Live-in Son-in-law
Chapter 684: She’s Not Worthy
CHAPTER 684: CHAPTER 684: SHE’S NOT WORTHY
Qin Yi and Bai Jingqing waited for hours at the Village Chief’s house before he finally returned, looking none too pleased.
"Is Little Yaya’s mother okay?"
Qin Yi knew that all of this was undoubtedly related to the deceased Little Yaya.
The Village Chief sat down and sighed, "She fainted several times from crying."
Qin Yi didn’t know what to say. He had experienced the pain of losing a loved one and knew how heart-wrenching it could be.
"Qin Yi, we really owe you a huge thanks this time. If it weren’t for you, we’d all have met a grim fate."
Qin Yi waved his hand, gently shaking his head.
In fact, they were the ones who owed an apology. If they hadn’t intruded, none of this would’ve happened.
"You all rest for a bit. I’ll go prepare some food; let’s have a drink, you and I."
Qin Yi nodded, knowing the Village Chief was in low spirits and that a bit of wine might do him good.
The Village Chief lived alone, so he was used to cooking by himself, quickly preparing a few dishes.
"It’s just simple fare, hope you don’t mind."
Qin Yi laughed, "Having something to eat is good enough."
The Village Chief brought out a jar of wine, unsealing it, as a faint floral fragrance wafted through the air.
"Osmanthus again?" Qin Yi laughed.
"That’s right, this is my homemade Osmanthus wine."
"Qingqing, pour the wine."
Bai Jingqing hesitated, gave Qin Yi a glare, then got up to help pour the wine for everyone.
The three disciples from Baihua Pavilion sat upright, but were dumbfounded to see Bai Jingqing being so obedient.
Of course, they were terrified of Qin Yi and didn’t dare utter a word.
"Village Chief, someone outside requests an audience."
A villager ran in and said.
"Who is it?"
The villager glanced at Qin Yi, "He calls himself Mo Wuji, says he’s looking for Young Master Qin."
Qin Yi was momentarily stunned, then delighted, "He’s my friend."
The Village Chief instructed, "Invite him in."
Qin Yi looked at Bai Jingqing with a teasing expression, "Your man has arrived."
Bai Jingqing almost smashed the wine jar over Qin Yi’s head, scowling, "Stop talking nonsense."
"Qingqing, I truly think Mo Wuji and you are a match made in heaven, or else why would I keep you around?" Qin Yi said lazily.
Bai Jingqing was so enraged she was practically fuming.
The Village Chief appeared curious, "So you two aren’t together?"
"She’s not worthy," Qin Yi blurted out.
"Qin Yi, don’t go too far." Bai Jingqing clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white, looking as if she wanted to give Qin Yi a good punch to leave him with a face full of blossoms.
"I have a wife, and she’s much prettier than you. So when I say you’re not worthy, I mean it sincerely."
"Sincerely, my ass," Bai Jingqing roared angrily.
Qin Yi: "..."
The three disciples from Baihua Pavilion were stunned; they had never expected their usually composed and sacred Junior Sister Bai to swear.
"Qingqing, mind your status. If you scare off Young Master Mo, I’ll have to grab your Holy Order and the remnant map," Qin Yi said seriously.
Just as Bai Jingqing was about to speak, the villager returned with a handsome young man.
"Brother Qin, I’ve finally found you." Mo Wuji looked very happy to see Qin Yi.
But when he saw Bai Jingqing, he was left dumbfounded, obviously not expecting her to be there.
"What are you staring at? Planning to fan your tail?" Qin Yi looked at him with disdain, "Haven’t you seen a woman before?"
Mo Wuji snapped out of it, a blush creeping across his handsome face as he walked over, clasped his fists, and bowed, "Didn’t expect Junior Sister Bai to be here as well?"
Bai Jingqing sized up Mo Wuji; he was indeed quite dashing and smiled clearly, nodding slightly.
"Sit down, we’re all going to be family sooner or later, no need to be shy," Qin Yi teased.
Mo Wuji’s face turned red in an instant, even more embarrassed than Bai Jingqing.
Qin Yi shook his head speechlessly, asking, "How did you find out we were here?"
"I ran into a disciple from the Lei Family on the road, and that’s how I learned Brother Qin was here in this village."
Qin Yi nodded slightly; it must have been one of those who fled earlier with Fang Ran.
"Let me introduce you, this is the Village Chief."
Mo Wuji hurriedly stood up, "Greetings, elder."
The Village Chief was momentarily stunned and hastily returned the greeting.
Qin Yi pointed to Bai Jingqing, smiling, "No need for introductions for her, right? Your future wife."
Mo Wuji was at a loss, his face flushed.
Bai Jingqing glared fiercely at Qin Yi.
"Even if you glare at me, you’ll still be Young Master Mo’s future wife," Qin Yi teased.
Mo Wuji found himself at a loss, awkwardly waving his hands, "Brother Qin, please don’t joke."
"How is it a joke? You told me yourself, you’ve had a crush on Fairy Bai for over a decade. Are you saying you lied to me?"
Mo Wuji blushed so hard he could almost drip blood, taken aback by Qin Yi’s straightforwardness.
Qin Yi looked at Bai Jingqing mischievously, "Fairy White, what do you think of our Young Master Mo?"
Bai Jingqing’s face was cold, "He’s better than you."
"Ah, see, she’s already protective," Qin Yi grinned at Mo Wuji, teasing, "Young Master Mo, congratulations on finding a fierce protector."
Thud!
Mo Wuji, unsteady with nerves, half-sitting on the edge of his stone stool, toppled off, thoroughly embarrassed.
The three disciples from Baihua Pavilion almost couldn’t hold back, their shoulders shaking as they nearly burst out laughing.
Bai Jingqing’s lips pressed into a line, also holding back laughter.
Only Qin Yi laughed unabashedly.
"Young Master Mo, no need to be that excited, it’s not like you’re getting married tonight."
Mo Wuji clambered up awkwardly, clasping his fists with embarrassment, "Brother Qin, please show mercy."
"What’s wrong? Are you saying you don’t like Fairy Bai?" Qin Yi asked with a smile.
Mo Wuji’s face was pressed red from holding back, unable to utter a word.
Suddenly Qin Yi’s expression turned serious, "Since Young Master Mo doesn’t like her, then forgive me. I’ll take the Secret Realm Holy Order on Fairy Bai."
"Brother Qin, please, show mercy," Mo Wuji quickly shouted.
"What? You don’t like her, so it shouldn’t matter if I take her Secret Realm Holy Order, right?"
Mo Wuji fidgeted nervously, his hands twisting out of shape, stammering for a long moment, unable to form a complete sentence.
Qin Yi shook his head in disdain, "Look at you, no guts. When I was pursuing my wife, I directly... Alright, I was just as timid as you."
Mo Wuji looked speechless, thinking, "You were just as timid, yet you’re teasing me?"
"Come, come, let’s drink. The Village Chief’s homemade Osmanthus Wine, you won’t find it elsewhere." Qin Yi poured Mo Wuji a cup.
"Thank you!" Mo Wuji sniffed, "The floral scent mixed with the aroma of wine, indeed a fine brew."
"Come, since we’ve met by fate, let’s toast."
As everyone clinked their glasses, just as Qin Yi raised his drink to his lips, he suddenly spilled half of it onto the ground, saying softly, "A little less for the child."
After saying that, he downed the rest of the wine in one gulp.
