Youen Street, 57.

A black Dodge car was parked by the roadside.

Seated in the passenger seat, Luke looked towards a grey wooden house not far away and said to Marcus and Jenny, "According to the information Harry got, Lindsay is staying at her friend Logan Salmo's house.

Considering the situation at Olmey Hospital, it's very likely that Lindsay has accomplices, and Logan Salmo is also a suspect.

Be careful when we move in."

Marcus chuckled, "If it weren't for Harry, we would have had a hard time finding Lindsay. Do I get indirect credit for this?"

Luke didn't bother with him and continued to assign tasks, "Jenny and I will take the front door.

Marcus, you're with the patrol officers watching the back, any problem?"

Marcus curled his lip, "No, Detective Chief Luke."

A few minutes later, support from the patrol officers arrived.

Luke and his team entered Logan's yard and split up to take action.

Luke didn't have a good impression of Logan, not only did the guy try to steal a police car, but he also cuckolded his own partner.

Absolutely worthless.

Once everyone was ready, Jenny approached the door, "Knock knock..."

There was no response.

"Knock knock..." Jenny knocked on the door again, more forcefully this time.

Still no response.

Jenny called out, "Sir, I'm from Immigration, someone reported you've been harboring illegal immigrants recently, please open up."

After a while, footsteps were heard and the door opened.

A haggard-looking Caucasian woman stood in the doorway, "You've got it wrong, I'm an American citizen, not an illegal immigrant..."

Before the woman could finish, she caught a glimpse of Luke out of the corner of her eye and froze on the spot, retreating two steps and demanding, "What are you doing here?"

"Lindsay, I need to talk to you."

"Did David send you? I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to have anything to do with him right now, please leave," Lindsay said, and then she casually closed the door.

Luke held the door with his hand, "Where is Lorne?"

"Who's Lorne, I don't know what you're talking about."

"I saw you in the hospital's surveillance footage, nurse uniform, wheelchair, need I say more?" Luke didn't go ahead and arrest her; he still lacked sufficient evidence to prove that the nurse was Lindsay.

Stammering, Lindsay said, "I... don't know what you're talking about."

Luke pressed on, "You were wearing a mask at the time, I might not recognize you, do you think David won't recognize you? The police are on to you, there's no escape."

Lindsay tentatively asked, "Aren't you guys from the Robbery and Murder Department? Why are you involved in this kind of thing?"

Seeing that she was beginning to relent, Luke struck while the iron was hot, "Lorne is involved in a serious case, I hope you take this seriously, this is no small matter.

Besides, kidnapping is a felony in itself, let alone the fact that Lorne is sick. If he dies, it's first-degree murder."

"What?" Lindsay thought she had misheard, her expression exaggerated, "I was only helping out, taking him out of the hospital. Strictly speaking, it doesn't even qualify as a crime."

Luke countered, "Are you admitting that you abducted Lorne last night?"

"I'll say it again, I didn't kidnap anyone. I just helped him out of the hospital. When we parted, he even thanked me."

Luke confirmed, "Lorne was lucid then?"

"Of course, he got on the wheelchair by himself, although moving around was still difficult for him. I've never gone against his will, and it was definitely not kidnapping."

"Where is Lorne now?"

"I don't know. After leaving Olmey Hospital, he got off in a secluded area, and we haven't seen each other since."

"Who instructed you to do this?"

"Uh..." Lindsay glanced backward nervously, hesitating.

"Stop! LAPD!"

Then Marcus's voice was heard, "Someone's jumping out of the east side window."

"Keep an eye on her," Luke said, and took off with his gun in pursuit.

He went around to the east side of the house and saw a Caucasian man vaulting over the fence, fleeing into the distance, likely Logan.

Marcus, with a patrol officer, chased after him; there should still be another patrol officer watching the back door.

Luke followed suit in the chase.

"Stop! You can't get away," Marcus shouted while running.

"Bang!" What answered him was a gunshot.

"Fuck!" Luke cursed instinctively, seeking cover and hiding behind a metal trash can.

Immediately, he remembered his Bullet-Proof Card, as if he had gained an extra layer of protection.

Luke's courage surged, and he peered around with a tilted head.

He saw Logan making another run for it.

"Marcus, cover me." Luke took a deep breath and chased after him.

Logan seemed to realize someone was behind him, turned around, and fired, "Bang!"

"Bang!"

Logan fired two shots in succession as if to warn his pursuer.

Luke had been waiting for just this moment; as long as Logan dared fire, he'd empty his magazine.

"Bang, bang..."

Luke opened fire in a frenzy at Logan.

Marcus and the patrol officer caught up and also fired in Logan's direction.

"Bang..."

The sound of gunfire reverberated all around, causing a ringing in everyone's ears.

"Ah!"

A scream rang out as Logan's right arm was hit, and the handgun fell to the ground.

The three of them rushed up and apprehended Logan.

Having just sprayed bullets wildly, none of the three knew for sure who had wounded him.

Marcus handcuffed Logan while the patrol officer dialed 911 for an ambulance.

Luke sighed with relief, his palms sweaty. This had been his first gunfight since arriving in this world.

Back in his home country as a detective, Luke had fired a gun before, but there were regulations and restraint back then.

To unload an entire clip of bullets like he had done today was indeed a first for him.

Exhilarating.

"Ah..." Logan continued to cry out in pain.

While Marcus kept watch, Luke went to meet up with Jenny.

Upon hearing the gunfire, more patrol officers came to provide support.

Jenny had also been keeping an eye on Lindsay.

"Jenny, take some people and search the house." Luke said, pulling out a pair of handcuffs from his belt and cuffing Lindsay.

Lindsay protested, "I've told you all I know, why are you still treating me like this?"

Luke questioned, "Did you hear gunshots?"

"Yeah."

"What's your relationship with Logan?"

"Friends."

"Was he involved in the kidnapping of Lorne?"

"Like I said, it wasn't a kidnapping. It was just helping to get him out of the hospital."

"Answer my question, was Logan involved?"

"Yeah."

Luke retorted, "If it's really as you say, not a kidnapping, then your charges aren't that serious, and you might not even have to go to jail.

But Logan shot at police—that's a felony.

Can you explain that?"

Lindsay's mouth hung open for a long while before she managed to say, "I don't know."

"I'll ask you again, who directed you to take Lorne away?"

"I really don't know. It was Logan who made contact, I was just helping."

"Was Logan at the hospital that night too?"

"Yes."

"What did he do?"

"He fired blanks, leading the patrol officer away. I was responsible for wheeling Lorne out of the hospital, that's it. We didn't commit any crime."

"Well, Logan wasn't firing blanks this time. He is definitely going to jail. Do you want to join him, or would you rather assist the police investigation to earn a lighter sentence? Think about it." Luke pushed Lindsay into the police car.

Jenny holstered her gun and came over, "I led the search of the house, no sign of Lorne was found."

Luke sighed, "Not a moment's peace."
