Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 119 - 117: Suspect
Half an hour later.
Jenny led Lucas's wife into the office.
This was a white woman in her thirties, with brown wavy hair, tall, wearing high heels as not much shorter than Luke, her makeup smeared from crying.
Luke sized up the other party, "Inosa Soster?"
The woman slowly lifted her head, showing a sorrowful expression, "Yes, it's me."
"May I talk to you?"
"About my husband?"
"Yes."
Inosa Soster wiped the corner of her eye, "Do you know who killed my husband?"
"We are still investigating, collecting as many clues as possible related to his murder. Being his wife, you know him better than us and might be able to provide some useful information."
"Okay, I'm willing."
Luke turned on the recorder, "When did you meet Lucas?"
Inosa Soster reminisced, "Many years ago, also through a movie. At that time, I was the supporting actress, and he was the lead actor.
He was extremely handsome back then. As we spent more time together, it just naturally happened."
David seemed to remember something, "Right, you were also in 'Tactical Bravery.' I remember you seemed to play Lucas's ex-girlfriend.
You were murdered by a gang of thugs, and Lucas's character started a gang war to avenge you.
It was a tough-guy movie."
"Right, that was the movie, one of Lucas's classics. Many fans knew him through that film. I was also enchanted by his performance in the movie, madly fell in love with him.
Afterward, our dating, engagement, and marriage went smoothly."
Luke continued, "When did you get married?"
"Last summer."
"You dated for many years?"
"Nine years. We weathered the seven-year itch, felt our relationship was stable, then got engaged and married. I loved him deeply, and he loved me too..." Inosa Soster choked up again, "I can't believe he's gone just like that!
God, why did you do this!
why?"
Jenny handed her a tissue, consoling her softly.
After a while, once Inosa Soster had calmed down, Luke continued, "Has Lucas been acting out of the ordinary recently?"
"Lucas was a workaholic; once he was on set, he'd be all in. I always urged him to take care of his health, but he would always say that the movies were his life.
He had to devote all his energy to the films, that it was the only way to do justice to each viewer.
He truly loved his job.
Actually, we haven't seen much of each other lately. Most of his time was spent filming or in the hotel studying the script, leaving little personal time.
I didn't notice anything unusual."
"Regarding Lucas's murder, do you suspect anyone?"
Inosa Soster sighed, "Lucas was good in many ways, just a bit impulsive, just like the main character in 'Tactical Bravery.' He would do whatever he thought was right.
His personality could easily offend people, and indeed he had some disputes with some individuals, and I always advised him against it.
But these were conflicts that could be resolved, there was no need for such extreme measures.
I can't think of anyone who would commit such a cruel act."
"I heard that Lucas was involved in a car accident a while ago, is that right?"
"Yes, about four months ago. Lucas had just gotten the lead role in this movie, and he was going out to eat. A woman crashed into his car, causing him some minor injuries, thankfully only a scrape on his arm, nothing serious."
"Did you know the driver before the accident?"
"I don't know them."
"Was that car accident an accident?"
"I think so, it's been so long after all. Do you think Lucas's death was related to that traffic accident?"
Luke sensed the implication, "What did Lucas think?"
"He thought it was Andar And who had someone do it."
"Who is Andar And?"
"The supporting actor in this movie. He also auditioned for the lead role, but in terms of acting skills and fame, Lucas was more suited, so the producers and directors chose him."
"Andar And must have been quite unwilling to accept that, right?"
Inosa Soster shook her head, "I'm not sure, at least it didn't show on the surface. Lucas also rarely mentioned it to me again."
"Since Lucas suspected Andar And, why didn't you have the police thoroughly investigate the perpetrators?"
Inosa Soster sighed, "At that time, Lucas had already secured the movie role; he had already won. If things were blown out of proportion, it would have ended badly. It wouldn't be flattering news for a movie.
We weighed our options for a long time... Considering the actual situation, that was the best choice."
This explanation did not satisfy Luke, he continued, "Lucas was the one hit, he was the victim. No matter what the result of the accident investigation was, he had the moral high ground."
Inosa Soster paused for a moment, "The entertainment industry is fiercely competitive, with its ups and downs, and no one can guarantee they'll always be on top.
Since filming 'Special Warfare,' Lucas hadn't had many good projects, and his opportunities had dwindled over the past two years.
After our engagement, I left the entertainment industry, but with a new family established, our expenses did not decrease but increased.
We started having financial problems; Lucas needed this role... If he didn't have new income... our family would have faced bankruptcy."
...
After the inquiry,
Jenny escorted Inosa Soster out of the office.
Susan asked, "What do you all think?"
The deputy sneered, "I don't like this woman."
Jenny just returned and asked, "Why? I think Inosa Soster is pretty decent."
"Maybe, because her makeup was smeared from crying."
Jenny was somewhat speechless, "Deputy, are you prejudiced against women? Inosa Soster's makeup being smeared from crying shows that she really is sad."
The deputy countered, "Someone truly sad wouldn't wear makeup."
"OK, let's discuss the next issue," Susan interrupted, pointing at Luke, "What do you think?"
Luke thought for a moment, "From the current situation, I feel the traffic accident four months ago might not have been an accident. The perpetrator, Ada Phil, has been driving for over ten years and has no record of traffic violations.
She wasn't on drugs or alcohol on the day of the accident, yet she just crashed straight into him, which is quite suspicious."
Little Black said, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go directly to her and ask; maybe we'll get new clues from her."
Luke said, "The perpetrator didn't know Lucas. If the crash wasn't an accident, then surely someone directed the perpetrator. According to Lucas's conjecture, the likely instigator was the movie's supporting actor Andar And.
The case was already settled four months ago, and even if we found Ada Phil, she wouldn't easily admit it. It might instead alert the perpetrator behind the scenes.
If the mastermind behind the car accident was also the one who killed Lucas, it would expose the police's direction of the investigation and put us in a disadvantageous position."
Little Black suggested, "Then just summon the supporting actor Andar And directly."
Luke shook his head, "We still don't have evidence that links the death of Lucas and the car accident to the supporting actor Andar And. Even if we brought him in, it would just be for questioning, not an interrogation, and he likely wouldn't confess.
He might as well contact Ada Phil, and both might conspire together once more."
Little Black challenged, "Then what do you suggest?"
Luke thought, "I think we should investigate secretly. If the supporting actor Andar And really is the mastermind behind the car accident, there might be an employment relationship between him and the perpetrator Ada Phil. We could look into their financial situations.
Once we have clear evidence, to prevent them from conspiring, we should bring them both in for questioning at the same time. It would be best to make them think they ran into each other by chance, so they both know they've been caught, which might create some psychological pressure.
If one of them can't take the pressure, the interrogation can make progress."
