Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 834 - 392: New Discovery
Jovon Illustrated Community.
207 is a white house, with a photograph of a white man in police uniform displayed in the living room; it's the memorial photo of the murdered officer Jens Hauley.
The deputy team investigated Jens Hauley's family situation; he grew up in a single-parent household and wasn't yet married, now living with his fiancée.
Jens Hauley's fiancée is named Dasha Elman, and with her permission, the deputy team brought officers to search their home.
Initially, when the police investigated the murder of Jens Hauley, they thought it was an unfortunate incident during duty, but as the investigation deepened, it seemed more complex than imagined, thus broadening the scope.
The deputy team is seasoned in handling cases and fully capable of managing alone, which gave Luke the confidence to take over two cases.
At that moment, a thirty-year-old white woman sat on the sofa, her eyes red, and her expression looked somewhat haggard.
The deputy team sighed softly, "Ms. Elman, I'm truly sorry for Jens Hauley's passing, please accept my condolences."
Dasha Elman's voice was hoarse, her eyes blurred with tears, "I... still dare not believe it, that he has truly gone.
I always thought this was a dream, hoping to wake up and find him by my side…"
"I understand that feeling, ten years ago, my wife also left.
It took me a long time to accept that reality.
Every year, I visit her, bringing a bouquet of her favorite roses.
If you want to talk, you can contact me anytime."
"Thank you." Dasha Elman wiped her tears, "Have you found the murderer who killed Jens?"
"I'm sorry, not yet.
I came today to see if there might be any clues related to the case among his belongings."
Dasha Elman pointed towards the bedroom on the right, "His things are all in that room."
The deputy team nodded and led an officer into the bedroom for a search.
The officer was a patrol cop from the Southern District, having a good relationship with the deceased Jens Hauley, and also knowing the victim's girlfriend Dasha Elman, making communication easier and building mutual trust.
The deputy team entered the bedroom, donning gloves and began to search the room.
The furniture in the room wasn't much, there was a bed, a wardrobe, and a dressing table, with some odds and ends piled underneath.
The deputy team first searched the bed, examining the pillow, sheets, mattress, and beneath the bed closely; then checked the deceased's wardrobe, as a patrol cop normally wore a uniform, the clothing was limited yet neatly ironed.
No valuable clues were observed in the wardrobe.
The deputy team began searching the dressing table and the miscellaneous items beneath it, the table had no cosmetics, only sunscreen, Vitamin C, a breath freshener, and a cup, as they pulled open the drawer beneath the dressing table containing some items.
Nail clippers, a charger, ear picks, unused toothbrushes, mostly some miscellaneous stuff.
Among them, there was a small blue metal box roughly palm-sized, opened to reveal several cards, including bank cards, restaurant VIP cards, and some documents, along with a key inside.
The deputy team picked up the key for examination, recalling the house's door locks, and judging by experience, this key didn't seem to fit the house door locks.
And the metal box contained relatively important items, suggesting this key likely held certain significance too.
The deputy team scanned around the house but didn't find anything like a safe; searching further among the junk under the dressing table, they found a box of red wine, half a bag of toilet paper, and an unused pan, similarly missing locked items.
The deputy team swept through the room again but still didn't discover where the key could be used.
Putting the key into a transparent plastic bag, the deputy team exited the bedroom and addressed Dasha Elman on the sofa, "Ms. Elman, if you're willing, I'd like to talk."
Dasha Elman took a deep breath, nodding.
The deputy team sat on the other side of the sofa, asking, "How long have you and Jens Hauley been together?"
"Over a year, we met at the beach last summer.
Back then, I didn't know he was a police officer; he was funny and amusing, and even invited me for a drink at a bar.
I declined.
Later, I was speeding once and was pulled over by a police car.
I thought the officer seemed familiar when I saw him, it was him.
Such a strange fate…
Afterwards, we started contacting each other.
He pursued me, two months later we got together."
"How long have you been living together?"
"Half a year, and three months ago, we got engaged.
We originally planned to marry in summer 2023, but who knew he would suddenly be gone." Dasha Elman wiped her tears, "I can't understand why it happened, why he was killed?
Why hasn't the murderer been caught yet?"
The deputy team said, "We've been working hard on the investigation, and there's been some progress.
Though we haven't caught the murderer yet, we have identified some persons involved in the case."
With that, the deputy team took out several photos for Dasha Elman's identification, "Do you know any of the people in these photos?"
The deputy team presented a total of 6 photos, including both men and women, among them were the witnesses in the car stopped by Jens Hauley the night he was murdered.
Dasha Elman scrutinized the photos, shaking her head, "I don't recognize them."
