Matthew played the surveillance video of the road.

A black Wal Volvo drove through the intersection, and the person sitting in the driver's seat was Tony Will.

The direction it was heading was the Lorne family neighborhood, at 2 p.m.

David said, "Sofia returned home at 3:20 p.m., the timing almost matches up."

The deputy team leader said with disbelief, "It's really surprising, Tony Will is actually still alive, and Lawyer Dave didn't lie.

Just because Tony was near the Lorne family neighborhood doesn't prove he's the suspect who attacked the Lornes.

At least for now, there's no evidence that links them directly, it could just be a coincidence."

Luke thought back for a moment, "When we interrogated Dave, he admitted that the modified Taser gun was borrowed from Tony, but he didn't admit to instructing Tony to buy the Taser gun.

If Dave is telling the truth, then the real purpose of Tony buying the Taser gun could very well be to use it against the Lornes."

The deputy shook his head, "But the modified Taser gun that Tony bought had already been given to Dave, the timeline doesn't match up."

Luke said, "Maybe Tony had more than one Taser gun."

Marcus analyzed, "Previously, we speculated that Tony hid his identity possibly because he had a criminal record. Could it be that his profession is unsavory, for example, that he is an assassin using a false identity as a cover.

One of the will beneficiaries might have hired him to deal with Lorne."

The deputy said, "Marcus, your imagination is rich, but investigation is about evidence. Tony's clue is worth paying attention to, but at present it's not the main focus, just like I said before, it's probably a coincidence.

We should still focus our investigative efforts on the will's beneficiaries."

"I agree with the deputy team leader," Luke agreed then turned the conversation,

"But, twenty days have passed since Lorne was attacked, and it's hard to find relevant evidence now. The several will's beneficiaries are not very cooperative either, and if they have colluded, destroyed evidence, the investigation could hit a dead end."

The deputy chuckled, "I get your point. Most organizations have internal competition and conflicts, and families are no different.

Lorne and Caroline are a blended family, which only means bigger problems.

The police's sudden investigation into Lorne's case threatens the family, and they instinctually choose to band together against outsiders.

Bastions are breached from within; breaking their solidarity could indeed reduce the possibility of collusion to a great extent.

The police have only known them for a few hours, but they have known each other for over a decade, with their mutual accusations potentially becoming a breakthrough in the case."

Jenny said, "Deputy, as you just said, they are after all family, it's very possible they've colluded beforehand, and a few words from the police are unlikely to break their solidarity."

"Such blended families crumble easily when faced with interests," the deputy looked disdainful, "Since the two wills differ, we'll ask Caroline to help verify the authenticity of the written will. I think she'll be glad to do us the favor."

Marcus gave a thumbs-up, "Wow, that's a 'good idea'."

...

An hour later, Caroline was invited to the detective bureau.

Caroline glanced around, her eyes settling on Luke, "You've got my husband's written will."

Susan said, "Ms. Caroline, I am the captain of the 'Robbery and Murder Department' Team One, Susan.

I asked you to come here in the hope that you can help us identify Mr. Lorne's handwriting to verify the authenticity of the written will."

Caroline was somewhat displeased, "My husband is only in a coma, not dead. Why are you constantly fixated on the will? It makes me very uncomfortable."

"Sorry, we don't mean to offend, but with the wills differing, we need to confirm the authenticity of the written will."

"What? You're saying there are two wills that differ in content?"

"Yes. Do you recognize Mr. Lorne's handwriting?"

"Of course, I recognize it."

"Would you be willing to assist the police in identifying it?"

"Bring it here." Caroline pulled up a chair to sit down and placed her handbag on the table.

Susan handed Caroline a copy of the will.

Caroline took out a pair of black-framed glasses from her bag, put them on, and started examining the contents of the will. Her complexion turned very unsightly, her hands trembled slightly, and she muttered, "No, no... this can't be right... it must be fake..."

Luke thought to himself, if it were fake, you wouldn't be so worked up.

Susan continued to ask, "Ms. Caroline, is this your husband's handwriting?"

Caroline dodged the question, "Where did you get this will from?"

"This will was entrusted to lawyer Daisy by Mr. Lorne."

"Why? I've been his wife for over a decade, why would he do this? I can hardly believe it, I've been praying to God for his safe awakening, how could he treat me like this?"

The deputy asked, "Ms. Caroline, had you seen this will before?"

"No, he told me the video will and the written will were the same." Caroline took a deep breath, her face set with determination, "This written will must be fake, forged."

The deputy confirmed, "Isn't that Mr. Lorne's handwriting on it?"

"It looks a lot like Lorne's handwriting, it must be someone imitating it deliberately. I believe it's definitely fake, yes, definitely." Caroline seemed to be reassuring herself.

"Then who do you think forged this will?"

"Daisy, didn't she bring this will? It must be her who forged it."

"Daisy isn't a beneficiary of the will, what good does it do her to do such a thing?"

"It's Sofia, she must have colluded with the lawyer to forge the fake will."

Luke reminded, "Ms. Caroline, do you have evidence? You can't just say things like this, be careful or the lawyer might sue you."

"I don't know if lawyer Daisy was involved, but there's definitely something wrong with Sofia. Didn't you say before that lawyer Daisy was attacked and her office was broken into? Maybe it was Sofia who forged the fake will and had someone replace the new will." Caroline grew more convinced as she spoke,

"It must be so, Sofia is very familiar with my husband's handwriting, she's capable of forging the written will."

Luke nodded, "Your speculation makes sense.

But whether it's switching out the will or Mr. Lorne being attacked, it's been a long time since those events, and it's hard for the police to find evidence now, nor can they conduct further investigation on Sofia.

Once Mr. Lorne passes away, the case can no longer be pursued, and lawyer Daisy will formally read this written will."

Caroline's expression changed repeatedly, and the will in her hands had been crumpled, "I have evidence, Sofia lied, and she made my son take the blame.

This woman got my son suspended and now wants to seize my property, I'll never agree to it."

"What do you mean by that? How did Sofia lie?"

Caroline took a deep breath, calming herself down, "My son Brooke is excellent. When treating Lorne, he had already spotted the signs of Lorne being beaten and suggested calling the police.

But Sofia stopped him, otherwise things wouldn't have gone this far."

Luke pressed, "Why did Sofia stop him?"

"I don't know. I wasn't there at the time, and Brooke mentioned it to me only afterwards. It was several days later, and calling the police then might have affected Brooke's job, so I didn't pursue it.

I swear to God, it was all Sofia's idea, my son was just foolish enough to listen to her at the moment."

Luke noted down, "Is there any other evidence?"

Caroline fell silent for a moment, perhaps calming down, and shook her head, "That's all, I've said everything."

Luke advised, "If you think of any other clues, you can still contact us. Also, don't tell anyone about this, it could interfere with the police investigation."

Caroline stood up to leave, and at the door, she turned around and said, "This written will is definitely fake, please make sure to investigate it thoroughly."

Jenny saw Caroline out of the office.

"Wow, this is getting interesting," Marcus exclaimed, his eyes wide with a touch of schadenfreude, "Do you believe what she said?"

"It has a certain degree of credibility," Luke said thoughtfully.

Previously, he had wondered about something: Brooke, as the attending physician, could have easily tampered with the diagnostic report to conceal Lorne's injuries if he had wanted to, and the police wouldn't be able to detect any issues now if he had done that.

But he hadn't.

That indicated he hadn't intended to hide anything when making the diagnosis.

After the diagnosis, he probably wanted to call the police but was stopped.

That's why this contradictory situation had arisen.
