leaving you bereft
Altar 253
By the time Willow woke up, she wasn’t in Radiance Manor, but in the executive lounge in Neb Group’s CEO’s office.
This was her first time here. Even back when she was married to Julian, she had never been here.
The 600-square-foot space was clean and sleek, dominated by shades of ck and grey. This was Julian’s usual style.
Willow sat up and noticed her clothes were gone, reced by a ck dress shirt and men’s athletic shorts, probably something Julian had left here years ago.
The waistband was a little loose, but with the drawstring tied, she could wear them.
Willow didn’t bother wondering who changed her clothes. In any case, she felt much morefortable now, so she didn’t care.
After getting out of bed, she walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window and picked up a photo frame from the shelf beside it.
It was a photo of her and Julian that was taken nearly four years ago. She was pregnant with Landon and Gabrie, and they were sitting on a bench beneath the Ferris wheel.
That day, Julian had passed by on his way to a banquet. Under the twilight, he crouched down in front of her, reaching out to touch her belly.
Although the photo had been taken from a distance their gentle expressions were unmistakable. It was all because of the babies in her womb.
But that night, Willow had lost her grandmother.
Suddenly, the door behind her creaked open, and Julian stepped in.
He whispered, “Esther took this from inside the car She did a great job.”
Willow gently brushed her fingers against the phot. Her expression was calm, and so was her voice. “Julian, I know you’ve done a lot to make amends.
“You sincerely wanted to be a good husband and a good father, but Grandma’s nevering
back.”
Julian’s gaze deepened. At the same time, the lounge door was pushed open, and a familiar voice rang out.
“Julian, how dare you remove my deputy? I need him. Do you expect me to go to Yarrowmere alone?
It wasn’t anyone-it was Dexter.
As soon as Dexter said that, he saw Willow, who was wearing Julian’s shirt and shorts. He knew they were preparing for a child, so were they trying day and night?
A hint of deeper meaning appeared in Dexter’s eyes. He looked at Willow and smiled faintly,” Willow’s here too.”
Willow didn’t bother exining. She wasn’t a young, innocentdy after all, so she didn’t need to justify herself.
Julian wouldn’t either. He simply frowned and said, ‘If you’ve got something to say, do it outside.”
Dexter looked embarrassed and went out first. Julian then looked at Willow and said gently, “Get some rest. I’ll call you when lunch is ready.”
Inside the CEO’s office, only Julian and Dexter remained.
The curtains draped over the floor-to-ceiling windows, blocking out the daylight, making the office dim. Julian loungedzily in his leather chair with a suit jacket draped over his shoulders.
A beam of light struck the tip of his nose, making his entire face appear more sharply contoured.
Dexter leaned on the sofa, quietly observing. Even he had to admit that Julian was ridiculously good -looking. Just a casual nce was enough to leave an impression on a man.
Julian yed with a solid gold lighter, his tone calm. “You didn’te all the way from Yarrowmere just to catch a live show, did you?”
Dexterposed himself and said, “Why did you remove Mr. Lowe? Julian, I don’t have anyone reliable left in Yarrowmere. Do you want me to take office with nothing?”
Julian’s expression softened under the light.
Dexter snorted, “Stop ying tricks. I’m not going to bring up your public disy of affection under broad daylight.”
Julian sat up slightly, opened a drawer, and pulled out a thick stack of personnel files. “This is your new deputy in Yarrowmere, Ms. Sutton. You know her. In fact, she’s more than that.”
