncontrollable tears in front of them, and Harper... Well, she wasn’t ready to let her go, but she indeed felt something.
"I can’t let you go. You know you are not supposed to," Harper said in a soft tone, and Rhea suddenly flinched at that.
"You don’t get it... My... my sister. She’s gonna die... Maybe... Maybe she’s dead already. But please, I need you to let me go. Please, I beg you," Rhea said, deep in tears as she pleaded.
Harper was clearly finding it hard to show empathy to her words, having known what this lady had done.
The attack on Becky and Camilia.
The massacre at the bank...
She had to make herself stand by the fact that this lady didn’t deserve anything good in life anymore.
She would have killed her back when they ambushed them, but somehow, she ordered the men to spare her life... She didn’t know why, but she knew not killing her didn’t mean she would let her go.
"You are under arrest. You are going to spend the rest of your life in jail," Harper said and stood up.
"Hershel, Paul, make sure she doesn’t leave. I’ll be back in a moment," Harper said as she stepped out of the room.
The two armed security men secured her while the doctor stayed at the side.
...
Harper had to tell Jayden about it.
The truth was that Jayden didn’t even know that the lady was on the island. Harper decided to keep it a secret from them because she feared that Jayden might want to kill her straight up.
For a young lady like that to be among those rugged rascals, Harper thought there must be some reason.
"Hey, are you okay?" Camilia asked as she stepped in.
"Oh, yeah. Where’s Jayden?" Harper asked.
"Uhh, he’s in his room... With Charlotte," Camilia replied with a casual look on her face.
A dark look.
"Oh, doing hot stuff? I get it. Why don’t you join them?" Harper chuckled and asked.
Camilia glared and shook her head after staying silent for a moment.
"I don’t share his bed with another woman," Camilia replied.
"Oh, well..."
Harper smiled and walked over to the room.
She gave Camilia a soft tuck on her head upon passing by her, as both laughed softly, a result of their growing friendship.
When Harper reached the room, she had to knock.
However, she was just about to when the door suddenly opened, and Charlotte was already stepping out of the room.
"Hi..."
With an awkward face, Charlotte greeted before shuffling away.
"Hi, too," Harper shook her head and walked in.
"Hey, you miss me?" Jayden asked after noticing her.
"There’s a small problem," Harper ignored the topic he was bringing and brought hers.
Shirtless, Jayden turned to her with a curious look. He was just feeling high-spirited and was ready to rest, but then Harper said there was a problem?
No matter how she said it, Jayden completely had his jaw dropped when she said that.
"What problem?"
"One of the gang members who attacked Sky Bank... I have her," Harper began.
"She... Uhm. She was among those who attacked Becky and Cammy too, but..."
"What? Thought you got all of them killed?" Jayden asked with his eyes widened.
"I was going to, but I... I had to spare her life. She’s young, and... kinda looked innocent," Harper responded, her face clearly tender as she spoke.
Jayden couldn’t say a word for a moment, and then when he did... He was already getting into action.
"Where is she?"
...
Harper had to take him, not just for him to see her, but to take care of the issue of the suspect wanting to meet up with her sister.
"Jayden, listen to me. You wouldn’t have to kill her, okay?" Harper said.
"I’m not killing anyone," Jayden said, but his face still remained stern.
"Your face looks like you will. I’m trying to tell you not to... I don’t think it would be the best idea," Harper tried to talk him out again.
But the truth was, Jayden didn’t actually want to kill her.
Why would he anyway?
He already heard the news of the four survivors in the bank testifying that it was only the man who had gunned down the whole thirty-six people.
He even heard when they stated that there was a lady who was one of them... That she had shouted at him to stop, and had made them lie on the ground so as not to get killed.
Now, the real thing was that Jayden wanted to see who the lady was...
Not because he would want to acknowledge her for doing what she did...
Of course, who would want to praise an armed robber for teaching the people at the bank how to lie and not get killed?
The real job was to meet up with her, and make her help him capture Sofia.
That was the goal at this point since Poliver was already lost in the dream of waiting for Sofia to come save him.
It didn’t take quite long before they reached the infirmary, as Jayden entered the room.
There, he spotted the pale-skinned lady crying her eyes out as she was strapped to the bed.
Immediately she spotted him, she began to plead again.
"Please, let me go. I need to save my sister before she dies," Rhea begged.
"What’s wrong with your sister?" Jayden hesitated before asking.
Rhea didn’t respond, but just continued to persuade them to let her go.
"I said... What’s wrong with your sister?" Jayden asked again, this time with a rougher tone.
Rhea flinched, but then hesitated before deciding to speak.
"A kidney illness. She would need a transplant to survive. I have to pay the bills before they carry it out, or she’s going to die. You have to let me go," Rhea spoke.
Jayden moved away and turned to Harper. With a confused look on her face, he had to think.
Sure, it would be understandable that he had nothing to do with her family life.
She was to be convicted for her crimes, and even had no right to speak about leaving to save her sister.
That was way too much to ask for, right?
However, after thinking for a moment, Jayden turned back to her and decided to get some details.
"What hospital is she in? The name, the patient room number, what city. And fast," Jayden asked.
Rhea shook her head at once, shivering in frustration.
"No no no... I have to be the one to go. It’s my sister. You..."
"You are a criminal!"
At that point, Jayden suddenly shut her up.
"Do you think we would let you go just because we aren’t directly the police? You should remember that I am the President, and I can have you killed if I want to. Don’t be a bitch of a girl," Jayden shook his head.
After that scolding, Rhea had to give him the details.
"I’ll go with some men," Harper told Jayden.
"No, you don’t have to. You can always send your men," Jayden objected.
Yet, Harper still insisted.
"I’ll have to make my findings and know if she really has a sick sister. Don’t worry, my love... I’ll be fine," Harper said before heading out.
Harper left with four men and headed to Springtown, a city not quite far from the old capital of Nortasia, NorthVille.
They had to locate the place with their GPS, which they did in no time, landing in a safe area and completing the journey by the Orion V they had prepared.
They had to keep safety precautions these days after what happened to Camilia and Becky. Harper knew that, and even if she wasn’t as scared as them, she was still trying to stay safe the very best way she could.
(Super Dive Hospital).
They walked in and headed straight to the doctor’s office.
There, a female doctor welcomed them, as they went into a straight, short conversation.
"We are here to see the patient in Room 117," Harper said.
Doctor Ellyn already recognized her to be one of the ladies of The Core in the Excellence Area at the capital. One of the President’s ladies to be precise.
"I... I do respect your presence, ma’am, but I can remember that Brea had only one sister and family left. That was Rhea, who was here about thirteen days ago," Doctor Ellyn said.
"We have Rhea. She’s... She’s sick, so we came to check up on her sister," Harper said. "She has a kidney illness, so we came to pay for the transplant."
Doctor Ellyn’s face turned faint at that moment, as she fell to her seat.
Harper and the rest got curious, and it was only seeming like one thing...
After staying silent for a while, Doctor Ellyn spoke up.
"Too late..."
"Brea is dead."
