CHAPTER 72: SEEKING ONLY THE DEMIGODS
Her eyes widened in shock as she could barely follow how fast her opponent had moved. Then quickly she repositioned her body toward Jin, who was returning at full throttle with the intent to bring down his sword in a full vertical swing.
She immediately raised her spear horizontally over her head and toward the incoming blade, but something happened unexpectedly. It was a feint!.
Jin had never intended to attack from that angle, and the moment she put up her defense, his figure immediately blurred and appeared at her side, with one of his blades already piercing her ribs. The truth is, the extra speed granted by Quinn’s ability had put him at a level where even other S-Tiers could not react quickly enough.
Gianna’s eyes bulged as she coughed up blood. "I thought..." she tried to complete her words, tilting her head slowly to look at Jin, who smiled as he pulled his blade out, further intensifying the pain and causing her to bleed out heavily.
Quinn and Felix were engaged in their own battle exchange. She had just used the side of her double edged axe to block the force of his metal fist when he noticed that Gianna had taken the brunt of Jin’s attack.
Instinctively, he abandoned his fight with Quinn, darting to Gianna’s side and catching her just as she was about to fall to the ground. He held her in what felt like a cradle, pressing his hand against the wound in an attempt to stop or slow the bleeding.
Quinn and Jin approached them slowly, with their weapons ready. Quinn then stretched forth her axe toward them. "We didn’t come here to kill humans like us," she said, her voice carrying both threat and mercy. "So get out of here before we change our minds."
Felix’s face contorted somewhere between a growl and a sneer, wishing he could do more than retreat. However, he was in an impossible position, especially as their opposition had just turned this into a two versus one fight by incapacitating his teammate.
Faced with no other option, he lifted Gianna carefully and then launched himself upward in a powerful super jump that carried them both over the fence and outside the facility. With another leap, he took to the skies, maintaining flight as he carried his wounded comrade away from the battlefield.
.....
Zebelon had descended completely, his imposing figure looming over Nacht, whose battered body was driven deep into the cracked earth. The President of the White Hunters lay nearly motionless, struggling to stifle the groans of pain that threatened to escape his lips.
The Quillforte’s eyes radiated with this malevolent intent as he made a sword of pure flame that materialized in his grasp. And without hesitation, he raised the burning blade high above his head, preparing to drive it straight through Nacht’s torso and end this confrontation once and for all.
But in that crucial moment, Nacht’s survival instincts kicked in and in a flash, he teleported away from what could have been certain death, leaving Zebelon’s flaming sword to pierce nothing but the scarred ground where he had lain just moments before.
Nacht reappeared several meters away and out of range of Zebelon’s attack, positioning himself to the far right. Though he managed to stand on his feet, he still clutched his side in obvious pain, with his body still bearing the punishment from being sent down, crashing from that height..
sfx: Huff... huff...
The labored breathing and sweat streaming down Nacht’s face revealed the toll the battle had taken on him. He had not yet recovered from being sent crashing down with such devastating force, and every breath seemed to require tremendous effort.
Zebelon turned toward his opponent, pointing his flaming sword directly at Nacht in a gesture of both threat and mockery. But as he did so, his enhanced senses detected movement beyond the battlefield—the security operative had just leaped over the perimeter fences and was fleeing the premises entirely.
"Pathetic humans," Zebelon muttered, his voice carrying disgust as he watched the retreat. Then he tilted his head backward, his gaze falling upon two other figures approaching from behind. Quinn and Jin, the other visors, were walking steadily toward the confrontation. Nacht caught sight of them as well, turning briefly to observe their approach. Their presence could only mean one thing—they had won their part of the conflict
A slight chuckle escaped Zebelon’s lips as he began to rise into the air, his body lifting effortlessly until he hovered high above the battlefield. Now at that elevated position, he raised his right hand skyward, and something ominous began to manifest above his palm.
A darkish purple energy started swirling and swelling, growing larger and more volatile with each passing second, and what began as a small concentration of power expanded into a gigantic mass of destructive energy, reading to wipe out everything underneath him.
"That doesn’t look good," Jin said, especially as the sheer magnitude of magical power radiating from the gathering mass was enough to make his skin tingle, giving him stinging feeling that they should get the fuck out of there.
Nacht stepped forward, positioning himself in front of his allies. And despite having taken a severe beating moments before, his energy suddenly surged to new heights, as though drawing strength from the desperate nature of their situation.
His katana gleamed in his right hand as he raised it high above his head, his own magical energy beginning to gather around the blade in preparation of an counter-attack.
"Begone from this world, all of you who are filth!"
Zebelon declared from his aerial position, his voice booming across the battlefield with so much arrogance. With those words, he brought his arms down in a sweeping motion, causing the massive sphere of purple energy to begin its descent toward the three visors below.
The very air seemed to tremble as the attack hurtled downward, promising what felt like destruction on an unprecedented scale.
