CHAPTER 226: 226. THE ENTRANCE EXAM (2)- UNIQUE GRADE IS TRASH GRADE?
Soon enough, when Theo was finally in front of the academy’s gate, even though it was nighttime now, the sheer size of it made him feel like their castle was nothing.
Both Elias and Clara marveled at it in the same way too.
Though it was still nighttime, so he couldn’t see much of it, as there were tall walls all around and just a big gate with a runic circle made in the middle to look into.
"Let’s go." Theo spoke, and the carriage driver with all the stuff was left inside the carriage before the trio moved toward the gate, specifically to its left side, as there was a smaller gate there too.
Right at the gate, two men in uniforms looked like those of the academy.
Theo saw the same crest that he had seen at the academy’s gate just now.
"Letter of invitation, please," one of the men spoke before Elias could even speak.
Elias handed the letter over, which the guards checked thoroughly. Out of the two, one noticed the crest on Theo’s shoulder — the crest of the Merricks.
"You can enter now. Thank you for your patience." The one to the right spoke with courtesy and handed Elias a key with a number on it and the letter back.
Theo nodded at them in appreciation before Clara went and told the carriage operator that he could go now. Elias and Clara brought out all the luggage and carried them, and Theo took the small carriage of the ant colony with him.
When the trio moved past the men in uniform, they couldn’t help but give confused stares at Theo while he moved a square of soil with him inside the gate.
When he entered, Theo saw that he was inside the building now rather than the large expanse he had seen from the outside.
They kept walking until finally, a board showed the "Temporary accommodation" to the left, and they entered it quickly.
At that moment, what they had taken as a quiet place quickly turned into a bustling one.
There were children everywhere, and when Theo saw the gate they entered, he finally observed the run letters formed on it.
’Soundproofing?’ He thought. Something like this was not in the barony for some reason, so he didn’t know if it even existed.
Many of the children looked at Theo once before they went about talking with each other.
There were all kinds of children inside the hall, but one thing was certain: none of them seemed more than 10 years old.
"The number on our key is 416, young master. I think it will be that way." Elias spoke, but Theo’s attention was on all sorts of beasts just scattered around among the children.
"I have never seen so many beasts at the same place..."
There were beasts of all kinds; some were aerial, and most were on the ground.
Some had a size that looked very big, and Theo spotted a Fire Bear among them, though it was just a cub.
Most of the beasts in the hall were cubs to some extent.
When the other noble children saw Theo staring at them all in a frozen state, one of them inspected him out of curiosity, only to be shocked.
"Hey, this guy is level 5!!!" He screamed while pointing at Theo, making him surprised too.
Almost all the children looked at Theo while talking with each other and kept talking about things.
Theo kept a poker face and started moving.
"Why is he wearing leather armor though? Is he a knight?"
"What will a knight do in a tamer’s school?"
"What’s that block of clay he is carrying?"
"Look at the crest on the armor..."
Murmurs kept coming all around him. Both Elias’s and Clara’s eyes turned cold while they looked around.
This was not a situation they had thought would happen.
Out of a few hundred kids in the hall, a few were sitting in the corner, all wearing Lavich noble clothing.
"That’s definitely Theo Merrick," one of them spoke while caressing the fur of a flying squirrel-type beast in her arms.
"Should I invite him here right now?"
"Don’t do it, the rumors are not good about him... and we don’t need a unique tamer in our ranks, most of them are simply trash."
"Didn’t you see him wearing a sword on his belt? A tamer trying to become a knight? Such a disgrace."
"Hahahaha, you’re right!"
Oblivious about all the conversation going around and the murmurs that Theo decided not to delve into, Elias and Clara finally found the room.
They opened and entered it right away, closed and locked it before Theo even saw the room properly.
"I didn’t expect it to be this much," Theo spoke with a chuckle.
"Young master...." Clara spoke, only to have no words.
"Bunch of annoying 10-year-olds, I will have to make their mouth shut soon," Theo spoke again, only to click his tongue in a bad mood. It was going to take a while to get used to this.
He looked at the room and finally smelled the great fragrance of flowers.
It was a small room with a single bed, a chair, a table with some tea and crockery on it, and a closet to keep the luggage in directly.
Clara went and kept the luggage inside the closet and came back to brew tea for Theo.
"Tomorrow morning are the entrance exams, so I should revise the contents again."
Theo spoke while he sat on the bed. He had no plans of getting out of the room till the exam started, which Clara didn’t like one bit but couldn’t say anything about it.
Soon, he got his books back from the luggage and revised everything till it was time to sleep.
As much as he didn’t like them sleeping on a mattress on the ground, they had no choice.
Clara took her mattress to the other corner of the room away from Elias, which made Elias’s eyebrow twitch in annoyance while Theo laughed at their antics.
While the atmosphere had lightened, the thoughts of the exam were still at the back of everyone’s mind.
Tomorrow was the day that would decide which class he was going to join.
