Landing on Her Heart: Mr. Warner, Let's Get Back Together!
Chapter 33: Are You My Dad?
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: ARE YOU MY DAD?
Her tiny hands held her slender legs, head drooping, with dark black hair, her body moving as she sobbed, the cries particularly sorrowful.
For some reason, Elias Warner, who never liked to meddle, halted his steps.
His long and straight legs stood in front of the girl, he half-squatted down, sitting beside her without disdain.
A large and a small figure in the same posture.
Two seconds of silence.
Elias Warner’s voice was low and gentle, "Little one, why are you crying here alone? Where are your mom and dad?"
Luna was dazed from crying, not expecting to hear such a pleasant voice all of a sudden, and in Mandarin, she suddenly looked up, her tear-rimed eyes moist.
The super handsome, super cool man before her looked exactly like the one she had seen on mommy’s phone.
She was stunned.
In a daze, she stretched out her little hand, slowly lifting it, thinking she was dreaming.
The small hand tentatively touched the angular jawbone so close to her.
She murmured, with surprise, "Daddy? Are you daddy?"
The little one began to shed tears again, "Mommy didn’t lie to me, daddy came to see me, you must be the surprise mommy sent, right?!
Luna remembered correctly, mommy had said she was bringing her a surprise this time.
And the biggest surprise she imagined was mommy bringing daddy back to see her.
Unable to hold back the grievance in her heart, Luna threw herself into Elias Warner’s arms, "Daddy, I finally see you, daddy! I thought you didn’t want me anymore, sob... Luna missed you so much!"
This soft little bundle flung herself into Elias Warner’s embrace, as if hitting heavily on his chest.
An inexplicable pang of bitterness made Elias freeze on the spot.
He even forgot to deny it.
Had this little one mistaken him for someone else?
Yes, how could he possibly have such a cute daughter?
Luna, having vented her longing, lifted her gaze from the man’s embrace, "Where’s mommy? Why didn’t mommy come back with you?"
Seeing daddy not speaking, Luna suddenly thought of something, and her eyes shone brighter.
"So mommy said she would be back in two days on purpose to surprise me? She didn’t come, but she sent daddy to me!"
Luna murmured softly, then looked up, with innocent and clear eyes toward Elias Warner, "Daddy, so you were sent by mommy to help me fight monsters, right!"
Monsters?
Elias Warner frowned, a bit unclear about what exactly this little one was on about.
Not knowing how to respond to the little girl before him.
But what kind of parents would be so heartless as to leave such an adorable child unattended at the stairwell?
"Luna! How did you end up here? Auntie has been looking for you for so long, look, this is your favorite long-eared bunny!"
Dr. Flora, having failed to find the stuffed toy in the ward, went to a store to buy a singing long-eared bunny, and hurried back, being scared out of her wits when she found the office empty.
It took her a long while to find her at the main entrance.
Luna?
Hearing this name, Elias Warner’s heart suddenly felt like needles piercing it.
This little girl was called Luna?
His memories seemed to rewind to before.
Back when he wasn’t yet together with Annelise Winter, then Annelise always liked clinging to him, wanting to win his heart, marry him, and have children.
He had once heard in Annelise’s plans for the future, she wanted to give birth to a daughter named Luna for him.
How unexpected it was just a coincidence.
"Thank you, sir, thank you for taking care of the child!" Dr. Flora thanked Elias Warner in Chinese.
Luna clung onto the man’s neck and said to Dr. Flora, "Flora, Flora, this is my daddy! Daddy came to accompany me for surgery! Isn’t daddy handsome?!"
Dr. Flora couldn’t help taking a closer look at Elias Warner, sighing, "Are you really Luna’s daddy?"
The resemblance was striking!
Elias Warner had no way to deny it, handing the child over to the nurse beside him, "Doctor, may I have a word?"
Elias Warner walked with Dr. Flora to the side, explaining, "I’m sorry, Dr. Flora, the child mistook me, I’m not her father, I just saw her crying alone, and wanted to comfort her, but as soon as the child saw me, she said I was her daddy! Seeing how happy she was, I couldn’t bear to refuse."
"Oh, so that’s it. I’m really sorry for the trouble caused to you! Luna has a heart condition, her mom has been working hard in her home country all the time to earn money for her surgery, I’ve never met her dad, Luna is quite pitiful, she really wants her dad to see her."
Dr. Flora sighed, "You do really look alike, it’s no wonder the child mistook you!"
"Indeed, you do look quite alike." Elias Warner couldn’t help but take another look at this adorable little girl.
But how could he possibly have a daughter?
Dr. Flora was concerned after that, troubled, "This little one is having surgery tomorrow, but her mom can’t make it over, she’s really upset... I didn’t expect to meet you! But if we tell her now that you’re not her dad, I’m really afraid..."
With this in mind, Dr. Flora took out her business card and handed it to Elias Warner.
"I know it’s presumptuous, but may I ask if you have the time? Could you not tell her the truth? Give her a bit of strength, or could you stay with her? Until she finishes her surgery?"
Dr. Flora continued, "She rarely gets close to strangers, and I saw she just mistook you for her dad! If you feel it’s difficult, never mind!"
Dr. Flora was truly worried, if Luna didn’t have emotional support for her surgery tomorrow, this mere four-year-old child might not pull through.
For some reason, when Elias Warner saw this child, he felt a sense of familiarity.
An inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Hearing Dr. Flora talk about Luna’s situation, he felt especially heartbroken.
The man’s cool and poised lips lightly parted, and without hesitation, "Alright, I happened to be here visiting friends, and will stay in Breslin for two days, during which, I can continue to accompany this little one, being her daddy, until the surgery succeeds,
After all, the crew will need to stay here for three days.
Though he was helping Luna with just a small act, it seemed to be of great significance to this four-year-old girl.
"I’m really grateful to you for that!" Dr. Flora extended her hand to express her gratitude to Elias Warner.
"You’re welcome, I like this little girl too, there’s an inexplicable sense of connection with her!"
"That’s wonderful!"
"But I need to visit my friend first, I’ll come back later!"
"Alright!"
As Elias Warner was about to leave, Luna clung tightly to his pant leg.
