Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 869 - 407: Perseverance (Additional Update)
Seven o'clock in the evening.
The guests at Meilket Bar began to increase in number.
A tall and thin white man walked into the bar, with a distinctive hooked nose, dressed in a black suit, dragging a suitcase behind him.
"Hey, guys, long time no see." The white man waved in greeting.
A black man laughed and said, "Yo, isn't this the great magician David Marco, long time no see."
"Yeah, I'll be performing magic tonight."
"Is it the card trick from last time?"
"No, this time it's a new magic trick that will be unforgettable for a lifetime, just wait and see."
The black man joked, "Can you make a wife appear for me?"
"Hahaha..." Everyone around laughed.
David Marco shook his head and said to the bar, "Tommy, how have you been lately?"
"Same old, same old.
The boss is in the back."
"I know, I'll head over there now." David Marco said, snapping his fingers, "Guys, this round is on me, enjoy."
"Thanks."
"You stingy guy finally decided to be generous for once."
"Hey man, did you hit it big? If I remember correctly, this should be your first time treating."
"I'll enjoy this thoroughly, truly unforgettable, haha."
"Here's to David."
Several regulars raised their glasses, cheering.
"A bunch of ungrateful bastards." David Marco shook his head and walked into the bar's back area.
David Marco looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar backstage, paused for a moment, then walked down the corridor and opened the door to the lounge.
Upon opening the door, David Marco was momentarily stunned, looking at two unfamiliar men, "Who are you? I've never seen you before."
Luke showed his badge, "Robbery and Murder Department."
Anthony smirked, "FBI."
David Marco swallowed, and the suitcase he was dragging fell to the ground.
"Creak..."
The lounge door opened, and Jackson and a Mexican agent came in to search David Marco, cuffing his hands.
Seeing the Mexican agent about to search his suitcase, David Marco shouted, "Hey, take it easy, don't break my props."
Jackson sat him down on a chair, "Sit tight and don't try any tricks."
David Marco looked at his suitcase, "How did you find me?"
Anthony snapped his fingers, "Hey, look at me.
Have you not figured out your situation yet? This worthless suitcase can't change the fate of your later years.
Nor decide which prison you'll end up picking up soap.
However, I can."
David Marco repeated his question, "How did you find me?"
"The professor told us you'd be here."
David Marco laughed, "Lies, you couldn't have caught the professor.
Even I don't know his identity, how could you have caught him?"
"I truly feel sorry for you." Anthony showed a disdainful expression, "Is it worth it to work for someone whose identity you don't even know?"
"I'm not working for him, I'm doing it for myself."
"Aren't you a magician? Why steal paintings?"
"I have four performances this month, last month I only had six, and I have to prepare costumes and props. This money just isn't enough to support myself. I need to take on side jobs so I can live and continue pursuing my magician dreams."
Anthony laughed, "Your so-called side jobs are theft and robbery?"
David Marco moved his slender fingers, "My hands are very nimble, good at picking locks."
Anthony lit a cigarette and took a puff, "What's your relationship with the bar owner?"
"An employer relationship. I occasionally perform here."
"Why did you list this bar's address on the magician registration site?"
"To become a magician, you need to pass an assessment. They also call for inquiries, so writing the registered address as the performance location can increase the chance of passing."
Although Luke had interrogated George, he didn't fully believe his words. In this type of gang operation, many suspects would downplay and evade responsibilities.
"How many people were involved in the Getty Museum painting robbery?"
David Marco lowered his head and remained silent.
Anthony leaned in and whispered into his ear, "If you don't come clean, I'll have someone break your fingers, and you can forget about performing magic ever again."
David Marco glared at the other, his face very grim, "Five people."
Luke pretended not to see and continued questioning, "Who were they?"
"The professor, George, Mamba, me, and an inside man working security at the museum."
"What is the inside man's name?"
"I don't know."
"Who was the mastermind behind the robbery?"
"The professor."
"How much money did you get?"
"Five hundred thousand US Dollars."
"Who planted the bomb at your hideout?"
David Marco shook his head, "What bomb, I don't know."
Luke couldn't discern any signs of lying, continued asking, "Who killed Officer Jens Hauley?"
David Marco hesitated for a moment, "It was Mamba."
David Marco's description was broadly consistent with George's, but Luke wanted to know more from him, "How did Mamba kill Officer Jens Hauley?"
"As far as I know, it was with a gun."
"Where did she get the gun she used to kill?"
