CHAPTER 320: DEMON LAIR (7/)

"What is your motivation?" Colt’s voice echoed across the presently quiet demon lair.

What were their motivations? Both of them repeated the question in their minds.

For Rowan, it was simply to get rid of the demon lair and bring his people into this city. He had no personal motivation like revenge for a deceased loved one.

As for D’andre, his reason was far more personal than the two leaders in his presence. His sole reason for entering the demon lair was to grow stronger and obtain unique skills that only existed within them.

D’andre did not want to share that. Both of them figured Colt would be a good addition to their team, so at least for now, they had to maintain a good relationship.

"We’re just concerned humans," D’andre responded with a smile that made it difficult to tell if he was lying. "We heard about the dark fate that had befallen the deceased and decided to step in and help. Also, this demon lair will erupt in a few months. Once the demons within it step out into the outside world, more people will die, and we don’t want that happening."

Colt nodded. If those were their reasons, then they were worthy allies. "You guys can come with me. As long as you don’t stand in my way, we can work together," he said.

D’andre and Rowan did not agree immediately. Even though Rowan would have loved for this guy to clear the entire demon lair, he couldn’t accept being a mere spectator.

D’andre smiled and asked, "Stand in your way? Can you elaborate, please?"

"Hmm, you two can assist me in slaying the demons, but the demon lord is mine. I must be the one to land the finishing blow," Colt responded in a chilling tone.

Rowan and D’andre heaved a small sigh of relief. "That is understandable," D’andre replied.

Colt simply nodded. "This demon lair is vast. Even though I’ve slaughtered more than a hundred demons, I have barely covered fifteen percent of it," Colt explained. "I hope you two aren’t some dead weight I have to carry with me?"

"Of course not, haha. We wouldn’t dare step into the demon lair if we were weak. How about we share a little about our abilities with one another? It would create a better fighting harmony," D’andre suggested. "I’ll go first. I major in the light magic element. I can defend, attack, and my light magic spells have a special weakening effect on demons. Of course, the effect is weakened by the Ogramon’s regenerative ability."

After D’andre finished revealing his skill, Rowan also revealed himself as a swordmaster. Colt seemed more interested when D’andre spoke than with Rowan. For unknown reasons, Colt didn’t find Rowan friendly.

"My dagger is my power. It can inflict plenty of random curses on demons and the like. For the demons I have slain so far, it inflicted a curse that made their regenerative ability far weaker and reduced their reaction speed, rendering them mere demon lackeys that could be slain easily," Colt explained and quickly added, "Also, the dagger’s strength is limitless, it grows stronger."

"That is badass!" D’andre reacted.

’I want that dagger!’ Rowan, on the other hand, felt a pang of longing for the weapon. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do to obtain it at this moment.

The three of them, after a few minutes of discussion, proceeded deeper into the demon lair. After some time of strolling, they came across another wave of Ogramons, numbering about fifty.

The Ogramons materialized from the walls, landed on the ground, and lunged at them with bloodlust. But the three of them were prepared.

Colt was the first to launch himself at them. His main task at the moment was to inflict his dagger’s curse on the Ogramons one by one, making it much easier for his two allies to slay them.

With a swiftness that unmatched his power, Colt arrived in the middle of the approaching demons. His body turned into a blur of lethal movements.

One after another, he approached the demons and inflicted simple injuries on them, which was all he needed to do to activate the curses imbued in his blade.

Rowan and D’andre exchanged glances before launching into the offense.

Rowan took out the Soul Harvester and basically teleported toward his new opponent. He swung his blade and left a ghastly wound on the Ogramon’s knees.

While the Ogramon let out a low growl of anguish, he swiftly slashed its other knee. This took less than a second. The Ogramon lost strength in its legs due to the pain and its inability to hasten its unnatural healing and regeneration. It knelt with a thud, and Rowan, using its weakness, leapt up and chopped off its neck.

BOOM! BOOM!

Beside him, an Ogramon was attacked by many light magic balls. The force of the magic balls propelled through its fibers, leaving visible holes in its body. The holes were gradually covering up, but at a very slow pace compared to the Ogramons they had faced at the beginning.

"Good!"

Seeing this, a smirk appeared on the archmage’s face, and without hesitation, he shot more spells at the Ogramon and killed it, earning a lot of evolution points.

After witnessing how it felt to fight the Ogramon without their overpowered regenerative abilities, Rowan and D’andre went into a mode similar to berserk. They latched onto their opponents with no fear of failure.

Blades slashed, blocked, counterattacked, and stabbed. Spells wove, burned, and exploded into radiant bursts of light that tore through demonic flesh. The two of them were unstoppable.

"Hmm..." Colt hummed as he watched from the sidelines. He simply left this wave for them to handle, not out of kindness, but to gauge their power and usefulness. Seeing how they fought, he nodded his head. "They are worthy allies."

Meanwhile, the battle continued and drew nearer to its conclusion. After about twenty minutes, the last of the fifty-plus Ogramon collapsed to the ground and died. Rowan and D’andre received a lot of evolution points from their slaughter.

Both of them rejoiced at the simplicity of their fight.

They managed to take down a total of fifty-three Ogramon in less than twenty minutes, a great improvement considering it took them almost two hours to successfully take down just fifteen of them earlier.

"I really need that dagger. It is an incredible weapon," Rowan’s greed grew.

At the same time, a predicament approached Winterseed.
