Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 44 - 43 The Famous Cane Maker
CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 43 THE FAMOUS CANE MAKER
"Welcome to Suo Luo Magic Shop, my dear little girl. The puppy in your hands is quite special," a voice as sharp as a dwarf sharpening on a whetstone floated over from behind the counter.
An old woman with a tight, rounded bun on her head, who looked serious and rigid, was sitting behind the counter, cradling a fat, lazy cat in her arms.
The cat’s body was huge, yet the old woman’s frame was tiny. Together, they looked as if the old woman was a cat with a human head, lying there lazily, surveying the surroundings with her grey eyes.
The old woman was now eyeing Little Black in Yun Sheng’s hands with interest. Little Black seemed to dislike the old lady very much and barked unhappily.
At the sound of barking, the cat in the old lady’s hands also narrowed its eyes, defiantly meowing at Little Black a few times. For a moment, the shop was filled with an air of incendiary tension.
"Madam, I would like to buy a Magic Wand for my daughter," Yun Canghai asked with a smile.
Only then did the old woman lift her eyelids and take another look at Yun Canghai.
But it was just a glance.
"What Magic Attribute do you want for the Magic Wand, how many Beast Years? Do you need a Demon Beast Soul Stone embedded right away?" The old lady’s voice was still grating.
Yun Sheng didn’t speak; she trusted that her father, Yun Canghai, would pick the right Magic Wand for her. However, she was more worried about whether her father had enough silver coins to purchase a Magic Wand.
"A Magic Wand made from fifty Beast Years bones, Magic Attribute, none, and no need to embed a Demon Beast Soul Stone," Yun Canghai said almost without thinking, as if he had made up his mind about what kind of Magic Wand he wanted upon entering the shop.
Not embedding a Demon Beast Soul Stone was somewhat understandable.
After all, for most poor Magicians, they cannot afford the expensive finished soul stones. Many opt to enter areas where Demon Beasts congregate, hunt Demon Beasts that match the attribute of the Magic Wand, and after seizing the Demon Beast Soul Stone, proceed to embed it themselves.
But a Magic Wand without any attribute? That was odd.
A Magic Wand without any attributes and without a soul stone embedded meant that when the Mage uses the Magic Wand, no matter what Magic is cast, they won’t receive any amplification from the Magic, so what’s the difference between using a Magic Wand and not using one?
Even the cat-rearing Granny Suoluo had never encountered such a request from a customer.
"Are you sure you want to buy a Magic Wand with no Magic Attributes? Could it be that this little girl is a Multi-element Mage?" Granny Suoluo looked at Yun Sheng again with her grayish-green eyes.
"It is no wonder that Lady Suoluo is a renowned Staff Maker on the continent. Only in your shop can I find the suitable Magic Wand for Sheng’er," said Yun Canghai, speaking in a clear voice.
In Yun Sheng’s understanding, a Magic Wand could only embed one type of Magic Soul Stone.
However, among real High-level Mages, there is a notion circulating that is completely different from popular belief.
On a Magic Wand, different attributes of Magic Soul Stones can be embedded, but the precondition is that the Beast Bone used to make the Magic Wand Body must not carry any attributes. That way, when the Magic Wand is completed, it will not produce magical repulsion due to the different attributes of the Demon Beast Soul Stones.
This old woman is actually a Staff Maker?
Upon hearing this, Yun Sheng was also astounded.
Lady Suoluo had not expected to meet someone who could recognize her in such an inconspicuous city.
She suddenly remembered something, a sharp gleam in her aged eyes, "I remember now, you are the same young man who accompanied a lady to choose a Magic Wand here thirteen years ago."
Thirteen years ago... at that time, Yun Sheng wasn’t even born yet, and the woman who came to the Suo Luo Magic Shop with Yun Canghai must have been Yun Sheng’s mother, Hu Jiusheng.
Granny Suoluo was over sixty years old and had begun making Magic Wands at the age of ten; she has been doing it for fifty years now.
The reason she hadn’t become one of the few most famed staff masters of the continent was due to her average Magic Cultivation and commoner background, never having attended any of the renowned Magic Academies on the continent.
She was merely a Great Magic Director of the Wood Element.
The Wood Element is also one of the Secondary Attributes of magic, different from the famed Sub-Light Magic and the Dark Magic people shun. Wood Element Mages mostly have neither strong attack power nor notably high defense, thus failing to dominate the world of magicians.
However, a blessing in disguise.
Due to Lady Suoluo’s past experiences, she devoted her life to crafting Magic Wands for commoner magicians, hence she didn’t become a Hall-level Staff Master.
But because of this, her Magic Wands, with their fine craftsmanship and reasonable prices, are highly regarded by commoner magicians.
Especially the young Magicians who have just become Magicians, they are willing to travel thousands of miles to purchase the Scepters crafted by Lady Suoluo as their first Magic Wand in their magical careers.
"So, you are the daughter of an old acquaintance. If my memory serves me right, your wife was a Summoner," Lady Suoluo noticed that when she mentioned something from thirteen years ago, Yun Canghai’s gaze changed abruptly.
Lady Suoluo hence said no more, lowering her head to examine Yun Sheng.
Upon this closer look, she saw that although the girl was plainly dressed, she had delicate features and particularly bright and intelligent eyes.
The girl was completely engrossed in looking at several Magic Wands, seemingly oblivious to the conversation between the two adults.
Yun Canghai had a reason for selecting a fifty-year-old Beast Bone.
Even if it had been made into a Magic Wand, the Demon Beast Bone would still carry hostility.
Especially those Magic Wands made of Demon Beast Bones that had been cruelly killed and stripped away, they could even backlash against the user if handled improperly.
Generally, a magician’s first Magic Wand is just a transitional staff, which can be replaced after growing into a more High-level Mage.
Given Yun Sheng’s age, it was impossible for her to wield a Magic Wand older than fifty years, but she would need to use this Magic Wand for the next few years, so Yun Canghai specifically requested a Magic Wand with the Beast Age limited to a maximum of fifty years.
"Non-attribute Demon Beast Bone, that’s tricky," Lady Suoluo also looked troubled. She glanced at Little Black in Yun Sheng’s hand, "There happens to be one at hand, the Demon Beast the young lady is holding appears to be a Non-attribute Demon Beast."
Upon hearing this, Little Black’s fur bristled.
In the arms of Lady Suoluo, the plump cat provocatively twitched its whiskers.
"Little Black is my War Beast, I would rather go without a Magic Wand than harm Little Black," Yun Sheng held Little Black tightly, her expression as if she really feared that Granny Suoluo would reach out with her withered hand at any moment and snatch Little Black away.
Seeing this, Yun Canghai was amused.
Most of the time, Yun Sheng was as composed as a child should be, which had once worried Yun Canghai, her father, for quite a while.
It is only at times like this that she seems like a six-year-old girl.
