Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 95 - 95 Two Shots (8/10 asking for first order!)
Subway station police office.
Luke and David were interrogating a homeless man.
The homeless man was a Mexican man in his thirties, with no identification found on him.
Luke pulled off the baseball cap from his head, "What's your name?"
The homeless man glanced at Luke and then lowered his head.
Now that the police had caught him, they could definitely find out his identity, but it would take some time.
And time was exactly what the police were short of. If the homeless man didn't return for a long time or didn't contact his accomplices, the others might become alert.
The best solution was to have the homeless man assist the police in capturing the remaining suspects.
Luke knocked on the table, "I'm asking you, what's your name?"
"I want to see a lawyer."
Luke handed him a mobile phone, "You can call a lawyer."
You're not saying, but the lawyer definitely knows your identity, right?
The homeless man said, "I don't have a lawyer, you appoint one for me."
"No problem." Luke smiled and had Marcus go out to make contact.
"Appointing a lawyer will take some time, why don't we have a chat in the meantime?"
The homeless man snorted, "I know the law, I won't say anything before the lawyer arrives."
"It's fine if you don't want to talk, you listen, I'll talk."
Luke sat on the table, leaning over to look at him, "What's your grudge against Layli Harry, and why did you kill her?"
The homeless man didn't answer.
Luke continued, "You're quite vicious; not only Layli Harry and her driver, but you also killed two other people. What deep hatred justifies such bloodshed?
Besides, with charges like these, it doesn't really matter if you talk or not. You'll probably go straight to the electric chair after trial. If you want anything to eat or drink, just say so, since eating one less meal won't make a difference to you.
I'll just think of it as charity."
The homeless man's complexion grew uglier, and he finally spoke up, "I didn't kill anyone."
"We are investigating a murder case, who would believe you didn't kill anyone?"
"I swear to God! I really didn't kill anyone."
"If you didn't kill anyone, why keep resisting? If you continue resisting, the only outcome for you is the electric chair."
"I really didn't kill anyone… I was just helping retrieve money for someone."
"If you tell everything you know, I can turn you into a cooperating witness, reduce or even suspend your sentence, how about that?"
The homeless man showed a conflicted expression, "No, I can't do that."
"Your refusal to talk indicates guilt, you are definitely involved in the murder conspiracy against Layli Harry," Luke said, half-truthfully.
"No, I didn't," the homeless man grew desperate.
"Ring, ring, ring…" Luke's phone rang.
Luke stepped aside to answer the call, which was from Susan; they spoke briefly.
When Luke returned, a relaxed expression adorned his face, "OK, we caught your accomplice, and he confessed to using a video for ransom extortion, and he is willing to help the police capture the rest of the suspects. He also has identified you as the mastermind of the case.
Good, that is why you are not confessing, right?"
The homeless man hurriedly defended himself, "No, I'm not the mastermind; I'm just the guy who picked up the money."
"You refuse to cooperate with the police and won't say anything. We can only accept his statement. You extorted so much money and dared to assault an officer. You are going to serve many years in there.
By the time you get out, your kid will probably be calling someone else daddy."
"Wait, I'll talk, I'm willing to cooperate," the homeless man, clearly unable to sit still, took a deep breath, "Firstly, I really didn't kill anyone, nor am I the mastermind behind the ransom case; I was just helping someone with the money."
"How much money? Who asked you to take it?"
"Four hundred thousand US Dollars, and honestly, it was the first time I'd ever seen so much money."
"Don't dodge the important questions. Who asked you to get the money?"
"Martin Tracy."
"What's your name?"
"Mario Karl."
"What's this ransom for?"
"We found a video of Layli Harry playing poker with her driver, knowing her brother was wealthy, so we used it to threaten him."
"How did you get the video?"
"I'm not sure, it was my boss who got it, Martin Tracy."
"How many people are in your group? Where are you hiding?"
"There are four of us; one accomplice was supporting me in the square, and the other two are hidden in Martin's car repair shop."
"Do they know you've been caught?"
"They probably don't know; when planning, we also considered that the other party might call the police.
