leaving you bereft
Altar 251
When Willow looked down, she could see the look in Julian’s eyes-gentle and full of lingering
emotion.
But instead of being moved, a sense of sadness arose within her.
She tilted her head slightly, forcing back the tears in her eyes. Her voice was hoarse as she asked, ” Julian, how am I supposed to forgive you? Tell me, how can we still be husband and wife?
“For days and nights, I cried until I had nothing left. My heart was shattered, and I couldn’t even piece it back together. If I hadn’t been so blindly in love with you back then, Grandma would still be alive…”
Willow lowered her gaze, tears glistening in her eyes.
Julian’s heart softened instantly. He was starting to understand Willow’s feelings. She med herself deeply and attributed the biggest mistake to herself, so she couldn’t forgive herself.
With his rough fingertips, he gently wiped her tears. But her skin was so delicate that the corners of her eyes turned red immediately, making her look heartbreakingly fragile.
Julian couldn’t help himself and leaned in to kiss her tender skin, which only made it turn even
redder.
They were so close, and both were trembling all over. Initially, it was only Julian’s one-sided longing, but now, they were both immersed in the memories of the past
In a low, soft voice, he said, “Don’t cry. If the kids see this, they’ll think I bullied you.”
Willow tried to calm herself down, but she was crying so badly at the moment that she couldn’t keep a straight face.
Julian found it rather endearing. He couldn’t help but tease, “You weren’t like this before. Now, you’re such a crybaby.”
Willow ignored him and turned around. At the same time, there was a knock on the door, followed by Landon barreling in.
The moment he stepped inside, he saw Willow’s red eyes, as if she had been crying. He quickly reached out, trying to reach her. “Mommy, I’ll wipe off your tears.”
Willow scooped him up into her arms, burying her face in the crook of his neck. Her voice choked. ” I wasn’t crying I wasn’t.”
Landon’s small arms hugged Willow tightly as he nozzled close to her.
Beside them, Julian’s heart stirred. He quietly slipped on his shirt, buttoning it up with one hand. However, his eyes never left his wife and son.
How he wished this moment couldst forever.
After breakfast, the two dropped the kids off at kindergarten. When they were leaving, they ran into
Patrick in the parking lot outside.
Patrick hade to drop off his daughter. When he saw Willow and Julian walking side by side, a trace of pain flickered in his eyes.
He walked over to Willow and asked, “Can we speak privately for a moment?”
Willow nodded and turned to Julian. “Wait for me in the car.”
In the past, Julian would never have allowed this. But now, he had no right to refuse. All he could do was stay in the car as he watched Willow speak in private with another man.
A short whileter, Willow and Patrick sat across in brightly lit café. Since it was early in the morning, there weren’t that many patrons around, making it perfect for a conversation.
Patrick didn’t waste any time. “Are you nning to remarry him?”
Willow looked down and gently stirred the coffee in her cup. She didn’t tell him the whole truth. After all, the tangled mess between her and Julian wasn’t something that could be put into a few
words.
Since there was no future between Patrick and her, Willow thought there was no reason to talk
about it.
She thought for a moment before speaking, “For the children’s sake, I’ve thought it through. I’ve decided to remarry him.”
She looked up with a hint of moisture in her eyes. “Mr. Sherman, I know you’ve always been good to me. But in the end, rtionshipse down to destiny.
“It just seems that we’re not destined to be with each other.”
