The following morning.

In front of the Hilton Hotel.

Luke stepped out of the car, observing the surroundings, "Are you sure she's here?"

Since the beginning of the investigation into Lorne's will case, the police had never seen Lorne's younger daughter Emma, and she hadn't answered her phone. To gather more information, they had no choice but to make a personal inquiry.

David nodded, "Yes, it's information from Marcus's informant."

Luke didn't ask further and entered the hotel directly; Marcus's informant was much more reliable than Marcus himself.

Luke approached the hotel reception and showed his badge to the young woman at the desk, "We're looking for Emma Bull."

"Please wait a moment." The receptionist operated the computer and picked up the phone to make a call.

After a while, she put down the phone, "Sorry, there's no answer from Emma Bull's room."

Luke pressed, "Which room is she staying in?"

"Sorry, the hotel has a policy; we can't divulge guest information randomly."

"We called Emma's cell before coming to the hotel, but nobody responded. Now, nobody is answering her room phone either. Can your hotel take the responsibility if something has happened to her?"

The receptionist counterasked, "Could she be in danger?"

"We are investigating a serious case; no further information can be disclosed."

The receptionist made another call, seemingly seeking instructions from a supervisor. After hanging up, she said, "Emma is in room 704."

"Thank you." Luke left the message and joined David in the elevator.

After exiting the elevator, the two found room 704 and knocked, "Thump, thump..."

No response.

"Thump, thump..." Another round of knocking, still no response.

David wondered, "With all this noise and no one opening the door, could she have gone out?"

Luke wasn't sure. Without a search warrant, the hotel wouldn't help open the door and wouldn't provide surveillance footage.

A black cleaning lady pushed her cart out of the elevator.

Luke called out, "Hi, are you about to clean?"

"Yes, sir, is there something you need?"

Luke showed his badge, "I'd like to ask for your assistance."

"What?"

"I hope you can clean room 704 first."

The cleaning lady frowned with concern, "Why?"

"We're investigating a criminal case, and the young lady in the room is a witness related to the case. We can't get in touch with her right now, and we'd like you to verify whether she's in her hotel room."

"Is there any danger?"

"No, there won't be any danger."

The cleaning lady positioned her cart at the door and used her key card to unlock the door, "Click!"

She slowly pushed the door open, cautiously entering.

However, no more than two meters in, the cleaning lady jumped back in shock and hurriedly ran out, "Oh my god, there's a woman lying on the bed with blood all over."

"Fuck!" David drew his gun and gestured to Luke as they entered the hotel room, one after the other.

Immediately upon entering, the bathroom was on the right. Luke swiftly cleared it, "Clear."

David checked the wardrobe, "Clear."

Then, they both entered the room. The items were a bit messy, a woman in underwear lay on the bed, and there were dark red stains on the blanket and floor.

Luke went to the bedside and checked the girl's pulse and breathing, "Breathing's normal, no life-threatening danger."

David knelt to touch the red stain and smelled it, "This isn't blood, it looks like red wine."

Luke scanned the surroundings and found a wine bottle at the foot of the bed, "False alarm, to get this drunk, she must have had a lot to drink."

Near the balcony was a small round table with some white powder left on the black tabletop. David rubbed some with his finger and smelt it, "She's been using drugs."

Luke commented, "If I remember correctly, she should only be eighteen this year."

"Scum doesn't come with an age limit," David replied as he grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the TV cabinet, unscrewed it, and splashed it onto Emma's head.

"Oh, what happened? Is it raining?" Emma shrieked, turned to find a comfortable position, and seeing Luke and David nearby,

"Ah! Who are you, and why are you here?"

Luke flashed his police badge, "LAPD, I'm Detective Luke, and this is Chief David."

"Why are you in my room? Who gave you the right?" Emma wiped her face, "And splashing me with water? I'll sue you."

"Hotel cleaning staff came in to clean and saw the red stains on the bed and floor, thinking you were injured. We're here to protect you."

Emma looked at the dark red substance and sneered, "Come on, that's not blood. It's red wine.

You've disturbed my rest; now please get out. Otherwise, I'll still sue you."

David glared at Emma and accused, "Your father is lying in a hospital bed, yet you're here doing drugs and drinking. You really are a good daughter."

Emma was unappreciative, "Don't teach me how to behave. Who told you I'm not worried about Lorne? I'm just drinking to drown my sorrows."

Luke said, "Miss Emma, we're here to talk to you about your father's affairs today."

"I don't think there's anything to talk about. You should be talking to Caroline or Brooke, Sofia."

"Your father's written will is different from the video will. We'd like to ask for your assistance in identifying if the handwriting is truly his", Luke handed her a copy of the written will.

Emma's face turned ugly after she took it and read it, exclaiming, "Where did you get this will? My father loved me the most. Why do I get less inheritance than Sofia?

The will is definitely fake. My father couldn't have done this."

Luke answered her indirectly, "Did you look carefully? Is it Lorne's handwriting?"

"It looks a bit like it, but my father would never give all the inheritance to Sofia. Why should she get more than Caroline or me? That's impossible. I'm the daughter he cherished the most. I don't believe it." Emma got angrier as she spoke and ripped the will in her hands to shreds.

"Miss Emma, if you doubt the will, then you should bring forth evidence to prove it, or else after your father's death, the inheritance will be distributed according to this will."

"Damn it!" Emma ruffled her hair, looking even more disheveled, "It must have been Sofia, she must have switched the real will."

"Do you have evidence?"

"No, shouldn't it be the police's job to find evidence?"

"The police's duty is to investigate cases. The will is a private family matter. If you think the will is fake, then you should actively provide clues to the police, understand?"

Emma thought for a moment, "Sofia and Brooke, those two are suspicious. They are so disgusting, they've already gotten together. It must have been them who switched my father's will, it has to be."

"Buzz, buzz..."

A vibrating sound of a cell phone rang out. Emma took out her phone, pressed the answer button and cursed, "Brooke, you asshole, did you and Sofia switch the will..."

"I don't believe your lies; I'm not going to the hospital..."

After a few words, Emma hung up the phone angrily, "Fuck, all liars!"

Last night, Brooke was taken away by a lawyer. Luke asked, "What did he say?"

"He said Caroline is hurt and now she's at the hospital."

"How did Caroline get injured?"

"I don't know."

"Which hospital?"

"Saint John Hospital."

Luke handed Emma a business card, "Call me if you think of any new clues."

Luke and David stood up and left the room.

Emma shouted, "Where are you going?"

"To the hospital."

"I'm coming with you."

David glanced at her, "How rare, showing concern for your own mother."

Emma flipped him off, "Fuck!"

Then, the three of them drove to Saint John Hospital.

As they approached the door to the ward, they heard Caroline's cries, "Ah... don't kill me.

I didn't see anything, I don't know anything.

Don't chase me, please, spare me, please..."

Pushing open the door, Caroline was huddled in a corner with her knees to her chest, dirty and snot and tears smeared all over her face.

A far cry from the elegant lady of the day before.

Luke looked at Brooke who was beside, "What happened to her?"

Brooke shook his head, "I don't know, she was already somewhat incoherent when I found her, constantly shouting not to kill her.

She seems terrified!"