So, after getting the money, I wouldn't return directly to the repair shop, but I'd drive around the city to shake off any police that might be following us, checking for safety before returning to the repair shop."
Luke glanced at the time; it had been twenty minutes since the arrest, which wasn't too long yet.
The person responsible for oversight on the square would inform their accomplices to flee as soon as the police arrested the homeless Mario in the square.
...
207 Visat Street.
Martin's Auto Repair Shop.
The location of the auto repair shop was secluded, and the surrounding area was quite desolate, occasionally a car would pass by, and one could hear a dog or two barking.
Not far from the auto repair shop was an abandoned warehouse that had become the police's temporary command center.
Susan was in charge of this arrest operation.
Team members involved in the arrest included Luke, David, Raymond, Marcus, Jenny, and six local patrol officers.
With information provided by homeless Mario, Susan roughly understood the layout of the auto repair shop.
The auto repair shop was very large, and instead of an auto repair shop, it looked more like a car scrap yard, filled with many discarded cars, which brought certain difficulties to the arrest operation.
Susan drew a rough map, "According to Mario, there's a house in the middle of the auto repair shop, and it's very likely that three suspects are hiding in there.
Additionally, there are two vicious dogs in the yard, making it hard to sneak in quietly; we'll have to launch a direct attack.
"Do you folks have any ideas?"
David pointed to the map, "Now that we know the positions of the suspects, we should attack from both the front and back doors, closing in on them from both sides."
Raymond, with a serious expression, "Attacking from both sides could likely lead to friendly fire, I think it's more suitable to attack from one side."
Susan thought for a moment and made the final decision on the plan, "We'll split into three action teams, moving from the front to the back door.
David will lead the first team, entering the auto repair shop from the east side of the main gate; Luke will take the second team, entering from the west side of the main gate;
The two teams will move from the front to the back enveloping the area, which allows mutual cover and avoids friendly fire.
Raymond, you take people to guard the back door to prevent any suspects from escaping from the back.
Any questions?"
"No."
"Prepare to move."
Afterward, team members began to prepare their equipment.
Luke put on a bulletproof vest, checked his service pistol, carried a few extra magazines, and brought along a stun grenade.
David took an M4A1 carbine out of the car and handed it to Luke beside him, "Want to try this?"
Luke thought about it but declined.
Although the rifle had advantages, Luke had never used it before, and using an unfamiliar weapon in battle was a major taboo.
Furthermore, he also had two "Accuracy Cards" that could only be applied to pistols.
As for firearms, Luke still had much to learn and improve on; he would practice seriously when he had the time.
Once the police were ready, they began their operation.
Luke, Black, and Jenny, as a group of three, entered the auto repair shop from the western side of the main gate.
David led three patrol officers from the eastern side of the main gate into the auto repair shop.
Raymond and the other patrol officers stood outside the auto repair shop to prevent any suspects from escaping.
Luke had just climbed the wall when "woof woof..."
a burst of barking erupted.
Jumping down from the wall, Luke hurriedly hid behind an abandoned old car.
Jenny and Marcus followed closely behind him.
"Duh..."
A burst of rifle fire roared past.
Black glanced and cursed, "fuck, these suspects are more alert than we expected."
Luke also looked toward the factory buildings.
"Duh..." Another round of fire rang out, bullets hitting the car body and the ground.
Sparks flew and dust rose.
Luke took a deep breath, to say he wasn't nervous in this situation would definitely be false.
From the east side came David's voice, "LAPD, you are surrounded by the police, surrender immediately."
"Duh..."
The response was another round of gunfire.
Taking advantage of the suspects attacking David's direction, Luke peeked out, the suspects were hiding behind the cars, their figures unseen.
He then lay on the ground, barely able to see a foot sticking out from under a car.
Without hesitation, he used the Accuracy Card and pulled the trigger.
"Bang!"
"Ah!" the suspect cried out in pain and fell.
"Bang!" Luke fired again, hitting the suspect directly in the throat.
Black by his side was already stunned.
