CHAPTER 49: I WASN’T EVEN TRYING

Troy’s face still looked as if he had just been told the sun was actually a light bulb. Yeah, it was still that unbelievable processing the possibilities of the supposedly lowest team clearing the level one dungeon on the first try

Not only him, but the whole class was shocked, all they could resort to was that they’re new roommates were probably their anchor.

Yes, we know Jayden still has to keep a low profile, but even if anyone posted that he was a third-generation tamer, that would most likely be the next trending joke. As long as he doesn’t use the elements at the wrong time, he’s fine.

But there’s one thing that Jayden had never played with—his grades, and he wasn’t going to fake some failure just to spare him a spot outside the spotlight.

"Mr Jayden, please do the honours!" The professor said, gesturing at the station of the tests.

Jayden winked at Troy, who was still trying to understand the calculus that was playing before his eyes.

’Don’t you think you’re being too proud?’ Draco asked.

Jayden gritted his teeth, ’You’re right, but don’t blame me, I share emotions with a proud dragon, so expect nothing less.’

Jayden took a deep breath, reminding himself how any cheap mistakes could cost him not only his grades but also his reputation as the Beastless GENIUS.

The platform before him was exactly the same as the level two dungeon trap room. Some traps had vertical markings, others horizontal, some circular and a few larger than the others.

There was no walking to the other side without stepping on a trap except you’re a skilled long-jump athlete.

Jayden took the first step with both feet, stepping on traps with vertical and circular markings simultaneously.

"Why didn’t anything happen?" Troy frowned, tapping his teammates.

Jayden hopped, landing one foot on a trap trigger larger than the others within one second and reset his pace immediately.

Two feet then one foot on a particular set of traps.

"Is he dancing?" Benjamin wiped his eyes as if calling himself to reality, whereas this was reality.

"He’s fucking dancing on traps? The hell is going on?" Troy rasped from the side.

Jayden cleared the first set of traps without triggering a single one of them with the pattern Mr Tony taught him.

Yup, it was fair to call this cheating. But the whole thing was still complicated having to jump on a regular set of traps within a short time frame.

No time to play, Jayden knew that in a real dungeon scene, every tamer would have to race against time, you know.... mana poisoning, and yeah. That was probably one of the criteria the professor was looking out for.

There were six parts demarcated with rocks ahead of him. Jayden used the second path, counting from the left just as the professor had instructed.

Now he was at the next part where eight large hammers with sharp spikes were swaying left and right.

The timing here allowed a two-second free passage every ten seconds. Jayden nodded while studying it, he could blaze through within that time, but that would look too abnormal for a beastless boy.

He waited for the right time and took the first step forward with a straight posture, an inch forward or backwards, and he’ll be torn apart, too fast or too slow? Let’s just say that’s the real brutality.

Each passing of the hammer in front and behind him carried the most terrifying wind but luckily, two... four...eight steps and he was out of the hammer section.

He let out a deep breath; here was the place he could call the final stage.

Ryan and Tyler kept on cheering him from the side,

"That’s it, Jayden. You can do this"

"Yeah, show them what the lowest potential team is made of."

While the rest of the class remained amused, Jay would probably get more crushes and haters after this test.

Even the professor was moved by his raw talent.

Jayden took a stance. The final stage was within a circular net-like fence, and the only way out was the passage where a horned bunny, probably trained not to let anyone out, sat.

Horned bunnies were ranked fourth on the board of earth-manipulating beasts.

These guys were faster, quick reactors with a clear 360-degree vision unlike normal bunnies.

And if you’re asking why bunnies have horns, that’s it’s special adaptation for attacking.

"Let’s see how you’re gonna play dirty tricks this time", Troy snarled, but deep within his tone that uncertainty was already planted.

Jayden smiled, observing the bunny coil its lips for a jump while looking like it was harmlessly sitting.

He moved just an inch, and the horned bunny jumped right for his face, with its horn ahead of it.

If Jayden wanted to show off, he could go get a cup of coffee, drink it and even eructate before dodging the bunny, cuz the beast was damn slow compared to B rank Jayden.

He put on a terrorised face, bending backwards like he was checkmated and even the beast got convinced.

And in the last second, he dodged and ran out through the opposite side just before the door automatically closed, leaving the bunny shut inside.

Ryan and Tyler rushed to hug him, while the other students, most especially Troy, remained utterly speechless.

Natasha and Ella seemed happy for Jayden, while Zoe was caught between being happy and feeling sad.

Yeah, he was cool, and even looked more attractive pulling all those off, but where was the joy when she liked him and couldn’t have him?

She’s been stuck thinking about what she lacked, that she wasn’t good enough, even for a beastless boy.

"That was splendid, Mr Logan", the professor clapped his hands as Jayden and his teammates joined the crowd.

Troy’s every fibre was steaming, "Sir, he clearly used cheap tricks, we all know that."

"Any proof, Tony strictly asked.

"Hmm...sir", Troy stammered a bit, "we all know someone beastless can’t do that.

Mr Tony hissed, "Baseless facts, please, Mr Tyler, you’re up next."
