Chapter 17: Spend One Night With Him, and We’re Even
CHAPTER 17: CHAPTER 17: SPEND ONE NIGHT WITH HIM, AND WE’RE EVEN
Narrow path for foes.
This was Stella Grant’s first reaction.
Right next to Stella Grant was her assistant’s room.
The assistant had evidently heard Silas Sutton’s phone call and was blushing as she timidly looked over in his direction.
Stella glanced at her assistant out of the corner of her eye, and as she tapped the lock with her head down she said, "Yara, you’ll be booking a flight back to Veridia later."
The assistant froze upon hearing this, looking at Stella in shock, "Manager Grant..."
Stella ignored her, opened the door and stepped inside.
In the workplace, someone who is unable to manage emotions and can’t control their mouth or eyes is a big taboo.
This little assistant of hers fit the bill perfectly.
The assistant watched Stella enter the room, standing there momentarily without any reaction.
A half hour later, she received a transfer notice from the HR department.
She stared at the transfer notice on her phone, her face flushed red while sitting in the room next door, wanting to argue with Stella but not daring to, finally angrily grabbing her luggage and slamming the door as she left.
Stella heard the commotion from inside the room but acted like she didn’t hear it, holding a tablet while looking at the project in Oakhaven.
The project was indeed a good one, a villa district primarily aiming at wealthy individuals.
The project’s location is between Oakhaven and Veridia, places where there’s no shortage of wealthy individuals.
But judging from the situation at the meeting just now, Rhodes Group seemed overly rushed this time, and the proposal was a bit subpar.
However, this situation is nothing new in this industry, decisions on projects made in haste, working overtime overnight to satisfy the major clients, quality inevitably not up to standard.
Stella roughly flipped through this project, quickly calculating the profits for Omni, lounging on the sofa with a slight edge to her eye.
No wonder Martin Lynch was beaming that day.
Once this project is completed, their performance for the year would meet expectations.
As Stella leaned on the sofa thinking about how Martin was indeed shrewd, her phone lying nearby vibrated twice.
She glanced down, and Silas Sutton’s message popped up on the screen: Didn’t you say you had time someday to treat me to a meal?
The fingers on Stella’s tablet slightly curled, unwilling to acknowledge.
Without replying to Silas over here, after a while, he sent a second message: Does raping a man count as a crime of rape?
Stella’s curled fingers froze.
Raping a man doesn’t constitute a crime of rape.
Because there is no such provision in the law.
But it still constitutes a crime, the crime of indecent assault.
Looking at the two messages from Silas, Stella spent about five minutes building up the courage to reply: Too many eyes around, I’m afraid it’s bad for President Sutton’s reputation, if you don’t mind, shall I order takeout?
Silas immediately replied: Shall I come to your room or you to mine?
Stella: What would you like to eat, I’ll order for you separately.
Upon sending this message, there was no immediate reply from Silas.
A while later, Silas replied to her: Stella, am I short of this meal from you?
Stella’s inner thought: You’re not short but still pressing me for it?
In the opposite room, Silas made a call, and upon seeing Stella’s message, he chuckled in frustration, lazily reclining on the sofa, his shirt half pulled out from where it should be tucked into his suit pants.
After a while, Silas got up and directly dialed Stella’s phone.
The phone rang, Stella frowned and pressed to answer, "President Sutton."
Silas’s voice was low and amused, direct without adopting a roundabout approach, "Stella, I’m curious about one thing, want you to help resolve my confusion."
Stella leaned on the sofa, without a choice but to respond, "Go ahead."
Silas asked, "Are you and Flynn Shepherd boyfriend and girlfriend or not?"
Stella went silent, instinctively unwilling to let Silas know the truth.
They are both adults, Stella is not naive, two adults who have had a flirtatious relationship before, and one party still occasionally wanting to draw the other in, the purpose is obvious.
After Silas finished speaking, not hearing a response from Stella, he let out a mocking laugh, "Got it."
Stella pressed her lips together, listening to Silas’s laughter, a trace of inexplicable irritation rising in her heart.
The feeling was as if someone was blatantly digging a pit in front of her and unequivocally telling her: I’m waiting for you to jump in.
Following Silas’s words, a prolonged silence ensued on the phone.
About a minute later, Silas flicked ashes from his cigarette and said, "Stella, spend one night with me, and we’ll call it even, what do you say?"
