CHAPTER 136: CHAPTER 136: TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION

Silas Sutton mentioned the Sutton Family kidnapping case in Veridia years ago, and Zeke Adler, lying half-dead on the ground, suddenly stiffened.

Seeing this, Silas Sutton squinted, his eyes menacing, "Remember it now?"

Zeke Adler met Silas Sutton’s gaze, his eyes filled with fear.

"Care to elaborate?" Silas Sutton asked.

Zeke Adler’s pupils widened, then he shook his head frantically, stammering, "I, I don’t know, I don’t know anything."

When a person’s life is being threatened, their first instinct is to tell the truth.

Except when telling the truth would make their death far worse than a lie would.

Seeing that Zeke Adler had no intention of confessing, a trace of impatience crossed Silas Sutton’s face. He turned and gave a signal to the bodyguard beside him.

The bodyguard understood and dragged Zeke Adler towards the room inside the suite.

Silas Sutton coldly got up, giving instructions to another bodyguard before leaving, "Don’t kill him."

The bodyguard responded, "Understood."

As Silas Sutton left the club, he received a call from Ben Lawson in the car.

A couple of days ago, Ben Lawson, dragging his unyielding spirit and frail body, had helped set up a dinner with Hugh York for him. Then Sue Woods had kept him up all night with phone calls, and by the next day, he was as delicate as a sickly flower.

High fever.

And the fever wouldn’t break.

The call connected, and before Silas Sutton could speak, Ben Lawson spoke first, "What is this, are you filming a TV drama? Such a coincidence?"

Ben Lawson’s words were all over the place. Ignoring him, Silas Sutton picked up the phone on the console and sent Stella Grant a message: Are you asleep?

After sending the message, as expected, there was no reply from Stella Grant.

With his fingertips resting on his chin, Silas Sutton remained silent, while Ben Lawson’s voice surrounded him through the car’s sound system, "Mr. Sutton, are you listening to me?"

Silas Sutton tapped lightly on the screen with his slender fingers, then casually bit a cigarette and asked, "What?"

Ben Lawson muttered, wanting to curse.

The next second, Silas Sutton said in a low voice, "If there’s nothing important, I’ll hang up."

Ben Lawson was frustrated, "Is this what they call out with the old, in with the new?"

Silas Sutton replied, "Using bias always leads to more bias."

Ben Lawson got anxious, "I’m biased?"

Silas Sutton asked, "Aren’t you?"

Ben Lawson, finally recovering from his illness in the past couple of days, didn’t want to argue with him. He took a deep breath, following the philosophy, ’let others fume while I remain calm; getting angry isn’t worth getting sick over,’ "Alright, let’s cut to the chase. I heard there are new developments in the kidnapping case. Someone they found is Stella Grant’s uncle?"

Silas Sutton, his tone unreadable for emotions, responded, "Yes."

Ben Lawson, "What do you think?"

Silas Sutton raised an eyebrow, "What do I think?"

Ben Lawson said, "The person is Stella Grant’s uncle. Over on Stella’s side..."

Ben Lawson left his sentence incomplete, letting Silas Sutton piece it together himself.

Silas Sutton chuckled, "Are you worried her uncle’s been dealt with and she’ll be upset? Or are you worried Stella Grant and her uncle are in cahoots?"

Ben Lawson laughed, "Do I look like an idiot? How old was Stella back then? Moreover, when your incident happened, the Grant Corporation was also in trouble. How could Stella possibly be in cahoots with Zeke Adler?"

Silas Sutton did not acknowledge or deny, only answering one of his questions, "She won’t be upset."

Ben Lawson was surprised, "So sure?"

Silas Sutton said, "She’s not an unreasonable person."

Though Silas Sutton’s words were not meant to be sweet, they still made Ben Lawson’s teeth ache.

They exchanged a few more words, and Ben Lawson said, "After all, it’s Stella Grant’s uncle. Take it easy, investigate thoroughly before you move. If you make a mistake, it might be hard to explain to Stella."

Silas Sutton didn’t tell Ben Lawson that the man had already been dealt with, nor did he mention the matters between Stella Grant and Zeke Adler. He gave a perfunctory response and hung up the phone.

After disconnecting, Silas Sutton sat quietly for a while before dialing Stella Grant’s number.

The ringtone sounded, but Stella Grant didn’t pick up.

The ringtone played for a set duration before it automatically disconnected. Silas Sutton opened WeChat, found Stella Grant’s profile picture, clicked on it, and typed, knowing full well the answer: Stella, are you close with your uncle?
