CHAPTER 339: CHAPTER 5: BASIC LABOR FORCE_2
"The last time we used small bombs from drones, the effect was minimal. This time, we used mechanical dogs to secretly approach from multiple directions and deliver the explosive packages near the target building."
The shelter stored more than a dozen tons of ammonium nitrate, which seemed insignificant as fertilizer but was more than enough for making explosives.
Ammonium nitrate, after a simple preparation and mixed with melted sugar, became a relatively safe improvised explosive. Coupled with a bullet primer or an electronic detonator, the method of detonation was simple and feasible.
Three mechanical dogs set off with explosive packages, one approached the "fortress" head-on to draw Nedved’s attention.
The other two mechanical dogs, like cunning hunters, each carried a half-kilogram explosive package, silently circling from the side and rear.
The amount of explosives wasn’t much, because Lela had mentioned that there were certainly a lot of valuable resources hoarded in Nedved’s "fortress," and it would be too wasteful to blow it up completely.
-----------------
The long-term mental strain and anxiety, like invisible shackles, had already twisted Nedved, who was trapped in the "fortress," to the brink of madness.
When the three mechanical dogs approached from different directions, his taut nerves actually relaxed like a broken string, and a feeling of ruthless relief surged in his heart.
Finally, everything was about to end; for Nedved, the suffering of the apocalypse was coming to a close.
The mechanical dogs, with no need to worry about personnel casualties, moved at a speed far exceeding ordinary infantry, effortlessly passing through the scattered abandoned vehicles to reach the corner of the strange-looking "fortress."
The half-kilogram ammonium nitrate explosive erupted with a muffled roar, instantly blowing open the outer wall of the "fortress," tearing a huge gap, and scattering bricks and planks in all directions, revealing the chaotic living room inside.
As the smoke slightly cleared, a palm-sized miniature drone flew into the room like a nimble hummingbird, beginning to assess the damage caused by the explosion.
The images transmitted back by the drone made the explorers behind the screen stare in astonishment—there was more than one person in this crude fortress!
Nedved was slumped on the living room floor, seemingly stunned by the intense explosion.
From somewhere emerged three women, their clothes in tatters, faces full of fear and tear stains, wailing in hoarse and desperate voices around Nedved.
As the miniature drone buzzed closer, the three women became even more terrified, tearfully waving their hands at the camera, clearly pleading for surrender.
The scene before them clearly indicated that this so-called "fortress" concealed a family.
Nedved was undoubtedly the head of the family; for safety reasons, he was usually the only one to appear, while the women were like frightened quails hiding deep within the ’fortress.’
Chen Rui, after carefully observing the appearances of the three women, turned his head and complained to Zhou Qingfeng, "President Zhou, see what you’ve done to my father-in-law! He just wanted to protect his family; it’s so pitiful!"
Roger also glanced at the surveillance footage and, without saying a word, turned to fetch his medical kit, shouting, "The fight is over! It’s my turn now; it’s time for humanitarian aid!"
Even Marco came over, with a serious expression, stating, "We must actively and promptly persuade surrender to prevent the tragedy from worsening. I’m willing to provide psychological counseling to the captives to reduce their antagonistic emotions."
"Old Ma, hold on a second." Zhou Qingfeng turned his head, looking at Marco with surprise, "It’s understandable for Chen Rui and Roger to get excited, but you’re a fifty-year-old man; why do you want to get involved too?"
Marco straightened his neck and said solemnly, "Didn’t you notice? It’s a family of four! A husband, wife, and two children!
The husband is almost dead; I’m going to comfort the widow, provide some warmth in the apocalypse, to prevent her from acting rashly in her despair. Isn’t that reasonable?"
Reasonable, very reasonable.
Zhou Qingfeng twitched his mouth slightly, sending Lela’s scavenging team to negotiate surrender and conduct a search of Nedved’s family of four to ensure safety.
This marked a complete 180-degree turn of events.
Nedved wasn’t dead; he was just knocked unconscious by the blast wave. As he was carried out of the ’Doomsday Fortress’, he shouted ’surrender’ to Roger, who was giving him first aid, from the stretcher.
"Don’t kill me, all the resources I’ve hoarded are yours."
"I’m a good electrician, and I can do mechanical repairs too. I built the fortress myself; I’m quite capable."
"I’m healthy, really very healthy. Let me get up, and I can show you."
Due to the concussion caused by the shockwave, Mr. Nedved failed to stand up from the stretcher; instead, he bit Roger in his overly tense state, and also began to dry heave.
In the end, a few men went up and forcibly held him down, giving him an injection before he calmed down. As for his family, his forty-something wife and two teenage daughters were crying helplessly nearby.
"It’s okay, it’s just a sedative, let this gentleman sleep for half a day, and he’ll be fine," Zhou Qingfeng said coldly to the wife and daughters, "You’ve been taken in, and you can live normally from now on."
-----------------
The most stubborn ’nail house’ in the small town was decisively cleared by the explorers with a thunderous approach.
Not far away, Omar carefully lay at the edge of his rooftop, witnessing the sudden plume of explosive smoke and the subsequent scene of Nedved’s family leaving the "fortress."
"These outsiders are really swift and decisive in their actions."
