Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 122 - 57: Cunning Loli Captures the Thief
CHAPTER 122: CHAPTER 57: CUNNING LOLI CAPTURES THE THIEF
Chu San saw that all the medicinal herbs in the medicine field were growing well and thought he was seeing things. A few days ago, when he had checked, there were already quite a few wilting herbs in the field.
A faint green Wind Element surged around him. As a magician with Wind Attribute, Chu San’s greatest strength was his agile movement technique.
At night, he looked like a humanoid bat. With a few swoops, Chu San landed on the ridge of the empty public herb field.
He carefully looked around to make sure that no one was around before he confidently walked into the medicine field.
Upon closer examination, under the moonlight, the medicinal herbs were still lush and vibrant, showing no signs of insect damage.
Could it be that the demon worms bought by the vice president didn’t work?
Chu San thought for a moment, and carefully took out a small cloth bag from his arms.
The cloth bag was bulging, constantly squirming with something inside.
"Little darlings, the vice president’s orders are all up to you," Chen Lianlian’s methods were much more potent and sinister compared to Song Xiangru.
Yun Sheng despised her orders and refused to join the Combat Magic Association, which secretly infuriated Chen Lianlian. While ordering Chu San to monitor every move of Yun Sheng, she also had Chu San purchase a type of Dark Demon Worm, called Ghost Aphid, from outside at a high price.
Ghost Aphids are a rare type of demon worm in Great Zhou City, only found in the barbaric lands of the far north.
The prominent characteristic of this demon worm is that once it burrows into a plant, it disappears invisibly, undetectable by ordinary magicians.
Even if some magicians with especially sharp spiritual power do detect them, without a unique Insect Extermination Magic, the Ghost Aphids are almost impossible to eliminate.
With their strong reproductive abilities and the difficulty in killing them, they are notoriously known as "Insect Plague" within the medicinal herb industry.
Earlier, Chu San had secretly released over ten Ghost Aphids into the medicine field, thinking it would be enough to destroy the entire field, but to his surprise, tonight the field seemed completely unaffected.
Undeterred, Chu San crouched down like a sneaky gopher and examined the signs erected over the ridges of the medicine field.
In the public herb field, each medicine field is marked with the name of the medicinal herb it contains.
Song San chose several acres of the most valuable medicinal herbs, loosened the cloth bag in his hand, and quietly activated Wind Magic.
Out of the cloth bag, dozens of flying insects, ranging from one to two millimeters in length, rushed out competingly.
Dozens of Ghost Aphids, blown by the wind, drifted far away and landed on different medicinal herbs.
Once they touched a medicinal herb, the Ghost Aphids would burrow into the plant within seconds and begin sucking the essence from it.
In just a few days, the medicinal herbs in the public herb field would turn into worthless weeds.
Chu San sneered, "Ignorant Magic Potion Department, let’s see how you die this time, daring to offend our Combat Association and bringing doom upon yourself."
Suddenly, the smile on Chu San’s face froze.
Right near him on a medicinal herb, a newly landed Ghost Aphid fell from the plant, struggled a few times on the ground, and then died.
"What’s going on?" Song San puzzled, walking a few steps forward.
Before he even stepped forward, a slight crackling sound came from under his feet.
He looked down warily and discovered a glaringly bright hunting trap lying in the herb field.
On the mousetrap, the cold light of the sharp backward spikes almost pierced his ankle.
Song San, truly a Wind Mage, flickered his figure and his feet which were about to touch the ground floated up lightly, but as soon as his feet left the ground,
a cold, electric shock-like strange sensation stuck close to the ground and traveled up his calf.
His calf twitched as if cramping, and with a cry of pain, he lost balance. One leg stepped down squarely on the hunting trap.
An eerie cracking sound of bones ensued, and the frail Wind Mage screamed in agony.
That hunting trap was no ordinary one; it was a reinforced version specially made by Uncle Tie after taking lessons from the encounter with the Golden Rhinoceros Pig. Once clamped, it would not only break human bones but even the tough leg bones of the Golden Rhinoceros Pig.
As Chu San screamed, his left leg was gruesomely snapped in two.
Almost at the same moment, a fireball fell from the sky. Song San, already in excruciating pain, had no defense and was too late to scream out a second time before fainting.
Before passing out, he only managed to hear a shout: "Catch the thief, there’s a thief in the public herb field!"
This shout traveled far across the open spaces of the public herb field.
Shortly thereafter, several academy instructors and some trainees rushed to the scene upon hearing the news.
"What happened?" Several instructors arrived to see a clearly trampled and disorderly herb field.
In the field, one trainee from the Combat Department had already fainted, with a hunting trap gruesomely clamped around the lower part of his left thigh.
Sharp steel teeth had pierced into the trainee’s leg, leaving bloody, muddled flesh and grievously exposed broken bones, and worst of all, his entire body was scorched, with his hair and clothes charred black, clearly from a fire.
Someone recognized the person as the Wind Mage from the Combat Department, Chu San.
On the edge of the field, there stood a Magic Potion trainee, ashen and terrified.
"Aren’t you the new public student from the Magic Potion Department? What happened here?" The instructors were stern, as private fights were strictly prohibited on campus.
Poor "Magic Potion Department public student" Yun Sheng trembled, seemingly with tears shimmering in his eyes, "I don’t know, I really don’t know. There were signs of wild beasts trampling in the public herb field a few days ago. Thinking a wild animal had entered, I set a few hunting traps in the field. Tonight, after I finished applying fertilizer and was about to leave, I heard noises in the field. Seeing a shadow, I thought it was a wild animal, so I released a Fireball Technique, but little did I know..."
Upon hearing this, the instructors felt something was amiss; it was so dark, what was a Combat Department trainee Chu San doing in the public herb field at this hour?
They entered the field and moved Chu San out. As they did, they discovered a burnt black bag next to Chu San.
Beside the bag, there lay a few dead Ghost Aphids.
After examining the Ghost Aphids, the instructors’ faces changed dramatically. The instructors, with far greater knowledge than regular Magic Students, exchanged glances. They immediately sent Chu San to the medical room and reassured the "frightened" public student Yun Sheng, instructing him to keep tonight’s events strictly confidential.
The instructors hurriedly went to the academic office to report the night’s events.
