CHAPTER 307: LIARA

For a moment, Winterseed was shrouded in total silence as time seemed to come to a halt.

At the middle of the village, fog appeared. Gradually and slowly, it stretched and covered the village and its surrounding. An eerie sound reminiscing of an endless cry echoed across the area the fog covered.

Standing at the heart of the fog were Rowan, grasping his sword as his eyes fixed ahead of him. Beside him was Eliman who cast a defensive blood magic spell on himself, a blood-red full body armor shrouded him.

Dragun and Merla were a few meters away from the heart of the spell, they too cast defensive magic spells over their bodies.

"They would appear soon." Eliman whispered to Rowan.

As though his words were the call to the evil spirits, several dozens of them appeared.

Floating several meters above the ground were entities of different appearance and height.

Few of them were humanoid masses of swirling white mist. Another caste were red, about the height of a human adult, and others were either encompassed in black mist and were of varying heights, some even towering over ten feet.

The evil spirits first floated above the magic formation as they settled upon their new environment.

Their eyes soon found Rowan and Eliman.

SHRILLL!

A horrifying howling sound escaped from their mouths as they began drifting at insane speed toward Rowan.

Rowan smirked and locked eyes with the approaching enemies and clutched his sword. He gave a signal for Eliman to move back before disappearing from his location.

With a speed incomprehensible by mortal eyes, Rowan leapt several meters into the air and came in contact with the evil spirits.

He whipped the soul harvester forward with insane speed, slashing through the bodies of the evil spirit.

His sword easily went through their ethereal bodies as easily as a hot knife went through butter.

A shrill howl echoed from the evil spirits as the familiar hands of death gripped them.

The evil spirits are spirits of those who had already experienced death but never crossed the physical realm. They possessed innate immortality, they could not be killed easily, especially by physical weapons.

Unfortunately, the soul harvester was not ordinary.

They were greeted with severe pain and shock as the weapon tore through them easily, giving them an unexpected second death. Their high-pitched shrill cries echoed across a wide range as they disappeared.

Rowan received dozens of notifications from a single swing of the soul harvester, but he continued, zapping through the air, bringing down dozens of evil spirits at once.

The dying cries of the evil spirits spread across the entire village.

If anyone were strolling past the border of the village at the moment, they would think that the village was haunted — well, they wouldn’t be wrong.

Merla and the others observed the intense battle between Rowan and the evil spirits.

The battle grew more intense as more and more bigger and stronger evil spirits revealed themselves and charged at Rowan.

Merla made her way toward the unconscious bodies of Liara and Ren, who were only a few meters away from the active area of the evil spirits.

As she made her way there, several evil spirits left Rowan and charged toward her, echoing an eerie cry in their wake.

Nevertheless, before they reached her, Eliman and Dragun appeared and defended her. Dragun cast a wide-range fire magic spell, halting the movement of the evil spirits, and Eliman caused a red mist to appear.

The evil spirits’ frustrated cries echoed as the two mages blocked their onslaught.

They had considered Merla an easy target and were about to inhabit her body when the two of them showed up and ruined their plans.

Rowan, who was battling the other evil spirits, noticed the activities and frowned. He returned his focus and moved at even more insane speed.

Time went by gradually and Ragnar had already slain over three hundred evil spirits that emerged from the magic formation.

The evil spirits were considerably weak and gave only a small amount of evolution points, the same amount D-rank and C-rank monsters would give.

While they were weak, their immortal-like ability made them formidable.

They could easily cause the death of a mage stronger than them as long as the mage lacked spirit magic and special weapons like the soul harvester, which could inflict wounds on them and finally kill them.

"She is up!"

Rowan’s blade had just slayed a white misty evil spirit when Merla’s voice rang out.

Rowan turned to observe the cause of the voice and spotted Liara sitting on the mat, holding her head as it ached badly.

"Great! It is working!"

A smile appeared on Rowan’s face, and he turned to the evil spirits charging toward him.

Nevertheless, before he could attack, the evil spirits avoided him and began charging toward Liara, who had just woken up.

"You stubborn spirits!"

Rowan’s voice rang out as he disappeared from his current position and appeared in-between the humans and evil spirits.

"How dare you leave a fight when I’m not done!" Rowan’s voice barked as he began slaughtering the evil spirits.

"L-lord Rowan..." Liara’s head cleared up gradually. She was shocked to hear Rowan’s voice.

When she looked up, horror appeared in her eyes as they fell upon the population of evil spirits currently charging toward her.

She didn’t need a teacher to explain to her that those hollow beings were evil.

Fear gripped her, and she crawled back on the mat.

"Calm down... they are being taken care of." Merla spoke softly.

Liara did not respond, her eyes were fixed on the foggy sky and the intense battle.

Her gaze soon fell down and spotted Dragun and Eliman. She recognized Dragun, but she could not recognize the handsome red-haired young man who was spewing red mist from his hands.

She even turned to her side, and she couldn’t even recognize the face of Merla consoling her.

"What happened..." her head began to ache as she tried recalling past events. The more she tried to recall, the stronger the ache became.

After trying hard for some time, a particular image appeared in her memory, and her body tensed, she let out a horrified cry and grabbed her head that began to ache even more.
