leaving you bereft
Altar 27
That day, for the first time ever, Jeffrey wanted to hold a woman in his arms. It was not out of lust or desire.
Instead, Jeffrey simply wanted to hold Willow, wipe away her tears, and kiss those trembling lips.
While the others remained silent, Jeffrey asked, “Why do you want a divorce?”
The couple standing by the door turned around. Julian looked at his longtime friend with a stony gaze. His voice turned icy. “Do
you know what you’re doing, Jeffrey Gibson? You should go to the hospital and get yourself sobered up bif /byou’re feeling too
drunk.”
Jeffrey rose from his seat slowly.
“I’mpletely sober! I’ve always been! Have you sobered up, Julian? bIf /byou have, you should have realized by now that Willow
doesn’t love you anymore. You can hold onto her for one to two years, but you can’t hold onto her forever.”
Julian scoffed. “She’s still my wife now.i” /i
Jeffrey fell silent.
Natalie, who sat beside him, tugged at his sleeve. She asked cautiously, “Jeffrey, do you like Willow?”
“Mhm,” he responded.
Natalie dropped her ss, and it shattered into pieces on the floor.
Julian and Willow were the only ones in the narrow elevator.
Willow squirmed free from his grip. Her tone was emotionless. “There’s no one else here. You can stop it with the whole loving
couple bact /bnow, Julian.”
She was pressed against the cold elevator wall the next instant.
Julian’s hands roamed her body, from top to bottom. He had never acted this roughly and vulgarly. It was as bif /bJulian was trying to check a personal belonging. Moreoverb, /bthe way he was doing it was rather deprecating.
With bhis /b
build, Julian trapped Willow in his arms. He pushed his face toward hers. Their noses were touching, and Willow
bfelt /bsomething hard…
“When did byou /band bJeffrey /bbe bso /bclose?”
“How bdoes /bthat concern byou/b?”
Julian’s dark eyes bwere /btrained on Willow as if he was trying bto /bscan every inch of her skin.
A short whileter, he snickered. “I should remind you that bJeffrey /bbis /bmy attorney. His job is to make sure you end up penniless.
Are you still going to keep meeting him?”
That was Julian. That was how he really was. He was always blunt and critical.
With her back against the elevator wall, Willow chuckled softly.

She wasughing so much that tears came to her eyes. “Isn’t he carrying out his job because you want him to? Julian, aren’t you the one who wants me to end up penniless?”
Willow tilted her head and said in a mocking tone, “I don’t mind it, actually. I’ve made some good connections these past few years. Even if I’m not getting anypensation after the divorce… As long as I’m willing, I’m sure there are countless men who’ll be interested in making Julian Ziegler’s ex–wife a candidate for their remarriage.”
Julian was exasperated.
He caressed Willow’s soft cheek. His voice was low and husky. “Do you think I’ll ever let you be in bed with another man? Willow, don’t even think about it.”
Willow spat, “You crazy bastard!”
Her words hadpletely set him off. Julian stared at her with a frigid gaze. Then, he pressed the button for the 32nd floor. Willow did not notice that. By the time the elevator door opened, Julian dragged her out of the elevator.
The hotel receptionist spotted the customers and smiled. “Are you looking for a room, sir?”
With one hand gripping Willow’s wrist, Julian pulled out his wallet from his coat pocket. “My ID and credit card are in there. I
want one of your best suites here.”
Willow could not stand it anymore. “You’ve lost your mind, Julian!”
There was a steely look in his eyes. “You think, Mrs. Ziegler?”
The receptionist settled the procedure in an instant. Her hands were shaking a little when she returned the wallet to Julian. She
had recognized the man before her as the Neb Group’s CEO. Thedy was most likely his wife.
“They’ve been married for four years. Yet, they would still spend some nights together at a fancy hotel suite. They’re such a
lovey–dovey couple!” the receptionist thought.
