Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 866 - 405: The Uncertainty of Life_2
The doctor took an 'electric shock device' in each hand and pressed them to the old man's chest.
"Bang!"
"Again."
"Bang!"
...
After several consecutive shocks, everyone held their breath.
The nurse shouted, "Mr. Stone's heartbeat has returned!"
"Thank God!
Thank you for not taking him away." Mrs. Stone walked to the bedside, holding the old man's right hand tightly.
Luke felt it inappropriate to stay and cause any disturbance, so he left the villa with Jackson.
Jackson sighed, "I originally thought he was faking illness, too guilty to face us, didn't expect..."
Luke also did not expect Albus Stone's condition to be so critical.
On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was somewhat oppressive.
Luke didn't gain much from his investigation, so he wanted to ask the deputy team if they had any discoveries.
Luke called to inquire, but it seemed the deputy team was still busy and didn't answer.
Luke hung up the phone, forget it, better head back to the station for now.
The car stopped at the traffic light, and suddenly, a black Mercedes flashed by at high speed.
Then, several cars followed, their bodies without police markings but with flashing lights and sirens blaring.
Jackson raised an eyebrow, "Whoa, it's lively."
Luke felt the vehicles in pursuit didn't seem like police, "Follow them."
"Yes, sir." Jackson signaled right and turned right from the straight lane, ignoring the red light.
Jackson drove quickly, catching up with the flashing and siren-blaring cars ahead.
Luke took out the laptop from the car and searched the license plate information through the police system.
...
In a Ford SUV ahead, Anthony, sitting in the passenger seat, was fastening a bulletproof vest, cursing, "Fuck, that bastard found us!
What the hell are you idiots doing?
I wish I could kick you back to training camp to work with those rookies." While cursing, Anthony ordered through the walkie-talkie, "Contact nearby patrols, have them try to intercept ahead."
While talking, the Mercedes in front suddenly jerked the steering wheel, made a left turn drifting, knocking down a fence and rushing into the opposite lane.
"Fuck!
Turn around!
Be careful." Anthony complained, the tire breaker was of no use anymore.
Several cars with flashing lights also turned around.
Seeing the cars in front suddenly turning, Jackson exclaimed, "Pretty bold!"
Luke gripped the handle on the right side, "The FBI are in front chasing them, no rush."
The FBI are also investigating the art theft case, with such a commotion, they might be pursuing suspects from the case.
Luke followed, wanting to see who they were capturing without intending to take credit, so there was no need to dangerously speed chase, just steadily follow from behind.
The Mercedes drove fast, weaving through traffic, already scraping several cars.
Soon after, the Mercedes made a sharp right turn, entering a narrow alley, only wide enough for one car.
The Mercedes led the way, with several FBI cars also turning into the alley.
The FBI's pursuit was swift, the distance between them closing.
Suddenly, the Mercedes abruptly stopped.
With a "bang!", the Mercedes' rear crashed into the front of the FBI car.
The trailing cars also experienced various collisions.
The Mercedes accelerated again, quickly driving away.
However, the front of the first FBI car was severely damaged, deformed, and smoking, unable to start.
Though the trailing cars weren't badly hit and could still run, they were blocked by the first FBI car, unable to pursue the Mercedes.
"Fuck!"
A flurry of curses followed.
On the walkie-talkie, Anthony cursed as well, "I've had enough of you idiots, @#¥%..."
The FBI cars could only reverse back to the alley entrance, though at a decent speed, they missed the chance to capture.
Originally, Luke and Jackson were at the back but now found themselves leading.
Luke was also a bit confused, unaware where the alley led.
Jackson, however, was excited, "Captain, I know the way, I used to patrol near here." As he spoke, he signaled and drove into the right lane.
Being the lead car now, to avoid congestion ahead, Luke also turned on the police lights and sirens.
The FBI cars backed out of the alley, initially confused on which way to chase, heard the sirens and followed along.
Knowing the area well, Jackson drove rapidly past another intersection, soon catching sight of the black Mercedes.
Jackson accelerated, directly ramming into it.
"Bang!"
The Mercedes didn't expect to be blocked, caught off guard, it skidded out of the lane, crashing into the right barrier.
Then, the Mercedes' driver's side door opened, a white man crawling out, turning to flee.
George, the suspect in the art theft case.
Luke instantly recognized him.
Quite a big catch indeed.
Luke and Jackson also got out of the police car.
"LAPD! Don't move!"
The white man didn't dare look back, running even faster.
Luke and Jackson quickly gave chase.
At this point, it was about physical strength and endurance, both Luke and Jackson were in good shape, closely tailing the fleeing white man.
However, George ran fast as well, possibly driven by desperation, spurred his physical potential.
As he ran in front, with Luke and Jackson pursuing, and a group of FBI far behind, they formed three distinct echelons.
Seeing George not slowing down, Luke knew he was desperate.
But Luke had no intention to risk his life; his was far more valuable, and failing to capture him was the FBI's responsibility. Luke wouldn't lose much by not catching him, so why risk it?
With that in mind, Luke stopped, drawing his gun.
"Bang, bang!"
George heard the shots, his legs went weak, collapsing on the ground, hitting it hard.
Jackson lunged, pinning him down, restraining his hands, "LAPD, don't move!"
George's left cheek was pressed to the ground, his right showed a panicked expression, muttering, "Don't shoot, I don't have a weapon!
Please, don't shoot."
Jackson cuffed George, searching him.
At that moment, the FBI team caught up, Anthony breathlessly spoke, "What are you doing here?"
Luke smiled, "Good thing I was here, otherwise this guy would have escaped right under your nose."
Anthony looked annoyed, glaring fiercely at George.
Luke praised, "You guys did well, finding George so quickly."
Anthony's face darkened, they did find George first but Luke caught him instead.
However, having lost him initially, they couldn't fault Luke for taking the credit.
Damn, it was those fools who lost him!
@#¥%...
Anthony cursed his subordinates furiously in his mind.
Luke found it a bit amusing, he really hadn't intended to steal the credit, just that things turned out unexpectedly.
