Legendary FBI Detective
Chapter 782 784: Barbecue, Children, Fugitive
"I didn't expect the beef to taste so good when grilled like this."
Reesi took the last piece of beef off the skewer, eating and exclaiming at the same time:
"Luo An, why haven't you made this kind of barbecue before?"
Luo An just smiled, not saying a word, while Chenier was eating the barbecue and drinking beer, sweating profusely on her forehead. After putting down the beer, she fanned herself continuously:
"This barbecue is really delicious, just too spicy."
"Really? I think it's okay, Luo An didn't add too much chili."
Michelle opened a new bottle of beer and handed it to Chenier, laughing:
"I didn't expect you to be so bad at eating spicy food."
Luo An knew that not many people in the federation could handle spicy food, so he added very little chili, using mainly cumin and fine salt instead; still, Chenier was sweating from the spice.
Luo An took a bottle of milk from Little Jimmy and handed it to Chenier, smiling:
"Drink some milk, it alleviates the spiciness."
"Thank you, but it's okay, I can handle it."
Chenier took the milk and expressed her thanks still not stopping her actions; she felt as if she was poisoned, the more she ate, the spicier it got, but the spicier it became, the more she wanted to eat.
Evelyn had finished the beef skewers in front of her, and seeing that there were still a few in front of Luo An, she felt embarrassed to take them, but Luo An noticed and handed them to her, smiling:
"No worries, enjoying the food is an affirmation of my cooking."
"Thank you."
Evelyn gave a grateful smile and after Reesi also finished her portion of meat skewers, she looked around and seeing some raw beef left, she said:
"Luo An, let's grill some more, these skewers are delicious."
"We can't continue grilling."
Luo An took a sip of beer and waved his hand:
"The skewers were a freebie when I bought something, we don't have many left, they are all used up."
"What?"
Michelle and Chenier immediately looked disappointed upon hearing this, and a hint of regret flashed in Evelyn and Winslow's eyes, Reesi thought for a moment, then patted Evelyn on the shoulder and asked:
"Does that store sell these skewers?"
Evelyn tilted her head and thought carefully, eventually shaking her head:
"The information they sell there is more about water, instant food, and tools needed for emergencies.
They really don't have skewers."
Luo An wasn't surprised; skewers aren't very common in the federation, and it's normal for stores in scenic areas like Yellowstone Park to not have them.
"Alright."
Reesi sighed, was silent for a second, then her eyes suddenly lit up, pointing to some branches not far away:
"What about those branches? Carve them into sticks and skewer the meat, how about that?"
Luo An looked speechless as he put down his beer, asking:
"Do you think there's a reason why stores sell skewers instead of wooden sticks? Don't you think the stores would want to?"
Reesi laughed awkwardly, and Winslow, after thinking for a moment, said:
"The grates on the grill aren't very large, we can cut the meat into smaller pieces, and it should be possible to grill it similar to these skewers."
"That makes sense!"
Before Luo An could respond, Reesi jumped up and pulled Winslow towards the grill, also saying to Evelyn:
"Wait for me a minute, Evelyn, you'll soon get a taste of my cooking skills!"
"OK!"
Evelyn nodded repeatedly, Luo An smiled, found a more comfortable position and continued to eat the barbecue; alongside Chenier and Michelle, the four of them started chatting idly.
At the other side of the table, Winslow's wife Lanita was eating meat and taking care of Little Jimmy, with Mona sitting beside her helping.
The barbecue in front of them was specially made by Luo An without any chili pepper, so Little Jimmy could eat less of it.
However, Mona's mind wasn't on the barbecue; she was quietly discussing child-related issues with Lanita.
"Do you want to have a child with Luo An?"
Mona's words surprised Lanita, and she glanced at Luo An not far away and asked in a low voice:
"You guys aren't married yet?"
"I... don't want to get married."
Due to her parents' divorce and being raised alone by her mother since childhood, Mona developed an indescribable fear of marriage.
Mona didn't want to delve into those matters too much, so she simply answered and switched the topic back to children.
Seeing this, Lanita didn't pry further into Mona's past, merely asking softly:
"Is having a child your idea, or Luo An's?"
"It's my idea."
Mona picked up a napkin to wipe some grease off Little Jimmy's face in Lanita's arms, and smiled:
"I want a child that belongs to me and Luo An."
Lanita's brows slightly furrowed:
"Does Luo An know?"
"He knows... he always respects the decisions I make."
Mona glanced at Luo An not far away, and said:
"That's also why I love him."
Seeing the expression on Mona's face, a flicker of envy passed through Lanita's eyes, imperceptible to most; being experienced, she knew such expressions couldn't be faked.
Suppressing the envy within her, Lanita leaned closer to Mona and whispered:
"So, what you want to ask is how to conceive more conveniently?"
Mona nodded and whispered:
"Both Luo An and I have had medical check-ups, and we are both perfectly healthy.
Luo An and I have never really taken... specific precautions, but there still hasn't been any news after such a long time."
Lanita raised her eyebrows slightly, covered Little Jimmy's ears with her hands, and asked in a low voice:
"What have you and Luo An been like... you know, intimately?"
Mona remained composed but her ears turned red as she quietly answered the other's questions, their conversation growing softer, while Little Jimmy, whose ears were covered, finished his barbecue, yawned, and soon fell asleep.
Meanwhile, Luo An, Evelyn, Chenier, and Michelle were happily chatting, Reesi and Winslow were examining the barbecue, not sure about the quality of the meat, but their bickering never stopped.
"Good evening, everyone!"
Suddenly, a male voice burst forth, instantly silencing the ongoing conversations in the campsite.
Luo An, Mona, Chenier, Michelle all stood up and turned towards the source of the noise, Winslow and Reesi immediately stopped arguing and turned around, even placing their hands behind their backs.
On closer inspection, they saw two men, both in their thirties and Caucasian, wearing police uniforms, though the uniforms were slightly different in style.
"Oh oh oh, don't be alarmed, everyone."
The simultaneous rising of the people in the campsite startled the two white men, who stepped back, took out their badges to show everyone, and the white man on the left said:
"My name is Fres, a police officer from Wyoming; and this is Duarte, a police officer from Montana."
Yellowstone Park spans a vast area, lying at the junction of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
Seeing their badges and hearing their introductions, the people in the campsite breathed a little easier.
The team of agents instinctively looked towards Luo An, Luo An laid down his skewer and extended his hand to the police officers, smiling:
"Good evening, Officer. Working so late, did something urgent happen?"
"Hello."
Fres on the left shook hands with Luo An, and smiled:
"We've been notified that a murderer has recently escaped to the vicinity of Yellowstone Park, we're here to inform the campers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately."
The complexions of the people in the campsite changed slightly, Luo An raised his eyebrows, and asked:
"Officer, could you describe what the murderer looks like and give his name?"
Fres furrowed his brows, about to speak when Luo An pulled out a golden badge from his pocket:
"FBI."
"?!" x2
